This contest would have ended earlier if I didn't extend the deadline, but anyway I'm glad I did extend it because I got around 5 more entries during this extended period, thanks for everyone who spend their time taking part in this "annual" event (just decided to use this term after seeing the huge response from the cool members here).

We have 12 entries for our first ever Karaoke contest and I have to say I'm pretty amazed by the overall quality of the submissions. Some are almost close to professionally done, if only studio recording equipment are used instead of 5 those dollars mics most entries are created with. Anyway, do listen to all of them and maybe try to figure which voice belongs to which member. You'll probably be surprised when the final result is announced.

Before you vote, I have some advice for you guys. Do listen to every single entry before you decided who to vote for (just to be fair to all contestants), and please be absolutely fair when you're voting, do not vote for an entry because it makes you laugh (you will, after listening to some entry, I promise), and do not vote for an entry because you can guessed who that person is. Lastly, do not vote for an entry based on how many votes it gets (either high or low), i.e. don't let others affects your decision. Vote for the entry with the best voice and best singing, it might not necessarily mean it's the entry that has the closest voice to Ai-chin.

Enough of the rambling, it's time to announce this year's contestants:

The voting process will be opened for one week. Take your time listening to all entries, I'm sure you'll enjoy them very much, and vote for the one you like the best. Do note that only members with 30 posting above will be able to vote. Wink

The prize for the winner is Ai-chin's upcoming 11th single, either CD only or CD+DVD version, depending on the choice of the winner.

As Lainay said, may the best one win! ^-^ I totally agree

Entry1-your voice is being drowned by the music...why didn't you amplify your voice? why sakuranbo piano...what is wrong with the original...I like your continued determinism throughout the song...

Entry2-i love it! the voice, the impression it gives me...so spectacular~ very very professional...the song keeps skipping,,, is it my headset or your file? some places you overexaggerate and it makes the song kinda iffy...but overall...Sparkling performance! skippy skippy skippy *shakes head* the last part...sora nee..i can hear you take two breathes...tsk tsk...

Entry3-please get the lyrics right =_=...follow tempo...very brave male participant...pitch is off..messed up at chrous but still strong with continuism..."hashisukidayo?!!!" if you cannot get this right how come you entered this contest with this song? i understand being nervous but this is ridiculous! practice! *shakes head*

Entry4-why is it so short? very soothing voice and impressive for daisukidayo..japanese is ok...did not stress when needed...too short to judge...out of the question...

Entry5-at one part, you are not with tempo. but your voice is cute ne? kawaii~music is a lil too loud...should have amplified your voice a lil more...

Entry6-i love your voice! it sounds like Ayumi Hamasaki...however the ending what happened? you got drowned by music...and the bridge you didn't do the mmMmmm part...

Entry7-please rehearse your japanese words...this is a hard song...why did you choose it if you cannot hold the long endings? the transitions are weird...

Entry8-please do not strain your voice...it sounds like you are trying too hard and it doesn't make the song sound better...do not slur the japanese words...do not staccato the japanese words...when you need to drag the sounds it sounds like you are dead? do not try to vibrate the sounds like Hacken Lee...it only works for him...

Entry9-the music is too loud even though i can hear your voice...your voice is cute! you missed some cues which disappoints me..at the bridge..you kinda disappointed me...i feel you can do a stronger bridge...

Entry10-the beginning is too fast...you seem to be saying the words, not singing them..too fast...follow tempo...music kinda drowns your voice...you are off pitch sometimes...you cannot hit oshare properly...you killed motto motto...you sing the last part of the chorus too fast...take your time will you?!

Entry11-you seem too tense at beginning...its should be more calm...first part is too fast...what is the rush ppl? i know it is a hard tempo to follow...you cannot hit oshare properly either...you sound like Tanaka Rie...your voice is drowned at chorus...the pitch is too high...we are not in choir...how about some cuteness at gira gira? music is too loud...

Entry12-too quiet...hold the sounds better? pitch is bad...where are the high notes...some of the japanese words are wrong...please sing at least one verse for me omg ><...all i hear is reading and occasional strain at stress points...the bridge you impressed me with the strength n comfidence u had until u messed up...

In my opinion, the best are 2,5,6 and 9. I will listen to all of it one more time before I make my final decision.

@ eyn: There should be a rule that you CANNOT VOTE for YOURSELF!!!!
this is super important i think!

