So now that the pv has been aired and uploaded, I'm sure most of you have watched this pv and listened to the song. Personally I've found this song really addictive and fun. I'm pleased that Ai has managed to release a song which carries her trademark style and yet it doesn't sound recycled.
The pv is so and so. I was expecting a little more since it's been a while since Ai has released anything but it's quite enjoyable. I've enjoyed the whole bike scene because it was pretty funny to see Ai trying to catch up with the other bikers and her facial expressions. What I didn't enjoy was how she didn't seem to interact so much with the people in the background. She just sang while people went on with their lives. Looked odd to me. However the setting was carefully done and created a really warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Those coloured fighters looked really similar to power rangers which was quite amusing. Ai looked pretty cute and tomboyish with short hair and those small earrings though I also miss her long hair.
What are your conclusions and thoughts with regards to this video?
For anyone who's interested here are some screencaps |

Summary of the PV (warning for HilaryDuffFanboy, SoS and other fans that prefer watching PVs on DVD):
The start of PV is quite amusing, especially for those who understand the Chinese language or Japanese. Bascially, it starts with a plane in the sky than it immediately switches to a bike rental shop. The owner hands Ai a key and said “Alright, here’s the bike. Please fill up the fuel when you return, Okay?” Ai smiles, nods and replies, “Okay! Okay!” You kind of get the hint there that she doesn’t really have a clue as to what the owner had just said. Then the owner said “Be careful, bye!” Ai gets on the bike and finally the music starts up.
The scenes then switches between: Ai driving the bike on the road, a bowling alley, a shop that sell tradition Chinese clothing, and at home where a couple is having a fight (literally). Every once in awhile, we see these colour bike helmets with the letter ‘F’ on it.
Toward the end, things start to speed up. All the previous scenes, and some new ones, are put back to back like a cube. The cube keeps rotating in various directions, showing the different scenes. Eventually, we see people dress in colour track suits and putting on those helmets with ‘F’ on it. Shortly after, you see these people riding along with Ai.
This MTV version is not the full length PV. It's 2:53 long, while the radio rip song was 3:47 long. So like other PV (Happy Days, SMILY, PLANETARIUM, etc.) Avex is only showing us parts of the PV and probably saving the whole PV for the CD+DVD.
Thoughts:
It's sort of Ai's tradition to release a happy summer song around this time of the year. I've heard the radio rip version of Frienger a couple of times, and it was starting to grow on me. But I didn't find it as attractive as Happy Days or SMILY. I thought if there's one thing that can change my mind about this song, it's the PV. I didn't know what to expect of the PV, but I knew it would be good. And it is!
To me, the PV is like a mix of Sakuranbo, Happy Days, and SMILY. Sakuranbo, because of the bikes. In Happy Days, most of the time Ai is just moving around and singing. Little movements (like when Ai winks) kept the PV moving. In SMILY, the scenes move very fast and that help keep the viewer's attention. Plus, there are some really funny scenes!
There are certainly funny scenes in this PV (like the start) and it moves very fast. Of course, there are times when Ai stand still and very sweetly move around with her arms.
What really impress me was the concept of the PV, it matches the song really well. It resembles some of her old work, but yet, so different!
edit: corrected the translation part to the introduction |

| Overall, I like this PV very much but I found 2 slight flaws in the PV. Firstly, when Ai is traveling down the street on the scooter, you could at both bottom corners of the screen some sort of wheels. I believe it is the wheels of the equipment that Ai's scooter is fixed to that attached the scooter to the moving vehicle that house the camera. Secondly, part of the bikers that followed behind Ai is CG as at 01.58 when the screen shifted up to another screen, you could see that the bikers at the far back disappearing. But, I really like the different scenes in the PV, especially the husband and wife quarrelling scene. Anyone had any idea the brand of the shirt that Ai wore? |

My thoughts about this pv is simple as this its catchy imo,
it fits in the songs image, the pv matched my thoughts about this song when i first heard it.
Like Rinoa said pv is enjoyable. gives you that warm happy summer feeling when you watch it. and the driving around city with bike is nice add to there + Ai-chin looked cuter then ever
Overall pv is awesome. So it managed to keep up with the song so... i gotta agree with Aprilis the consept is that point what maked this pv enjoyable of course Ai-chin did 2 |

in my opinion, ai is more cute and beautiful than before of course~~
some of the shots are quite cheerful too
but the scenery is not good enough and does not match the song
moreover, ai simply standing in the front to sing is quite boring
anyway, i would say, it is quite good at all |

OMG!!! I've been a naughty boy and downloaded the PV and watched it before I watched it on a purchased DVD. I couldn't control myself... It's been soooooo long!!!!!!
ANYWAY
I chose "Definitely. It complimented the song" out of sheer fanboyism. The PV wasn't what I expected, but it was soooo cute and funny. And watching Otsuka Ai speak chinese at the start was so funny.... It's so off.. but she gets away with anything coz she's Otsuka Ai! She appears so lost and "ditzy" at the start, it's so funny.
I agree with some people who said Otsuka Ai doesn't blend with the scenes that well.... It's obvious in some parts she was just put on top of the background scene...
But anyway, I really would have liked to see her literally stuff herself with Milk Bread and Chocolate Pie and stuff. xD
The Friengers are so awesome!!! Don't know where she got the idea from....
and OMG THE TOP!! I changed my MSN nick to "my goal in life is to get a top with CRAPSHOOT on it", and my friend who doesn't listen to J-Pop says to me, "You've been looking at tubgirl too much!!!!!!!" It took me a few seconds to realise what he meant. >____________________<''''''''''
But overall, a really really fun and cute PV, reminds of Sakuranbo.
She looks lovely.... even though she only wears one outfit.... |

