Arctic Monkeys are English
Anyway, it's not really the kind of music I listen to I'm afraid When I listen to rock, I like the classics back from the 60s and 70s, and tend not to go for modern variations of rock as for me it's like, well, the Beatles did the same stuff 40 years ago...
But thanks for the recommendations anyway! I guess I really should hear them properly first, just I have so much other music to listen to at the moment - Someone else keeps recommending me music I wont mention who hehe
But yeh - Once I finally get through all the Japanese music I want to hear, I will move onto the "indie" scene then Just s shame there is SoooOooooOOoOOOooooo much music to listen to

^ John Mayer is...not my cup of tea. Neither is James Blunt. Although I'm pretty sure James Blunt is English...
But on a slightly random, yet still definitely on-topic note, I love Yellowcard. They're fun. And I like The White Stripes. Yay! |

I like John Mayer I don't care for James Blunt, though. He is way too depressing! If genres were solely determined by the meaning of lyrics, he would be the epitome of emo in my opinion...pretty music, just....wow...he must be clinically depressed or something. |

John Mayer is okay in my book. Sometimes I can get tired of his songs because they play it too much on the radio. x.x
Right now I'm feeling Alicia Keys' "No One". ^-^
As for the music that is popular in America right now, such as Soulja Boy and Chris Brown, not a big fan of it. ._. |

^ I love Alicia Keys Her CD was the first one I ever got as a kid. And yeah, rap is sort of going down the drain now... I mean, there's still some that is actually music but a lot of it is pretty skeletal. It's not much more than some synthesizers and a random instrument here and there. |

Well...if anyone like some Indie music, try to listen The Kooks - Naive.
About American Music...I like a lot. Most are pop/rock music. Sometimes I listen something like HIM, Joss Stone or randon things. But lately I prefer search for new artists. |

Probably the main reason I got into J-Pop was the demise of the American music scene. Nothing original has come out for so long, just a lot of copy cat bands who are pale imitations of the bands the copied. My favorite music genre is the English punk sound from 77 to about 83 or so. But after the, 90's indies rock from the US is what I fell in love with and still listen to, sadly most of the bands are broken up, sigh. My faves from the era are Pavement, Guided by Voices, Superchunk and Sonic Youth, between those 4 bands have about 70 CDs. Actually have been getting into the J-Rock indie scene, sadly everyone in the music rating thread thinks, er, well... not too highly of them. That's okay though, nice to see another left-for-dead thread brought back to life.
Er, here's another reason though to get into J-Pop!

I agree with you, hitomi--I feel American music now is so dried out and overproduced...all the while, sounding so underproduced. I mean, really, what in all mercy is this Miley Cyrus crap? Do Disney stars automatically have some strange ability to sign record labels and think they're so amazing? Well I have got something to say to Disney:
Ai Otsuka.
That is all. Take some notes, Disney, you could learn to start some respectable careers this way. |

Green Day and the Off Spring I like, but not as much as their older stuff... probably made Koda mad with that Avril pick, she's from Canada! Was playing Can earlier today, an old German band from the 70's with a Japanese lead singer who sang in English. |
