Synopsis:
Tagline: "What's 'Justice' when you're a divorced cop with one kid?"
Yukihira Natsumi is a no-nonsense, intelligent, Tokyo homicide cop with a bad reputation for not working well with others and pushing the limits of the law. As she sees it, her only job is bringing in the bad guys and the results are all that counts. In so, 5 years ago she had to pull her weapon and kill a man, earning the ire and distrust of some of her coworkers and members of the community. To bring balance to her life, she must deal with work, a divorce, and caring of her young daughter.
A dark crime drama of a serial murderer who is serializing the murders in short stories.

What I thought:
Prior to watching the first episode, I had heard a lot of hype about how this was going to be a good drama especially after last summer's Anego, as most of the team from that drama reunite once again for this one. The first episode starts off with an encounter between Yukihira Natsumi, a "no-nonsense female detective/cop" and an armed assailant, and that beginning sequence somehow sums up Natsumi's personality perfectly. Fearless, unorthodox, albeit a little reckless, and a strongminded police officer. Some other characters in this drama are of her partner Ando (Eita) who's the typical newbie rookie young cop who respects Natsumi a lot and backs her up. There is also Natsumi's childhood friend Reiko (Kobayashi Mao) who's like a younger sister to her, and Natsumi's colleague Renmi (Hamada Mari). Alongside are a tough boss, an estranged ex-husband, a little daughter and her nanny. The story itself is about a serial killer who sums up his plans in short stories and delivers them to the Police in such a way that by the time the Police read the story, the murder is already taking place. I'm assuming this is going to be a series about Natsumi's relationship with the people around her, her dedication to her job and her unorthodox techniques and sharp acumen for solving cases that will take her to the bottom of this serial killer's mysterious identity. When Reiko becomes a victom of the serial killer, the case for Natsumi becomes personal. What struck me most was the style of drama this is, it's dark. No bunnies and rainbows in this one. You can feel the lonliness, the sadness and the resulting strong resolve in Shinohara Ryoko's character of Natsumi, very good acting as always.
It hasn't been subbed yet so people who cannot understand Japanese will have to wait and hope that someone subs this series soon. Those who can should watch it and those who can't should look forward to fansubs or Region 2 DVDs ^_^
I give this series a 9/10
EDIT (2006.03.23)
OK, I've now seen all 11 episodes... this is by far the most exciting drama i've seen yet!!
Can I change my 9/10 to a 10/10 |

Good job horizon180. Thanks for the introduction of this series, I really appreciate that.
I think there are more than 10 dorama series during this winter in Japan, and I was wondering which dorama I should watch first. After read your review and and 9/10 that given by you, I decided to watch this first. |

I finished this dorama quite a while ago and I kinda like it, but not very much. The storyline is quite cool with lots of murder and mystery but I think overall the plot is a little too fake, especially in the end when they reveal everything. I don't know if it's possible to connect all those criminals together the way they put it, it's just a little too perfect to be true IMO.
Still, overall this dorama is still quite entertaining. Those of you who like to solve puzzles should really give this a try. Everything will be explained when you reach the last episode. |

By any chance, anyone knows an alternative way to get this dorama apart D-Addicts? |

This is somewhat on topic and kind of off at the same time. I wanna see this drama but are they making a movie for this drama or something? I'm asking because I just saw the new Yuna Ito PV and her new single "I'm Here" is suppose to be for Unfair but I'm not sure if it's for the drama or a movie. |

Sweet. I have another question. Is the movie going to be a continuation of the dorama (like how Tokyo Friends was) or is it going to be complete separate just with a similar story (like how Taiyo(u) no Uta was? |
