Ai Otsuka, 23, was awarded the Grand Prix of the 8th Internet Music Festival. She attended the award ceremony which was held in the Sony Building in Tokyo.
Her 2nd single, "Sakuranbo", which was released in December 2004, the song tune has been downloaded from the internet for more than 1 million times, which successfully created new record in the history last July. So far, her music of 163 pattern (I don't get this) reign as an authority with over 10.18 million downloads. Ai Otsuka expressed, "Everyone is paying attention to the internet now, I feel very happy winning this award".

Well, that's the news posted at Sanspo on December 9th, a little late I know, but anyway the official site just posted a video message of the award winners, so you can go there and check it out yourself!
Past winner of the Grand Prix award:
As a sidenote, excite music published their 3rd annual event, "January Message Special 2006", which consists of lots of video message by different artists. The artists are asked questions like "Goals in 2006" so if anyone happens to know what Ai-chin is talking about in the video, feel free to post a translation here. Of course, translation of the award video from the Internet Music Festival site too, if possible.
Do take note that the excite music video message special is a limited time offering, which means you can only access those videos from January 1st to 12th. Also, they not only have the video message, they also have a written message and present section. Too bad they don't have the written message by Ai-chin there, but still you can find stuff written by BoA, Shimatani etc.

I'm not sure I completely understand the basis of this award, but it's awesome none the less! Ai is getting more and more awards and recognition! Thanks for the heads up on this. She's broken records? Does that mean that she's not only won the award for this year, but she's had the highest internet sales of all time? I don't know why, but this award is really confusing me.
Edit: Thank you for the translation! |

excite video translation:
"To all the Excite Music fans out there, a very Happy New Year. I'm Otsuka Ai. 2005 was, another year since having debuted, and all year long I was working hard day after day on different kinds of music, and even things other than music, all in all, it was a very good year.
Q. What was 'Exciting' about 2005? (On Screen: About exciting things done in 2005)
If I look back on things that were exciting in 2005, I would have to say... LIVEs I suppose, going on my first ever nationwide tour, was very exciting, even more than I had thought it would be.
Q. What will be your theme for 2006? (On Screen: Theme expected in 2006)
2006..um... won't be especially different I think. Compared to last year, I want to Level-Up a little and work hard to present an all around better Otsuka Ai to all of you. One thing that's coming soon is the.. .. .. ..the next nationwide tour that starts on the 1st of April, all the dates and venues have been decided, so everyone, definately come and watch me LIVE.
Finally, to all the fans out there on Excite Music, I'm greatful for your continued support. Thanks to all of you, last year I was able to bring smiles to you all and hopefully this year too I will be able to do the same if not more.
Thank you for listening. I'm Otsuka Ai."
Screencap:
I'll do the Internet Music Festival one tomorrow...

Thanks eyn for the news and horizon180 for the translation... This quite attests to her popularity for her to win such an award...
I like how she hints she is slowly edging towards a different/more mature image as she progresses in her career. Too bad I can't go to the tour. |
