I think her recent change of image from all hyper and crazy to now more feminine and gentle is quite obvious. For example, take a look at the cover of LOVE COOK, can you still find the mischievous, kawaii image that you can easily find from her previous 2 albums? As her vocal and songs become gradually mature, her personality is pretty much undergoing the same change. Take a look at her recent video messages, and compare to those during her Sakuranbo period, which she's all yelling and jumping around, the maturing process is actually quite obvious. btw Rinoa, she's 23, 4 years younger than ayu. 
I'm not too sure about relating Ai to sexiness, I think it all depends on how you define sexy, as horizon180 has mentioned. According to wikipedia's definition, I think Ai is definitely not sexy.  To me, she's just a really cute angel and a perfect girlfriend, and the adjective "sexy" is just a little low for her if you ask me. If you wanna describe what kind of person Ai-chin is, "pure", "lovely", "kawaii", "extremely cute" etc. will fit her better.  |

i think ai-chan is rather sexy in the kuroge pv. she didnt or need not try to be sexy in the pv, but i still find her very sexy anyway. i guess it's the charm that she has  nonetheless, it's only 1 pv, luckily too. i dont think it would be good for her to change her image from 'kawaii' to sexy  its gonna be a hell of a shock for her fans |

i actually sat down and listened to Love Punch very conciously last night, and when I compare it to Love Jam, it is so obvious she has matured in Love Jam. Gone are the overly cute songs like GIRLY and ishikawa osaka..., she still has cute songs, but not as much and they dont sound as childish....
as for a new image, i really do not see her having a classy image... her high voice just doesn't suit it.... sure she can compose and sing ballads greatly, but i seriously do not want to see Ai become an artist that does exclusively ballads. I actually thought that she should give pop-rock a try >_> I mean, she has pop with guitars and drums on her albums, but they still have that cute factor in it... so maybe some pop-rock that is not cute...... >_>
Not only will Otsuka be unable to maintain her cute, sweet and innocent image, the Japanese public is bound to get tired of it some time soon. Her current style can only take you so far. Ask Britney Spears.

that's it i've got it.
following this discussion and an overwhelming rush of blood to my brain from the excessive fanboy infatuation of mine with otsuka ai, i went and stuck my tokyo friends dvd into the player again and did a 7 hour long marathon!!
new idea:
i think otsuka ai should continue doing her thing, exactly what she's doing now for another couple of years while she builds herself up as a serious actress. i mean c'mon, i know im slightly biased, but i thought that she was the best actress out of the four in tokyo friends. i could tell she'd be a great actress just by watching the kingyou hanabi shortfilm... not saying a word and yet saying so much. c'mon ai-chin, im going to cheer for you *like the millions of your fans* while you become japan's biggest actress eva!!

i suppose you're right. but i think my logical deduction is that her career path will probably take her into more serious ballad type songs with the peppier cuter ones here and there... kind of like a swap, her new albums will have more ballads and melodies compared to cutsies unlike lovepunch or lovejam...

all im trying to say is, love jam was a maturer album than love punch and by the sounds of it, love cook will be even more so. continue this trend and become the the best actress in japan... you've already got all the men in your spell, ruling the world won't be far behind
so if she becomes all emperess, and find out about this thread... i wonder if she'll make us all generals or something

horizon180.... you are going a bit too far at the end there.......
I would much rather see Otsuka doing music rather than acting... Her musical talent is just so extraordinary, I don't want it to go to waste. Judging from tokyo friends, yes, she is an all right actress, but I think that the girl hellbent on getting married was the best actress by far... her other two friends were just.... lost....
The chances of Otsuka being Japan's biggest actress is..... 0. I just don't see it happening... how can it? Sure, an odd drama/movie here or there would be great, but I think Otsuka should always have music as her main focus. |

totally agree with some of ya...hmn...well i think it differs with people thoughts...some people think shes really cute while some may think shes sexy. but i think she has BOTH...hehe...
btw dun worry horizon180, she casted a spell on all of us! and i think its a love spell...gosh i dun get bored looking at her all day |

Ai chan doesn't appeal thru sex~ that we all know...
but that doesn't mean she has no sex appeal~ ^^
and I feel that her subtle sex appeal is wat makes her so sexy and cute at the same time !
But apparently she said before that she doesn't prefer being an idol...
Which makes pple look at her face more than they are really looking at her works
and what she is truly good/aims to be good at is actually song writing~
She has said in Bokura no Ongaku that she wants to be recognised as a song lyricist or musician rather than just a cute faced pop idol...
So i doubt her really taking acting seriously... it's all part of avex's plot to capitalise on her popularity ~ haha
But I seriously think Ai chan won't give up making jumpy tunes... it's just part of her lively character... However I do really hope for more ballads to come...
As she has shown increased maturity in her lyrics writing for ballads with every single... they are getting alot better and more poetic!

| When I first saw Kuroge PV, I was rather shocked to see Ai in a sexy way. Before that, I was used to her cutesy image in Sakuranbo & Happy Days, or her serious but beautiful image in Kingyo Hanabi & Daisuki Dayo. She does carry the alluring sexy image well but not too overboard that cheapens herself. The way she plays with her skirt during her Jam Punch Tour concert is also quite sexy. Her sexiness is rather subtle and is conveyed through facial expressions, elaborate costumes and hand signals, rather than the conventional show of flesh. As for the age issue, I guess she should bank on the Planetarium image, matured and sophisticated kind of beauty. Some cute songs are a must! That's what made Ai popular. A good mix of the old and new would bring her far. When the fans are really to accept her new image of maturity, she can then slowly shred the old and fit in her totally new image. That'll probably take a good 1 or 2 more years. Love Cook is a good start to promote her new image. |

Well i think she is more cute than sexy. But in the kurogen PV, she really shows this side of her, and its not bad! Unlike all the others who are more "dirty," i think its like comparing "slutty," to "seductive" kind of thing.
Koda Kumi is like Christina Agrilera in her pv "dirty." Not really a good thing. But she isnt always like that, there are tonnes where is like Ai-chan
