As all of you should know, the 20th Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy, have commenced!! Here, we can talk about everything and anything to do with them.

I watched part of the opening ceremony last night, but I fell asleep before the torch was lit. XD Darnit, I wanted to see that. The ice skating and dancing and stuff was really pretty though.

Also, on another note, Torino is BEAUTIFUL. Like many, I had NOOO idea where Torino was, but WOW. That's really one of the most beautiful places.

i google up 'Torino', but all i got was the olympic related site. it took me awhile to figure it was in italy Giggle

i watch the re-run of the opening ceremony. but i only watched bit and pieces cause my sister kept channel hoping between NBC and CBC. it took forever for them to light the torch! but the performances between were really nice. i was a little disappointed when they lit the torch. it was fancy and all, but i was hoping to see something more traditional.

edit: just found out canada got a gold in skiing Boogie

I was kind of disappointed by the opening ceremony. I've seen better in the previous games. I did really enjoy the different things they managed to create solely using people. The giant downhill skier, the beating heart, the dove of peace, etc. It was a really beautiful ceremony. I also enjoyed Pavarati singing Nessun Dorma at the end, and the tribute to the reniassance period. But who on EARTH picked the 80's dance hits for the parade of nations? It had me in giggles. The 9 year old who sang the national anthem was amazing. I have to say that took a lot more guts than I will ever have. I was impressed.

I'm going to go insane before these games are over and the reason is Michelle Kwan. I'm such a freak, but I was in tears earlier because she had a bad practice session this morning. She's worked so hard and fought to get on the Olympic team this year. This will probably be her last shot at Olympic Gold, and if her injury is acting up again, she'll have to drop. I don't want this to happen! I will absolutely devastated if she doesn't get to skate. I've been a fan of hers since she was 13! The one time I saw her skate live and in person I broke down in tears and cried. Michelle is truly my role model and my muse in life. Crying

I have to say, though. She is going about it in a very dignified way. It takes a lot of solid character for a person to get to the Olympics and say that if they don't think they can do their best, they're going to withdraw and let the alternate go. You don't see that too often. Most people are filled with the visions of glory and gold. (Like me.) But she just competes for the love of the sport and competition in general.

Pairs skating tonight! I'm being Un-American here, but I'm all for Salé and Pelletier. Giggle

I totally agree. I've been a big fan of theirs since the Salt Lake City games, with that huge controversy. They're GONNA get gold this year, on their own. Smile (and they're married now WOOT)

I'm a huge Michelle Kwan fan, as well. I was exuberant when I heard that she would still participate this year. I'm really upset about her condition now. I know she can do it, she has before. GO MICHELLE, WOO. GO WIN US A GOLD, BABY! ..<_< No pressure.

P.S. I met Michelle Kwan at the airport a few years ago, and she's sooo friendly and really pretty.

I made this a while back, but we need it now!

Go For Gold Michelle!

"I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I've broken
But I swear in the days still left
We will walk in fields of gold
We'll walk in fields of gold"

I think I'm going to have to try to use my crappy graphic skills to make a set for here. Giggle

(Are they going to be Pelletier & Pelletier now? Giggle)

I do not really watch Olympics...
it never really appealed to me~
except when Canada wins~

GO CANADA!!!

and when the US use dirty cheats n get away with it...
I hate that...
I don't remember the names but one time I was watching swimming...
It was like 500M breaststroke or something...
in the last stretch...at the turn point...the US competitor did a summersault in the water to go faster than the others...n he was caught...
but NOTHING happened to him...what a jerk...

I missed the open ceremony. I was so sad.

But all the winter events were SO cool. In Olympics I look out especially for figure-skating and gymnastics.

I don't really know about the people participating but I hope they all do well ^^. I don't really cheer for a certain country, because I don't know any of them XD [ people there >< ]

But I have a question, last time in the Olympics there wasn't any winter events were there? How come? Well, unless there was but I might've missed it [ but I did catch Hockey and Ice-Skating, but not like... The emm... Luge... and and skiing... and ... o.o ]

Salé and Pelletier are not in the olympic this year. instead, they're participating in a HSBC program call 'Stars On Ice'.

Mokyomi, are you taking about the 2004 Olympics or 2002 (Winter) Olympics?

Sheesh, what a pity Michelle Kwan misses out again. Even though, I think she accepted the situation and handled the situation with great maturity....

Well, being Australian, there isn't much in the Winter Games for us. xD
But it was great to see Australia get a gold medal... even though the guy originally was Canadian. Laughing

I watch the Olympics every weeknight and all day on weekends (when I can). I love watching people from different countries compete. I get sad when people say they don't watch the Olympics. Sad My favorites to watch are speedskating (YAY, US is winning a lot!), skiing, and figure skating. Smile

I only thought Salé and Pelletier were competing this year because they used their images so much in the Olympic promo ads here. I was confused when I went to watch the pair skate and they weren't there. That was so awesome how the Japanese pair managed to recover from that nasty fall and win silver. Of course if we didn't have this new judging system... *mumbles incoherently*

Michelle Kwan is my idol. I cried when I found out she wasn't going to skate. Literally. I sat on my bed and went through all of my MK stuff and played her old skating tapes and cried. How emo is that? But seriously. She's actually thinking about competing in Vancouver in 2010. Which would be absolutely amazing!

I also think she handled the entire situation with great dignity and showed a great deal of her amazing character by bowing out and basically taking one for the team. People wonder why she has so many fans. A big reason, aside from her amazing grace on the ice, is her personality. She just exudes a certain aura when you're in the same room as her.

Mokie, there are Olympics every two years. It changes up from Summer to Winter. Like this:

2002 - Winter - Salt Lake City, Utah
2004 - Summer - Athens, Greece
2006 - Winter - Torino, Italy
...and so on.

I was sad that Johnny Weir didn't medal (His "aura was black inside."), in the Men's skate, but if anyone deserved the medal it was Evgeny Plushenko. I love him to death. Did you know he ended up in a car accident after he got Gold? Luckily no one was seriously injured, but wow. That could have been really bad.

In the Women's skate, I'm looking for Irina Slutskaya and Fumie Sugurie to medal. At least that's who I want.

...no I don't just watch the Olympics for the skating. I totally watched the Snowboarding and the Skiing and even Curling. I just know nothing about those sports.

Ugh, I'm so upset about Lindsay Jacobellis and her snowboarding dissapointment. She's from, um, my part of the country, and I've been a fan of hers. She really shouldn't have been such a showoff, and just should have done her business: to finish the race in first. T_T