Wow, that was a lot of fun to listen to. Boogie

While I was listening to all of them, I was writing down a list of the ones that I liked, and the list just kept growing and growing, and then I was done listening to entries...so the great dilemma began! "I like this one! Oh crap, what about that one, that was really good too... Ok, I like this one more than this one...*scribble scribble*" >.<

I'm looking forward to the results!

woah kikubelle don't you think you were a tad bit too harsh on some of them? It's okay to critisize, but you are being way too critical. This is a singing contest, not a contest to find out how good pronounciation is. Of course if they've never spoken or have no other contact with the language other than the music they listen to, it's not going to be anyway near how native's speak. You tell them to practice, but in reality, they may have practiced and practiced but still not be able to get it right. Some people just aren't that great in listening and repeating other languages. And they weren't trying to be professional, but just have fun to get the new Ai single for free. No

I guess you are kinda right broken::dreams but as far as competition, if you want to win you have to struggle to get things right. If you know pronounciation is bad, you have to work at it! Work until you get it right! they way you put it, its like you want them to give up only cause they keep trying and cannot get it. If you keep trying then you will get where you want to be. If people gave up as easily as you say, then nothing will be invented or discovered. Honestly, I am not being harsh. I have only ever taken 3 years of music and if I can identify so much imagine what yumi can do? I think yumi has a good music background and anyone in the forum who has a good musical background. Tongue If you want to win you have to give your best! and some of it is not the best.

I think it's wonderful that you can have a nice background in music and all, but broken::dreams is right. This contest wasn't about producing professional quality music, it was about having fun. Did you ever think that maybe some people are giving it their best, truly believe what they produced was their best, and are proud of their work? Just because you don't think it's the best doesn't mean that the person who recorded it doesn't believe that they gave 110% of their talent and effort into recording it. Also, maybe not everyone entered for the sake of winning, maybe they just wanted to have fun and be a part of a great community. Who cares if it's not perfect?

I listened to all of every single entry and yeah, maybe they weren't all 100% flawless, but you'll never get Ai's version of perfection unless you are Ai yourself. Even if they weren't perfect, I still enjoyed them and I realize that everyone gave their best effort. (And I still think Channel-Ai is one of the most talented communities out there, hehe.) This isn't "American Idol", there are no professional contracts on the line. It's just a contest, and it's supposed to be fun. Lighten up a little, eh? Wink

First of all, kikubelle, I think that you're being way too harsh. I don't think anyone who entered signed up to be told how terrible their voice is, or their Japanese pronounciation. Perhaps they entered just to have a little fun.

Also, since when has KARAOKE been about having a great voice? It's extremely hard to take a song that someone else has done and done extremely well, and make it sound good with your own unique voice. If we were all doing original work, or songs that we felt fit our voice better, (believe me, Ai's vocal range is hard to fill!) we might sound twenty times better. I for one have never had a Japanese lesson in my life. If you've never spoken a language before, and barely had any contact with it, how well do you expect a person to SING it?

Have you heard Ai sing ENGLISH? There are many Japanese artists that I've heard sing English, that have been so terrible at it, that I didn't even realize they weren't still singing Japanese. At least they attempted it though.

Overall, what I'm trying to say is, this contest is about having fun and actually participating. Not about being the best singer, ever. I'm sure it took a lot of guts for people to enter this competition, and none of them signed up to be told how horrible you think they sound.

I'm sorry if I'm being a little harsh now, but there's a fine line between constructive criticism and just plain bashing a person's work, and I think you crossed it there a few times. No one wants their spirit crushed.

Kudos to everyone who entered! I'm so proud of all of you for doing this. I'll be listening to the entries over the next couple of days (Yay, dial-up!) and I'll vote after I've had a chance to listen to all of them. The amount of participation here truly shows how great this community is and can be. Love

While kikubelle may have said things that were a bit harsh, it is her opinion and she is entitled to express it. In fact, most of her comments were constructive criticism.

The point of the contest is to have fun, which everyone is, but surely people can cop a few comments. We aren't professional singers, do you really expect everyone to be fake and say 'OmG, YoUr EnTrY WaS Da BeSt.'?

One thing I do agree with others is that you shan't be too harsh on the pronounciation. None of us are native speakers... If we were told to sing in Russian, none of us would hold up to that. It's all about the voice I guess.

@kikubelle: Entry 4 was 4 minutes 45 seconds. That's the full song... yet you say it is too short? o.o

I only got 45 seconds for that entry...maybe i should dl it again...
What i gave was contructive criticism...there is a limit to how humble one can be...
and i think some people only express humbleness to get approval...
what i was said is my opinion and it doesn't matter how you react because it is my opinion...
i am entitled to freedom of speech at this forum...everyone is...
i said nothing inappropriate...these are just my thoughts on the entries...
they can be opposite to what you think...that is why maybe everyone is DIFFERENT...
quit picking on me as if I was the criminal
in fact i am a victim to all those who think my criticism is bad...ne?
they're not the only victims of this story...stop trying to press your ethics on me...
don't you think you are crushing my spirit by saying what i sad was bad?
i am not a little kid...
