So who else is a Banchan fan here? I'm excited for her new album! I hope people haven't stopped paying attention just because DAI separated! Crying I really like her new songs, I just want to hear her sing an upbeat song! Her new style is really different and takes some getting used to, but I love her the same! Love

Her every singles during DAI period,i have already heard them and it prove that it is pleasant music. But i am not still sure about 1 thing,is that without the composer now, where does she get her lyrics from now.The composer of DAI was superb. She is going solo but will it be as good as during the DAI days?i have yet to hear her newest and 1st album so i will be looking forward to this album of hers. The voice will be the same and i hope that the effect will be as good as before. No offece if i say anything wrong.I am listening to DAI music almost everyday with the Do The A-Side Disc which included all her singles song.No way i am forgeting her even if DAI disbanded.

Glad to hear! Smile Actually...Ban-chan, Ryo, and a couple other people wrote most of the lyrics for DAI. To be more specific, Ban-chan wrote the lyrics for Shinjitsu no Uta, Hi no Ataru Sakamichi, etc. and those songs are really great! Wink Ryo wrote songs like Honjitsu wa Seiten Nari, For the future, and TAO. I think Ban-chan is a great lyricist! (Songs from Deep Forest and before were songs by Nagao Dai, mostly). I think Ban-chan can do well on her own if she wrote such good lyrics before. It's just her style. Smile

i luv van, but i doubt she will succeed as a solo artist - D.A.I. wasn't exactly doing great towards the end, and alone, i don't think she would hav much of a shot with the industry saturated with so many female artists anyways

^ I agree.. All these super famous pop stars like Koda, Ayumi, Namie etc... No one will really see Van as something new and interesting... BUT I do hope she does well, who knows, she could make it.

Thanks to yuubae for making this awesome official thread. Smile

I don't really agree with what Evil_tomba said. Sure enough, DAI isn't at their peak when they announce their disband news, but Ban-chan is definitely a good singer and her vocal rocks. I really like how she turn towards more jazzy and soft music compare to those rock songs she did during the DAI era. It's quite a huge change in terms of singing style and I think she pull it out really well.

Regarding if she should continue her singing career, I believe It's really not about whether the industry is saturated with female artists already or not, Ban-chan might just enjoy singing and decided to continue such a career even after DAI disbanded. Are you saying she should give up her dream as a singer just because the industry is already saturated? I don't think so. I really hope more people will give credit to artist for what they did because they really put effort into their career. It's not because an artist is popular that makes her great, it's the passion about singing and personalities.

but mika also started out with the jazzy and soft music feel, and she failed to sale much until she changed to the rocker style (glamourous sky), and when she returned to the jazzy feel (cry no more), it did terrible again!

its not that i don't want van to succeed (and i do cause i loved and still do love D.A.I.), and van is a good singer, but shes not the best, and although her vocals are quite different than all the other ones out there, its not enough to succeed in the market right now. Also, i don't think Avex is promoting her enough - i surf the web and jpop sites all the time, but i didn't hear about van's new album until this thread. i often find her music on other forums, and i guess that helps, but i doubt many ppl who visit those forums visit to be introuduced to a new artist, but just to download

sure DAI wasn't at its best when they disband, but that definitly gave ban-chan exposure. it wasn't after DAI's disband news that i took an interest in them. and i'm pretty sure i wouldn't have care about tomikn solo debut either, if i didn't know about DAI's disband.

i think what separates tomiko and mika is that tomiko had DAI to start with. mika came in as a new artist and no one really expected anything from her. for tomiko, fans will always compare to her DAI style. i think it's because of this interest in her new style, tomiko will be able to draw in new and old DAI fans.

and as i mention earlier, so far i'm loving what i'm hearing from tomiko. and her debut album looks promising. i don't think tomiko will be as successful as ayu or kumi, but i do believe she'll be successful as a solo artist.

lol - u got interested in the very end
D.A.I.'s disband did get a lot of publicity, but i doubt it would have as much of an impact on other ppl who haev never known D.A.I. (there isn;t much anyways Tongue) other than u and a selected few

the thing is, i think van will only be popular in a cult-sense type of thing. people who loved her be4 will continue to adore her, but i don't believe she will find many new fans (and i exaggerate many)

Yeah, Ban-chan's style is more jazzy and mellow and different from DAI days, but her new songs are amazing and different from Mika's jazzy stuff. Plus, Ban-chan is amazing at these types of songs. Just look at Hi no Ataru Sakamichi, a DAI song. Besides it being a DAI song, she wrote the lyrics for it, and if you look here at their Supporter Selection album, people still love those types of songs (Hi no Ataru Sakamichi is track #2).

Sorry, I hope I didn't confuse anyone there. What I'm trying to say is that Ban-chan might not strike it huge like Hikki or Ayu, but I don't think people will shy away from her now because of her smooth solo tunes. She gained a lot of fans while in DAI. She's not promoted as much as, say, Mika (sadly...) so it's hard to compare the two. We'll just wait and see how her album does at the end of the month! Smile Either way, I love Ban-chan's solo stuff so far, and I'll keep supporting her. Smile I'm so happy people here like her, too!
