Here's an annoucement posting to sum up what I have said in my forum-wide email.
First of all, download forums has been removed and access is only given to those who are in the "Regulars" usergroup. Regular users are those who post their insightful comments in the forum, they do not need to post every single day, but they are members who are not afraid to share their opinions.
Gallery has been migrated from 4images to Gallery2. It used to be that full-view of images are allowed only for registered members but I decided to remove that restriction, just to discourage member who registered just to leech stuff from this site. Old gallery is still accessible here. One of the coolest feature in the new gallery is the slideshow feature, there are some really cool transition effect, but they are only available when you're using Internet Explorer.
Those are the 2 main changes I have done as an admin to discourage leeching of this site. I have also updated the rules to state the purpose of this forum a little more clearer, and what I expect from members as the webmaster. I hope these changes put no pressure on members, because I'm not forcing you to post, but discourage you to not post when you have chance to do so.
New forum style is in effect now, it's called Raid, developed by Mike Lothar, the designer of NoseBleed and AdInfinitum. Raid gives a very different feel compare to other conventional forum style, and I personally think the design is more suitable for discussion oriented site like this one due to the professional feel it delivers. Do take note that Raid is not so IE friendly, so you should get yourself Firefox if you haven't done so.
That's pretty much it. I've spent quite some effort to update the forum and gallery, and I hope these effort will be appreciated. If you have any suggestion, questions or comments about these changes I have made, feel free to leave a response here. If you would like to discuss about my decision to close down the site for reconstruction, feel free to post them here too.
I hope the new Channel-Ai will give you a refreshing feeling, and I hope as a member you'll enjoy this place more.
P.S. Karaoke contest voting will be opened for 3 more days. |

I like this new style! ^^ It looks very professional!
I don't know why but I was worried you would change the smilies. I'm glad you kept them! |

It was so sad seeing Channel-Ai close down last weekend. Sunday was seriously such a gloomy day knowing that it wasn't up anymore.
I'm glad to see it back up again and better than ever. It feels a lot cleaner on here now. I like the banner and everything but everything feels a lot bigger. The spaces between lines and sections are huge! Is there any way that could be toned down?
I hope everything goes better this time around. |

Nice job on 2.0. The style is different, but different is good in this case I hope it isn't too bad for IE users. Firefox is a better browser, but some people are too set in their ways to switch. The new gallery looks nice too. It's annoying when people stop developing (and patching security issues) on popular scripts. Hopefully the one you switched to has a good development team behind it.
Anyway, hope the changes helps solve the leecher problem. I noticed a decrease in bandwidth usage on the files I put up to share on my server when this site was down. I haven't reached the point where it was costing extra, but it was always a concern, especially since some people like to share the direct links elsewhere despite me asking that not be done. Grr. Anyway, the way I see it, if you're a serious Ai fan and would like to have this stuff, put in the time into the community and you can download it easy here. If not, then just get them from trackers or watch them at YouTube. That site has lots of Ai videos and stuff. Only problem with YouTube is that it's lower quality and you can't save them as media files to burn on DVD or whatever, but hey it's better than nothing. |

Yay, I am glad that Channel Ai is back up . I love this new style for this board its abstract yet simple. I hope there will be other styles we can choose from like your old format. I also like how you now have made restrictions in some areas of the board so that 'regular' members can only have access to them. |

When I tried to go to forum, it was down. It said please try again later so I kept retrying. Until i checked my e-mail, I did nto realize that it was going to be closed for a while T^T. That night I did not finish my homeowrk >< because I missed Channel-Ai and was in shock. I talked to spellcheck for 1 hour before goign back to my homework. I love this forum very much! and to see it go down (even for 1 week) is very very overwhelming.
The new forum style is professional looking and pretty! I like it and hate it at the same time. I am not getting used to where everything is e.g how to edit post etc. but i like the changing banner! it is very nice~ However the colours are very gloomy feeling. I think that since Channel-Ai is having a fresh start, there should be bright colours and generally happy icons. |

i missed the forum, a lot a lot. i'm glad to see all the changes, it make that one week of wait worth while
now that i've gotten use to the new style (sort of), it's actually not bad! although the big space and gaps are still bugging me (ex. the space break for the polls) i really like the random pictures for the banner. will this be the default style for guests now?
regarding the gallery. i compared the old gallery to the new one. the old on had a lot more text, random picture on the side, and shows you the latest pictures. if you take all those elements away, it's very much like the new gallery. what i'm trying to say is, the new gallery is a bit plain, but i think a change for simplicity is not a bad thing. |

I'm so happy Chai is back. I missed it sooooo much. I kept on checking if it was up instead of finishing my philosophy paper that I still have to do... I knew that Chai wouldn't leave forever!
Hm, I really don't know what to say about this style. I like it, I like it a lot, but I guess the vibe I get from it isn't all that great. Maybe I'll get used to it later. And magically, it renders correctly on Safari (I checked in Opera just to make sure, but Opera shows more of the layout i.e. the background than Safari.)
I was sad Chai was gone, but I think it was necessary. Without its closing, all those people that leech and think that they "deserve everything" wouldn't have gone. It's a nice "cleansing" of the forum. So glad the do-ra-ma is o-va.
As the admin, you should be able to do whatever you want with this site anyway and those people should thank you for creating it, not bashing you when you get upset 'cause a select few refuse to become an actual part of the community. You rock eyn! |

I've seen this scenario so many times, and it never fails to amaze me how many people get mad about someone shutting down a website or a forum because of abuse. The person who runs the forum or website is paying for it. They have every right to do what they want.
It wasn't much fun without Channel-Ai around, and I will admit that I whined about it quite a bit, but I think the closing was necessary. Hopefully the new features implemented will help keep things going around here and cut down on the leeching and spam.
As for the new style... well, I kind of have a love/hate relationship with it. It looks nice in some places, and others aren't so great. Like the gaps, and the fact that there is no definition between topics and sections. It's all so white. I love the random pictures at the top and the layout in general. I just think it will take a little bit of getting used to. |
