Erm... hehehe... here's some Japanese metal bands that you've probably never heard of...

[OK, you probably all know X-Japan... their first 2 albums are GOLD]
Loudness
Dementia
Sacrifice
Sabbat
Sigh -without doubt my favourite entity to have ever emerged from Japan.

Also partial to the 5.6.7.8's and Melt Banana. Recently discovered Polysics too.

Question: have any other Japanese acts managed to capture the youthful joy that is inherent in Sakuranbo? I've listened to a couple of J-Ska bands and am yet to hear anything that bouncy and cheerful.

Yes!

(1) Maria, produced by RunTime same Hokkaido company that was producer of ZONE and includes one ZONE musician too! she is Maiko Sakae who is bass player and singer.

(2) PUFFY who is Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura, they are playing and singing together ten years now, they are very excellent punk rock band!

(3) YUI is only female in her band but she is singer and guitarist, also amazing song writer! she is playing lead guitar in latest single "Jam."

(4) GO!GO!7188 another punk band, two women: Yumi Nakashima who is guitarist and singer, Akiko Noma who is bass player and singer, this band is now almost 10 years too.

I'm not much into J-rock.

I like a bit of Malice Mizer.
Akira Yamaoka's music is AMAZING.

But I TRULLY, FULLY LOVE and ADORE Nanase Aikawa!!!
