Hm... I think when fans praise her for her talent and creativity, it is about her musical talents and creativity, nothing to do with her and her PV's.
I don't think Otsuka Ai has much say in what her PV's as of yet. |

I dunno, a lot of people also praise her for having creative and original PVs. I won't say for sure that she does do her PVs herself, since I'm not present in her workplace or company, but I don't think we can so easily conclude as well that she doesn't have a say in her PVs.
P.S.: If she doesn't do them herself I'll be very disappointed, SMILY was brilliant.. |

| I don't hear any similarity at all when I listen to the songs...the pictures do look a bit alike..but I think Ai-Chan's innocent... |

Well, I have to say these two songs do sound remotely similar.. but I think that flash page someone linked above is pretty ridiculous. Sure there are a few songs on there that are pretty questionable.. like Sakuranbo.. its apparently the same exact song as the Himawari song, and SMILY which is pretty similar to the wyse song. However, most of those songs have very little or nothing at all in common with the supposedly plagiariased song! At least, that's what I think.
So I voted (or will vote ><) "Are you kidding?!?!" |

| I don't believe this. Maybe the PV is a rip-off for a few milliseconds, but Planetarium is such an original and pretty ballad. And it's not fair to compare Ai songs to each other - they come from the same artist, so obviously they'll have similarities in terms of arrangements and composition. |

It is, because Otsuka Ai was part of Himawari a few years back, but they had no success at all, and disbanded after one or two indies single. Otsuka Ai's partner was offered another job, and Otsuka Ai pursued a solo career. She probably got Ikoman to remix Sakuranbo, and then released it herself. |

I wanted to read all of the posts before saying my own opinion, but then I saw there were almost 6 pages.. So, I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm repeating what someone else has already said!
I think that in the music industry, you will find a lot of PV's that look alike. Even internationally! For example, if you compare some of Kwon Boa's PVs to Britney Spears (you can find a lot of these comparisons in forums like Boajjang.net) you'll see more than one share the same concept. And some came years before others, while other nearly released at the same time!
The important thing is to think of how the song relates to the PV and to listen to the originality of the lyrics and music. That's what makes each PV so unique - not how they compare to other artists' PVs. Does that make sense? I hope so, heh heh. |

| yes i agree that the ikitai yo is kinda similiar, just that suteki da ne is slower. there was also this source that said that planetarium sounded like one of Mr. Children aka Misuchiru's songs as well.=( but come on! there're so many songs in this world so we cant expect every single song to be unique, right?=) |

| I can say they are definitely not affiliated. But they do sound similar. I do love both songs though cos I am both a great FFX and Ai-chin fan. I do believe FFX was made 4 years before Ai's Planetarium came out. But I'm not sure if that makes a point or not really. But they definitely do not make a connection. No way. |

about the PV, I agree with eyn .
but about the melody... you know, good composers, when composing a new melody, tries to fit the right "keynote" that channels one part with another.
what do I mean? When Ai Otsuka was composing Planetarium, she probably made the melody before and after the "ikitai yo" part. So, there's a "blank note/missing note", and she needs it to channel those melodies of before and after the "ikitai yo" part.
So, think about it. There isn't much choice to choose a note to fit this missing part (the "ikitai yo" part), because if Otsuka had chosen a different note in that part, it would probably ruin the melody.. So she didn't have much choice but to put that "keynote" of "ikitai yo" melody part, so that it sounded nicely.
sorry if it got a little complicated |
