I'm surprised nobody made such a topic last year and I think it will be interesting to know which of her 2005 singles appeal the most to the members here so there you go, Ai-chin's best single of 2005 thread!

7th single: Kuroge Wagyuu Joushio Tanyaki 680 Yen | Release Date: 2005.02.09

8th single: SMILY/Biidama | Release Date: 2005.05.11

9th single: Neko ni Fuusen | Release Date: 2005.07.13

10th single: Planetarium | Release Date: 2005.09.21

As you can see, there are only 4 singles for year 2005. I believe she'll probably have only 3 singles in 2006 seeing "Frienger", her first single in 2006, won't be released till April 12.

A little summary for each single:
  • Kuroge Wagyuu Joushio Tanyaki 680 Yen is a remade song from her LOVE JAM album
  • SMILY single is her first no.1 single on Oricon weekly single chart
  • Neko ni Fuusen features a brand new image and many thought she cut and dyed her hair when we first saw her promo image
  • Planetarium is the image song of Hana Yori Dango and is also Ai-chin 3rd best selling single to date (after Sakuranbo and SMILY).

--

My personal favourite gotta be Neko ni Fuusen because it's such a unique single imo. First of all, it's the first time avex use digipak as first press and digipak rocks like nothing else! Giggle I have both digipak version of Neko ni Fuusen (CD and CD+DVD) and I haven't even opened them yet! Surprised I'm weird like that, forget it.

Neko ni Fuusen is also one of my favourite song of Ai-chin to date (along with Planetarium and Kingyo Hanabi). I absolutely love every single bit of this song and her short messy hair image also fits very well with the wild cat theme. The lyrics talks about a cat's view about the world and there's also lots of hidden meaning in the lyrics such as cat (neko) represent the carefree attitude towards life while red balloon (fuusen) represent love. Nod (interpretation taken from official site) B-side of Neko ni Fuusen is amazing as well. Natsuzora is arguably her best B-side to date.

Overall, I believe Neko ni Fuusen is her best single in 2005. Nod

I have to agree that Neko ni Fuusen was her best single of 2005. While some of her other singles were more popular and were higher on the charts, Neko ni Fuusen seemed to be a sort of turning point in Ai's style. It was a beautiful, breathy ballad with a deeper message than we'd seen previously. I loved the change in style, and I love her voice like that. It still remains, to this day, one of my favorite songs. Not to mention that the single had an awesome b-side. Nod

Good topic u came out with Mr eyn. I'm strongly agree that Natsu Sora is the best B-side ever! I like the string part a lot. And i even prefer Natsu Sora than Nekko ni Fussen!

It's kinda hard for me to choose either one from 680yen or Nekko. I like both. But i'll vote for 680yen since there're 3 tracks in the album! I like 300yen too.

Anyway, i'm sad to say that i have non of her single CD. it's not available in Malaysa. Eyn, when u come back to Malaysia and check at the CD shops. Bet your'e going to cry since the variety of japanese CDs available in Malaysia is so little. And the prices kill too...

edit : Opps... i think i'll just vote for Nekko...

this is hard, all the singles a so unique from each other.

Kuroge Wagyuu Joushio Tanyaki 680 Yen showed ai's composing talents. she was able to change the score and give a whole different feel to the song. and in this PV, she plays with a different image: sexy. a lot of people will argue that this is not sexy, but to me it is. and it's because i felt uncomfortable while watching it for the first time with a guy friend, the same feeling that i got when i first watch kumi's butterfly with him.

SMILY/Biidama are such upbeat and fun song. in the PV, you can see that ai really enjoy herself. i love how she's only wearing t-shirt and jeans, no fancy wardrobe. she managed such a simple image, and still make the audience go 'wow'. biddama, is one of those "rare" song where ai doesn't write about love relationship. rather, it's just a song fill with a positive message.

Neko ni Fuusen, definitely very different from previous ai songs. in fact, it's the last type of song i expect from ai. i was especially impress, to see how ai can produce both upbeat songs like SMILY/biidama and deep songs like neko ni fuusen. the b-side natsu sora is excellent. one of my favourite b-side songs. and it's definitely the best b-side single of 2005.

PLANETARIUM, what can i say, it's about stars. and i'm a major sucker for 'stars' related things (you should see my earrings collection!) i love the traditional instruments and the way it blended in so nicely with the piano. this song leads us back into the 'love' theme, and it sort of talks about ai growing up.

I voted for Planetarium...but it was hard to choose between that and Neko ni Fuusen...... I just like the song Planetarium better than Neko..because it's such a wonderful ballad..and whenever I listen to it...I always imagine an image of a beautiful night sky in my head.... but I strongly agree that Natsu Sora is definitely her best B-side...I really love the intsruments in that song..... but overall..I like Planetarium the best......

when i watch the pv... i feel like she is singing as if she were a peice of meat.. and then it becomes un-uncomfortable and just down right hillariousXDXD

I really liked her singles this year...hm. I LOVE "kuroge wagyuu joushio TAN-yaki 680-en" and as a matter of fact, it's the only other single from her I have besides "PLANETARIUM". I love how she starts off with "daaaaaaaaaaa isuki yo~". And, what a contrast from the original. And I totally <3 the music video. She looked/acted like a sexy temptress.

The "SMILY/BII-dama" single was okay. Every artist at least once in their career produces a double-a side with 2 contrasting songs. I liked the covers for this one. When I first heard BII-dama I hated it. Yuck. But now I love it. SMILY is fun, but not a song I can listen to everyday.

ah, "NEKO ni fuusen". I adored this song when it first came up, and was actually presented with the opportunity to buy it on several occassions to Kinokuniya. But, alas, in the end, I didn't think I really needed to get it. I heard "natsuzora" maybe twice, it doesn't really grab my attention...

hm, PLANETARIUM. I actually bought the first press in CD-only form (and like eyn, this is unopened Tongue). I really love it. And the use of the traditional instruments helped me out in my music course! (learning about Japanese music) I especially liked "drop." as well. Nice folksy rock type ish music. Sounds like FURENJA- will be in the same category.

So, I'm torn between "PLANETARIUM" and "kuroge wagyuu joushi TANyaki 680-en". Haha, go figure, the only Ai singles I've ever bought. Laughing

hmm...probabaly Neko ni Fuusen. I didn't like it at first, but then it grew on me after giving it a second chance. I still prefer the jam version of Kuroge. SMILY single wasn't the great IMO, because I pretty much hated SMILY, but however, Biidama became one of my favourite Ai song, and probably one of the few (beside Happy Days...and I don't count Cherish as upbeat) upbeat songs that I like. PLANETARIUM had a good A-side, but the B-side lacked in quality. Neko Ni Fuusen had high quality A-side and B-side.

I'd have to say SMILY! Everytime I listen to it it cheers me up so much. Meow It's just a fun and hyper song to listen to.
