Title: 花より男子 Hana Yori Dango (boys over flowers)
[based on the manga of the same name by Kamio Yoko]
Genre: romance, comedy, live-action (of anime/manga)
TV Station: TBS
Episodes: 9 too short!
Broadcast Period: 2005.10.21 to 2005.12.16
Theme Song: WISH - arashi
Insert Song: PLANETARIUM - Ootsuka Ai
Cast: (Main)TBS Official HYD site

Synopsis:
Makino Tsukushi goes to the very presitigious Eitoku High School. The only problem is she's the only "commoner" there -- everyone there is SUPER (as in only in a fantasy) rich. The school is home to F4 -or Flower 4- who consists of 4 heirs to major Japanese companies. F4 are bullies who always terrorize other students for ridiculous reasons (like accidently being squirted in the eye by an orange), and beat them and humiliate them until they quit the school. Unfortunately, the school has allowed the F4 to do whatever they want because of the large sums of money the school recieves from their family. Even more unfortunate is that the Eitoku students are quick to turn on a classmate who has been given the "red slip" (a slip put in the locker by the F4 to indicate the next target) and help with the terrorizing as well. When Tsukushi talks back to the F4 leader Doumyouji Tsukasa when defending a friend, she becomes the next target. Unlike the other students, Tsukushi won't back down and declares war with the F4! Thus begins the drama, comedy, and many love triangles of "hana yori dango - boys over flowers!"

My Opinion:
In my honest opinion, this was the best drama aired in the fall season and has become one of my favorite dramas ever. It's filled with so much personality and spunk, and the characters are really fun to watch. Many of them (especially Tsukushi's family) act as if they are real-life manga characters. The actors really impressed me, and they each did a wonderful job portraying their characters. I especially enjoyed Inoue Mao, MatsuJun (of the idol group ARASHI), and newcomers Matsuda Shota and Abe Tsuyoshi's performance.

Not to mention it's very funny, especially Tsukasa's apparent lack of fluency in his native Japanese tongue and his stupidity. Laughing

Even though the drama was super-short with only 9 episodes, I think the plot unfolded well and it was better than some shows with the average 11+special episodes. I'm really sad that it's over because I'd like to see how Tsukushi and Tsukasa's relationship continues, hopefully (mostly because of the "See you soon!" written in the last episode) there will be a second season because this series really is addicting to watch! But, I think the final episode was done well and one of the best episodes of the series. Nod

Rating: 9.5/10! Love

haha i really liked this drama too
i never read the manga
but my friend recommended that i watch this!!

when i was watching the first few minutes of the first episode i was realyl confused as to what kind of drama it would be because it seemed so mysterious and in a way kinda scary haha but then it went to the opening song and i was thrown off of the scariness and mystery of it all

all in all i thought the drama was packed full of drama and humour and i think i can really see the "manga-like" quality of some of the characters (the family!) like broken::dreams mentioned!

maybe i should start reading the manga or something now haha but the story was pretty cool! i actually somehow managed to get my parents into watching it too, and by the end we were all watching it together... haha it was pretty awesome

i give this drama a 9/10!!

^ Yes Nod I haven't seen it though and in all honestly never plan to. I doubt they can do better than the cast in this jdrama. Tongue

I think Taiwan likes to do manga-based dramas 'cause I know they have one for the manga "MARS" also. I want that manga to be a jdrama too. *hopes*

yuko, I had to look up Mika Todd, but I don't think Shizuka looks like her at all. Confused To tell you the truth I think Shizuka looks kinda weird and pretty at the same time...^^;;

totally o/t but I totally didn't know that Coconuts Musume was made up of Americans from Hawaii. Weird. Sneeze

^ SUMMER SNOW (my fav. drama) is what really made me take notice of Oguri Shun. I think he has some real talent. However, in this drama, as well, as in Gokusen, I think Matsumoto Jun took the spotlight, really (they both starred together in Gokusen, too). I've really taken a liking to MatsuJun as an actor, and I think he has some major potential, even though he is an idol. Tongue

Actually, idols have been surprising me lately, since the lead of "1 Litre of Tears" was a bikini model/idol person, and she did an absolutely wonderful job as Aya.

And, "WISH" is so catchy, I caught myself singing along to it in the beginning of the show. And PLANETARIUM really comes up at the right moments and I have to say it matches so perfectly with the drama. Love

Aww, you mention summer snow Sad I just finished that series the other day, it was so sad ;_;

Anyways ~~ Hana Yori Dango I really enjoyed Smile I think so far it was one of my favorite series I've seen. I haven't read the manga as well (not too into manga in the first place) but I think I might check it out if I ever get the chance Giggle Just to see what it's like.

I thought most of the characters in this series were very likable too~ I even liked tsukasa's mom, ahah~ I thought she was cool.

With MatsuJun I am surprised though at how many series I've seen him in Giggle I think he's a good actor actually, I wouldn't have known just by looking at him, haha. I didn't even know he was in a pop group until I was searching his name up on a website Giggle It was surprising.

When I heard planetarium playing in the episode for the first time I was surprised actually Giggle And really glad her song was getting exposure in it Wink It's one my favorites~

Haha, and I think you guys should watch this funny clip "Hana Yori Danshi" with MatsuJun and Hard Gay , It's hilarious. There was a whole special to this, but I could only find the clip that was made in the end of it Smile

The Clip~~

Same here Smile I'm not into idol groups, so when I found out about his idol status recently it was a shocker. Idols-turned-Actors more often than, not, aren't that good at all. Idols are usually based on looks alone, rather than actual talent anyway... Sneeze

And yeah, that clip that you linked to actually is really funny XDD i was dying when HG was dancing on the pole. And the "shadow scene" nice. XDDD SO FUNNY.

i just started this dorama and im only episode 3, but this dorama absolutely rocks! even though i find jun matsumoto an annoying character (and actor; i couldnt stand watching anymore of kimi wa petto after the 2nd episode because it got so annoying), inoue mao makes up for it along with the appearances by mayumi sada <---hot!
