Ai will attend the 56th Kouhaku which we all know is a big big big music event with the most successful artists of the year.
I'm not quite sure when it will take place, I'm sorry, but as soon as I find it out, I'll tell you right away Confused
Well, another thing that's worth mentoring is that she will sing SMILY Smile

You can view the full list here:

Male: here

Edit:
Oh I forgot to add a few other artists that might be interresting (so you don't have to look through everything on the sites):

Ayumi Hamasaki - HEAVEN
Namie Amuro - White Light
Every Little Thing - きみの て
Kumi Koda - Butterfly
Hitomi Shimatani - Garnet Moon
Ken Hirai - POP STAR
EXILE - EXIT
Gackt - 届カナイ愛ト知ッテイタノニ抑エキレズニ愛シ続ケタ・・・

I'm not quite sure but I don't think it's new years eve because a few artists of the ones I mentioned above (Ayu and ELT) always do the Countdown Live concerts which begin at like 11pm and end on 1 to 1Meow0 am.
But it must be at the very end of the year.

Kouhaku always take place on 31 December, ever since 1953. I added a Kouhaku wikipedia link to your first post, click on that and have a look. I know some artist do have countdown concert, but Kouhaku will still take place on 31 December, I'm thinking those artist probably perform early and then rush to their countdown stage after that.

I'm dissapointed because Ai will be singing SMILY, I really wanted her to sing Planetarium, or Neko ni Fuusen. Well, maybe most of the artist attending the event is singing ballad, like ayu's singing HEAVEN, so she can only pull out her happy songs which not many artist are able to. Tongue

thank you for the links and info.

and eyn's right. usually artists who have countdown live concerts leave as soon as they finish their performance (imo, i think that's pretty rude).

not really surprise at ai's choice of song, since SMILY was probably her bigest hit for the year. i hope in the near future, one of her ballad will become her bigest hit. and hopfully, she'll choose to perform that ballad instead of an up-beat song.

Ohh, I'm disappointed too Surprised
Last year she sang Sakuranbo. So I expected an old hit like daisukidayo or kingyo hanabi. And then a limited special edition like the Sakuranbo Encore Press... Laughing

Woohoo, it's "Kouhaku" time!

The line-up is pretty good this year. I'm happy that a lot of my favorite artists are going and singing good songs too. Love

Ok, so Ai will be singing "SMILY" then. A performance of "PLANETARIUM" would have been nice but I'm happy that she's singing at all.

Was SMILY really Ai's biggest hit this year? PLANETARIUM is still faring well in the charts two months after its release!

I really would've liked to see Otsuka sing BOTH SMILY and PLANETARIUM. But I guess that can't happen. Confused xD

yeah... i guess the japanese public haven't been viewing Ai chan to be "mature" enough to sing Ballads.. making her sing her norinori songs ~_~

Ai Chan !! We want Planetarium !

so finally Ai will sing Smily in Kouhaku
i m quite disappointed too:(
i also want her to sing either Planetarium, or Neko ni Fuusen.
but Smily is temporarily the most popular song in this year, so it is not strange for her to sing it Smile
hope that her ballads will become very popular in the near future and Ai will perform them in Kouhaku the next year Tongue

like many of u guys, i think ai-chan should sing neko ni fuusen or planeterium. but according to wikipedia it seems that the songs to be sung are chosen by a selection committee, not by the singers themselves No shouldnt a singer choose whatever he/she want to sing in a concert Confused
