I don't know who is aware of this website, but I thought everyone might like to know.
http://www.mora.jp/
On this site you can download a tons of Japanese music, song by song, and they are only 150-210-en a piece, and in some cases you can download whole albums for discounted prices like 2000-en. I dont know how or where everyone gets their japanese music, but this is a great resource, and you don't have to by the 1000-en singles or the 3000-en albums if you only want one song.
If anyone needs help navigating this website, let me know. But basically you either search for an artist (you must use the same characters that they use, so romaji if they use it or kanji if they use it or whatever) or you can browse by clicking the menu at the top with '50' in it, then you can browse by the hiragana characters.
Also I would like to know how everyone gets their music. Right now I am in Japan, so I rip songs off the PVs that I see on TV, and I have bought a few albums from Japanese Amazon, but when I come home other than this website, I am not sure how I will get music or even know what to listen to for that matter. |

| Hm..... I don't own an I-Pod, but isn't this just like I-Tunes, except you pay as you go? |

You do pay as you go with mora.jp, but its not connected with the iPOD. They are just straight downloads. Do you have to have an iPOD to use iTunes?
This is why I am asking this question. I have been gone from civilization for a really long time, and I dont really know all what's out there anymore. I cant even get the internet at my house, and at work I am blocked from a lot of websites. I want to find a good, cheap place to get Japanese music when I come home in a couple months. |

You must have an iPod to use iTunes. iTunes was set up for the purpose of purchasing music for iPod users.
I'd guess the website you have would be pretty similar to iTunes, except you download it to your computer...
Somehow, I am very interested by your current situation... "gone from civilization"? Wow.... |

Well, I'm not totally gone from civilization. I live in northern rural Japan where I can get a satellite for TV with a few channels that show 3+ year old American programs, but no internet. Surprisingly, nearly every other house in town outside of a 500 meter radius of my house can get internet. But what I use at work has been sufficient. I just can't download anything, I cant bring disks to and from this computer to mine at home, and I cant view random websites. Thankfully, I can use this one.
Living in rural Japan while working for the US govt is interesting. I have been able to sample much of japanese culture while here, but as far as trying to live in it, forget about it. It is hard to get into their society, especially in the rural areas where no body really goes out and does much of anything anyway. |