Yup, i am totally like this song after i watch the PV.
She is so cute in the PV especially when she ride on the scooter and the opening part she say 'thank you' in mandarin.
So far i think it is the best fast song PV if compare with Happy Days, SMILY and Sakuranbo PV. |

I must first say something about the top she's wearing. Makes the PV just so much better now just need to find that top...Avex needs to hire designers with better English just like the time when Ayu wore a shirt that said "ultimate breast champion"
But I like the PV, it makes me like the song much more. The colours are vibrant, and clothes she wore made her stand out, and it's much better than Sakuranbo and Happy Days and SMILY
The last part, however, looks like a happier version of power rangers |

I just saw the PV and I think it is very funny
My favorite part (after the 5th time I watched it) is the begining I just don't have a clue what is the chineese dude says (like Ai), but the way she says "Ok, Ok" is hillarious and she looks very cute (she just can't wait to ride the bike)
I laugh a lot also at the scenes with the bike and the faces Ai makes
and Go Go Power Rangers |

"Here this is the key, now i hand them to you. When returning the car(scooter) please filled up the tank. Take care."
I think that's what the old uncle was trying to tell Ai, though i doubt she understand that.
*laughs*
Definitely another light hearted pv by Ai which suits the song perfectly.
But i was hoping for more body movement by Ai in the pv.(Happy Days, Smily)
When i saw Ai holding the chinese fan, i'm like "omg she's so cute!" Instant fanboy mode!
I think this totally clears up most of my doubts on the title, "Frienger".
Which i think most of you should have already known.
Instead of Friend + Stranger maybe its like a friend ranger, like power ranger, those who come to your aid when you're in trouble.
Very creative there if i must say. |

Well, runawayschi gave a good translation of what the uncle told Ai-chin in the intro, Aprilis.' translation is just a little bit off about the fuel part. Anyway, thanks for giving guidance to members who can't read Japanese and understand mandarin.
I'm really satisfied with the PV, it's very different from what she's been doing up till now, and the idea of shooting a PV in Taiwan is indeed very interesting. I love how they incorporated the Taiwanese culture in this movie, like the temple, boutique, scooter, 7 eleven (lol), typical Chinese house inner decoration, hawker centre etc.
The intro really blows me away when Ai-chin replied with "xiexie" (thank you) after the uncle gave her the scooter. She's just too cute that I have to keep replaying the scene for a few times. I like how muddle she looked and randomly replied "ok ok" without knowing anything. One word, kawaii!
Then the rest of PV is quite interesting with her appearing at different location, too bad all with the same outfit. As and_etude has pointed out, her top reads "CRAPSHOOT" lol, Urban Dictionary give this result:
Quote: crap shoot
Something that is random, not based on skill.
Just think it's something interesting to point out.
There's a hidden ranger in each scene, for example in the boutique we have the blue ranger; in the Chinese house we have the red ranger; in the bowling alley we have the yellow ranger. The green and pink ranger is still missing, I guess we can find that out in the full version PV. btw, I think they are probably hidden in the temple scene and the scene with changing rooms, or the scene in the hawker centre.
Okay, enough babbling, there's still something to look forward to once the full version is released. For now, I'm hoping to see the upcoming live performances of Frienger! As usual, I'll make a thread dedicated to Frienger live performance in the download forum later. |

my thoughts on Frienger:
TOTALLY AWESOME! This PV has so much in it, I can tell that the director really put a lot of thoughts into it. I'll go through what I like in point forms:
* just love ai-chan's hairstyle and the clothes she wore, matches the song really well
* the background looks interesting, the bowling place, when ai-chan rides her bike
* ai-chan's expression while riding the bike, really cute!
* the beginning where the old man talks chinese to ai-chan, really funny
* love the fan that ai-chan was holding and dancing to it
* the color rangers towards the end were awesome!
Overall:
I really enjoyed watching the PV, its just so colorful and energetic! I can't wait till the single is released and see the full version of the PV! |

Well I love the song is brilliant but I wasn't too sure about the pv.
I think thatit was missing something I'm not sure but it was. The power ranger fighters made me laugh but I didn't see much of a point for them apart from amusment purposes but still thats Ai for ya ^_^
Her clothes were nice but yes I agree I miss her old hair ALOT.
The background and scenes were interesting and the face she pulled on the bike made me laugh too. |

hahaha i liked how ai felt so down to earth in this pv haha especially what she's wearing and the way she's acting!!
i don't know why but i always tend to forget that celebrities are real people too and that they're not always that different from you and i!! and i guess i really like that about this pv!!
the song seemed to go by so quickly though! i felt like i was kind of at the edge of my seat near the end but then the MTV thing popped up and i knew the song was about to end and i was kind of sad T_T
but i guess the song might not be as affective if it were longer!
watching the pv makes me think of the drama "stand up" even more haha i'm not sure why this song makes me think of that drama...
all in all i thought the song and pv were alright! i can't say i was totally moved by it but i felt good to see and hear it!! maybe it just needs a bit more time to work on me!!! |
