I love 愛大塚 from her song SMILY and lately Planetarium. Love Just yesterday in my Media class, some people gave a presentation about Plagiarism Issues in the Japanese Music Industry. I did NOT want to believe it but after checking the reference source that the presenters gave us:

here

I can't help myself being so disappointed. Sad If you are a Final Fantasy fan, you might have listened to 「素敵だね」 (Suteki da ne) and the part when it goes 「行きたいよ~] (Ikitai yo) is exactly the same but faster in 愛大塚 's Planetarium. Shocked

We were trying to find out if AVEX asked any permission from NIKKI but we couldn't find anything. Does anyone know anything about this?

To be completely honest, FFX was one of the first things that came to mind when I saw the PV for Planetarium for the first time. I think that's why I liked it so much. I never quite thought of it as plagiarism because when you normally think of plagiarism, you think of words and melodies, not scenes and visuals. Especially when you think of one as an animation and the other as a live action.

But did they consciously plagiarize the work? I think that's more a question to ask yourself. Because often times there are images that you like that become ingrained in your mind. Then you go and create something and without even realizing it, you've reproduced someone else's work.

I think if you'll notice, all the different pictures come from different parts of the PV and the Game. It's not like they took one scene from the game and re-did it as a live action.

Did AVEX perhaps get permission for this? Did they need permission to use similar ideas?

As for the connection between Ai and the plagiarism, I don't feel that she had much to do with this. I mean how much control does an artist, especially at her stage in her career, have over the artistic elements of her video?

This is an interesting topic, though. Thank you for sharing it.

Edit: Wait a second. Are you saying that there's a potential plagiarism within the melody of the song, too? Is there somewhere to back that up? Can someone upload the song or something. I don't remember what it sounds like and I'd be very interested to hear it.

I also wanted to add that all of the pages on that website are pretty interesting. Is this a case of plagiarism? Or is this a case of just having a similar style? Now I'm really intrigued.

i think this is the key thing. i havn't watched 'suteki da ne' PV, so i don't know if all these comparison sceens were taken from the game or PV.

but even if it was really plagurized, is it really ai's fault? maybe the director was the one who took the idea and ai had no idea about it

The first picture is exactly the same. I'm actually not bothered by this much. Afterall, it IS only a PV. Bear in mind Otsuka doesn't decide what she wants her PV to be like, and obviously, she is no Final Fantasy gamer, so even if the staff at Avex were indeed plagiarisng, you can't blame Otsuka for that.

But as I said, it IS only a PV, no respect lost for Otsuka Ai on my part. You nearly had me there thinking Otsuka Ai had plagiarised the music or lyrics of PLANETARIUM, I sat there thinking 'OMG! NO WAY! LIES!' But of course, Otsuka Ai would never ever, and I mean never ever plagiarise music.

Anyhow, I prefer the PLANETARIUM PV over Suteki da ne. Animated characters just aren't my thing. (OK, maybe except LOVE-chan Love)

It's so hard to be original these days when it seems like almost every idea is already taken. However, if there are so many "coincedences" like in this case, I would like to be objective about it. Sad

Although not all of the scenes are similar (or shall we say "plagiarized"?) , the concept of walking on the water, the design of the flower, the idea of watching the falling stars... everything was just "accidentally" similar and "accidentally" chained together in the exact same order ? Little scenes aren't just little scenes, each of them is a product of creativity and hard work. Plus, if you want to copy someone without making it so obvious, you wouldn't copy the whole thing, would you? Wink

I am not anti-Otsuka Ai. I am just so disappointed because Planetarium is for me her best song ever... The best part that I like in the song is 「行きたいよ」 I swear I bought the CD right away after I heard that part of the song on TV, and guess what it's not original (or it hasn't been proven to be original yet). I am really seeking for some proof, some good evidence that there was some copyright permission or else I'm gonna ... err... still be disappointed. Crying

The PV isn't really that similar. I mean, it's a lot easier to compare screenshots and say who copied whom than actually watching a PV. I mean, there are similar shots, but they're executed differently, and isn't a major part of the PV anyways.

As with the song, that's the part where it baffles me a little. I mean with the part of Ikitai yo is exactly the same, even the lyrics. Of course, it's probably just a coincidence, but didn't she composed this PLANETARIUM when she's younger? she could have watched the whole final fantasy PV before she debuted and subconciously used that part. however, if she DID copy the music, then, well, maybe she'll learn from this. However, innocent until proven guilty.

Suteki da ne - the song sample along with the PV

The "Ikitai yo" part definitely sound alike but overall the chorus of both song is different. The issue of plagarism is not as strong as the SMILY/WYSE case. Perhaps, Ai's idea came from this song but she managed to compose it into a totally new tune(a better one I feel). I hope the media don't blow this thing into a big issue again cause both song definitely sound different. Pardon me cause I don't know to what extent 2 song sounded the same then will be accused of plagarism. I have listen to cases that the chorus between 2 song sounded exactly the same except for the arrangment and pace of both songs. These case is like how Orange Range had been accused of plagarism where only small part of their songs sounded like songs from other singer. There is even website setup to show the similiarities of Orange Range's song and songs from other singers. You have to be very sharp ear to note the similiarities. So does copying or coincidencely sounded similiar to a small part of other songs infringe copyright? I don't know. For me, these two song are definitely different as a whole.

I think it's just that similarities like this are bound to happen~ Really the best proof I see is that first picture being the same, but it could be like a stock photo so they could have both used it without plagarising~ Just my two cents anyway~
