What would have been better was if BoA's single was released 12/4 and Frienger was released on 5/4. I don't see any harm in trading places, and Frienger for sure would have gotten #1.
what I meant was that if BoA was released this week she might've gotten below top 5. ai's 2nd week might've beaten BoA's 1st week etc..
plus, i'm starting to wonder if avex really cares in ai getting #1. Planetarium wouldn't have gotten #1 if avex didn't switch ayu's and ai's single release dates around. and they didn't switch the dates because of ai, they switched it because of ayu cos (i) ayu's original date was too close to hikki's release and (ii) because of the movie tie-in. so i guess, unintentionally by switching the dates, ai got #1 as well.
and yeah, like I already said, avex will never put releases of their "big" artists up against each other. they're not supposed to compete with each as they are in the same company. it's like if ayu's and ai's albums were released on the same week, sure it mite be exciting etc. but it wouldnt make any sense and there really would be no point in doing it. same goes for BoA and ai.
and i'm guessing seniority counts as well? BoA's been in avex longer and she has just sold more overall, so she gets priority, just like ayu has the 1st priority in avex. |

Hm.... I'm more inclined to think Ayu isnt having first priority anymore. Koda Kumi is. >_>
But that whole Planetarium thing was pretty interesting..... I wasn't an Ai fan back then so I wouldn't know.... Planetarium did well also because it had the Hana Yori Dango tie in.... Planetarium can't not get #1..... its too good.
I don't see why Avex or any other company for that matter should see Hikki as a threat. She just isn't the same as she was a few years back evidently....
BoA has sold more overall, but I expect Otsuka Ai to surpass in the very near future. OUTGROW has barely made it past the 400k mark. |

Well, I still think it would be ayu. Like concert dates, budgets for PVs, I think ayu would get the bigger share or the 1st choice. Without ayu, avex wouldn't be what it is today.
Yeah, Hana Yori Dango did help with the overall sales, but if her 1st week of 90k was placed on her original date, she would've gotten #3. and yeah, hikki doesn't seem like she's a big threat now, but back in september, no one knew what was really coming and maybe her new album will still do really well.
ai still needs about 2m more to pass kumi/BoA in overall sales. |

| Supposedly (which I believe in as well), Ai is still a relatively new artist and she hasn't reached her real peak yet (Sakuranbo is an early peak...?) so obviously, the big players in avex would be Ayu and Koda Kumi. Still, supposing Ai consistently rises in sales and popularity, while Ayu and BoA decline, she may become the next "Ayu" in terms of how much Avex promotes her, etc. |
