tommykabby wrote: revives thread* anyone heard the new album yet? is it any good?
I heard it one day before the actual release
since i got my official retail copy day earlier..but do check out for your self that is it good, but i like.
Shortly rewied Variety or should i say Goraku
is a major step from Adult, its not even close to Adults
acid jazz tripping wild & mellow trip and its far away from Kyoikus trashy brilliant sound.
But lets not look in the past! This is a new sound mostly generated from old demos which were digged up for this album.....and they are selected carefully to produce a trip, that will wash the floors with the utterly JPOP garbage that has occured once in while.
Mostly this is a mix of alternative and pop and bunch of something else
but as said pop music doesnt always have to be bad and that is proved with Variety.
Which truly does live up to its name and shows that these guys havent changed a bit. So it's not their greatest album like when you compare it to Adult, but it works and deserves it place in their catalogue. But it does miss something, that we have been used to hear from them.
So for some people it might not be completely satisfactory walk trough to hear this CD but i personally would recommend this since, this release might be more of an momentary leap
into the realms of maintsream, then their previous releases which were not everyones thing.
Simply said..this is like an attemp to approach wider audiences without losing their credibility,
which they never have lagged. And imho without any fanboiysim they did succeed in their approach nicely. But maybe i was and i would have excpected something more then just this since something is not just there, but hopefully that will open for me in later listening sessions
I did a little preview package so
tommykabby you could decide it for your self.
I cutted the songs and combined them into two indivisual files-:
The files arent that big but still they aint small either since these were generated from lossles.
File: 1
the first package includes songs.
In this order.
復讐 - Fukushuu / Revenge
ミラーボール - Mirror Ball
某都民 - Boutomin / A Certain Tokyo Resident.
Note:
( if you listen close in the end of this you hear referense to adults Kabuki"
金魚の箱 - Kingyo no Hako / A Box of Goldfish
私生活 - Shiseikatsu / One’s Private Life
SSAW - SPRING SUMMER AUTUMN WINTER
and the second in this:
File: 2
ランプ - Ramp
黒猫道 - Kuronekodou (Kronekodow) / Black Cat Way
OSCA
月極姫 - Tsukigime-hime / Princess Monthly
酒と下戸 - Osake to Geko / Alcohol and the Non-Drinker
メトロ - Metro
キラーチューン - Killer Tune |

| I recently got into Shiina Ringo. I really love her second album. Her voice is very interesting, quite unique. |

| Awww you are too kind! That is really great thanks so much >_< I know I'm late! Anyways, would anyone happen to know where there might be orchestrations of Ringo's music? I love the orchestral stuff she does and was wondering if there was any floating around that you guys might know of? |

| Senkou Shoujo, that aired today, is a anew song by Tokyo Jihen, and will be on their DVD release Senkou Shoujo, and on the Variety Analog. I'm little bit disappointed that the song was not included on Variety, since it is another great song by Tokyo Jihen. |

;D
^^^ actually there's five versions of Stem in Shiina's discography.
Or more...i'm not even sure anymore, since she has re-arranged so much of
her discography that you can't keep full track of her movements all the time.
This is the one that is in Stem ~Daimyou Asobi Hen~
single as track two. But the single is really rare these days & sold out & (OOP)
for a long long time. But still this song is avaible through Seiteki Healing Vol. III Dvd.
And this version was the themesong for the 40-minute movie, Hyakuiro Megane, in which Shiina featured in a minor role
Then there's the version from Baishou Ecstasy Live
And then again there's Electric Mole Live version with
Tokyo Jihen.
and one from her KSKNH album. + the one from Our Last Days -Casshern OST-.but
actually the ost one, is identical to the one found on Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana expect the lyrics were sung in english. But thank's tommykabby for bringing this thread up, i mean i haven't listened this song for a long time. Out of these versions it's probably my fav too,
i just love the magical flow of the orchestration it's so smooth flowing that it makes me wonder does such arragment occur only once, and is it here? Has that old classical sound to it..but still it's like out of this whole universe.
...oh btw
and there's probably atleast more live perfomance versions of this song too done by
Tokyo Jihen..but unfortunately they have never played it on any recorded perfomances.
And i Just realised they havent updated much of what are they into now, after variety drop out on streets..it's been quite low-profile as we speak
heh im eager always for new stuff from them. Maybe, i'm true obsessed fan?
well maybe but it doesnt hurt no one. ...ehem or if i think harder...maybe it does hurt my bank account a little just a little sometimes xD |

| XD Thats crazy how many there are! I'm actually not so much into Tokyo Jihen, I tried to download Adult once, but it never worked -____- I heard that it is really jazzy, which I would die for XD Jazz and Shiina Ringo just seem to go together so well. The classical element in her music is what makes me think she is the best there can be. |

å_O¨
i can't be sure anymore, but those are the ones im aware of.
so i guess we could say countless then ;D, ..probably she has some demo versions too stashed somewhere.
Oh, you tried well...but never say never...
check your pm!
I had nothing else to do tonight so i ripped my own retail copy. Expect some,
bossanova themed tunes like: Keshou Naoshi some sweet lounge jazznes
(Tasogare Naki) and so on, it' imho was one the bestest albums of 2006,
wheter you liked jazz or not, and expect some orchestration too on songs called
スーパースター (Suupaa Sutaa, superstar
and 手紙 (Tegami, Letter)
which end the album. violins and stuff..and of course shiina pouring her soul out |

| I so adore the 6th track, with the piano. Its so beautiful.....I really like the first few songs as well. I wish they would have gone back to that sound, or at least Ringo went back to solo works. It makes me sad XD |

That would be yukiguni ^^^
Oh..glad that you liked the album.
It's a beautiful but sad song at the same time..well i mean if we look into the lyrics...
Ringo must have been very mad to someone when she wrote those lyrics.
But yes..i have some great ground breaking news...considering Shiina & the group!
This summer, Tokyo Jihen will be seen in at Society of the Citizens vol. 2
Which is a summer festival held in Hibiya Yagai Ongakudou,
an outdoors venue located in a tree-framed corner of Hibiya Park.
And they are doing a two day show!
On 8/23 on the stage will be Tokyo Jihen, Elephant Kashimashi, and SCOOBIE DO.
And on 8/24 it will be Tokyo Jihen, ZAZEN BOYS, and SOIL AND PIMP SESSIONS.
But that's not all on 8/15 and 8/16
Ringo Shiina and Tokyo Jihen will be performing at Rising Sun Rock Festival seperately.
Yes, Ringo and TJ, meaning two perfomances, one solo and one with the band.
And aint that great timing folks! since Ringo performed solo at the very first one
ten years ago and it's Rising Sun's 10th anniversary this year,
worth mentioning is also that this year it is also Ringo's own 10th anniversary.
And not to mension this is actually first perfomance for Tokyo Jihen in Rising Sun..
which is one the biggest Rock festivals in Japan..if not the biggest one out of that there is available. |

If only I could go to Japan... I would do anything to see Shiina, as well as JIhen! Yes, I often wonder if Shiina is possibly the greatest musician ever. Honestly, her music is so dynamic and beautiful. You can feel it, and understand the emotions even though you may not understand the language. That is true music. *loves shiina way too much* |
