Ok guys, since some of you mentioned the Taiwanese version of Hana Yori Dango, I thought it would be nice to have a Duel between the Japanese Hana Yori Dango and the Taiwanese Meteor Garden. Now now guys... You have to be true to yourself and vote for the better soap opera or drama as you guys call it.

To help you in your decision here are the facts on the following doramas.

Meteor Garden

Also known as: Liu Xing Hua Yuan
Episodes: 19
Broad Cast Network: CTS
Date of Release: April 21, 2001
Opening Song: Qing Fei de Yi from Harlem Yu
Ending Song: Ni Yao de Ai (The Love You Want) from Penny Tai
Producer: Chai Zhi Ping

Cast:

Barbie Xu-> Shan Cai (Makino Tsukushi)
Jerry Yan-> Dao Ming Si (Doumyouji Tsukasa)
Vic Zhou-> Hua Zhe Lei (Hanazawa Rui)
Ken Zhu-> Xi Men (Nishikado Soujirou)
Vanness Wu-> Mei Zhuo (Mimasaka Akira)

Synopsis:

Shan Cai is a Poor girl who studies in the Elite School Ying Tei University in Taiwan. There she is bullied by The F4, the sons and the heirs of the Four richest corporate executives in Taiwan. But Shan Cai shows no fear and tags the F4 a red card after receiving one herself. Shan Cai secretly falls in love with Hua Zhe Lei because he doesnt bully her and She thinks he is helping her. On the other hand she dispises Dao ming si because she thinks he is nothing but a spoiled brat. But things change when Teng Tang Jin appears, Lei's childhood sweetheart. When Lei follows Jin in Paris , things change, for Shan Cai'S Feelings towars Asi (Dao Ming Si's nickname)
develop in a positive way. Then a love triangle forms as Lei returns and when Asi's arranged sweeteheart comes back.

My Opinion:

The ending of this soap opera is a lot more dramatic than HYD'S ending. Dao Ming Si's mother is also stricter in this soap opera. Also the love triangle in this dorama seems a lot more complicated to me. I can’t tell if this dorama is closer to the Manga, I haven’t seen the manga or read it so to those who have seen the three versions, you can tell. The opening is not that bad , though I prefer Wish from Arashi. Penny Tai’s “Ni Yao de Ai” is as great as Ai-chin’s “Puranetarium”. I enjoyed watching this soap opera but the acting was not as emotional as the japanese counterpart. Also the comedy acting was a bit exaggerated for me, you can tell what part was SD in the manga. Out of ten I would give this soap opera a seven.

Hana Yori Dango

Also known as: Boys over Flowers
Episodes: 9
Broadcast Network: TBS
Date of Release:October 21, 2005
Opening Song: Wish from Arashi
Insert Song: Puranetarium (Planetarium) from Ai Otsuka
Director: Ishii Yasuharu

Cast:

Mao Inoue->Makino Tsukushi (Shan Cai)
Jun Matsumoto-> Doumyouji Tsukasa (Dao Ming Si)
Shun Oguri-> Hanazawa Rui (Hua Zhe Lei)
Shota Matsuda-> Nishikado Soujirou (Xi Men)
Tsuyoshi Abe-> Mimasaka Akira (Mei Zhuo)

Synopsis:

Tsukushi is a new student at Eitoku Gakuen - an exclusive school attended by rich families' children. Being poor, she is always bullied and sabotaged by her schoolmates. Things become worse when she crosses the path of F4 (a group comprises of the 4 richest guys). Since Hanazawa Rui has a cool quiet character, Tsukushi befriends him thinking he has helped her on purpose. When his childhood sweetheart, Shizuka Toudou, returns things start to take a change of course. When Rui followed Shizuka to Paris, Tsukushi sees Tsukasa's good side, which is the begin of her admiratiopn towards him. Tsukushi is then put under many trials because a relationship of a commoner with a Rich boy is not allowed in the society.

My Opinion:

I think Hana Yori Dango's plot was changed a little bit and was shortened so the people won't say that HYD copied everything from Meteor Garden. The cast are aware that Meteor Garden has been released before HYD. But Hana Yori Dango has something that makes it unique from Meteor Garden and that is the acting, renewed plot, and the ending. The ending of Hana Yori Dango is not that dramatic but it is indeed very romantic. (It actually made me cry). The characters made the story seem more realistic. The soundtrack is very good and both opening and insert themes have brought a lot of emotion in the drama. Out of ten I have to give this soap opera a ten!

Please make a careful choice as both dramas are really good. I hope the following info helped you guys. Hope you enjoyed the poll.

Pros - I voted the poll that the Jdrama series is more better than the Taiwanese version because it's more intense and the actors acts really good.

Cons - is that in the Jdrama one I'm not crazy character of Doumyouji Tsukasa. I like Jerry Yan better cause he's much better looking than the Japanese actor.

Anyway that's my insight for the day!

Boogie Guess I'm the only one right now voted for the Taiwan version! Here are my reasons:

* the four guys looked more like F4, probably because of the height....and I just LOVE Vic and Jerry
* the drama was longer, so more detailed was in it
* its the first verison I saw, usually I like the first version of anything....other than the second version was REALLY good...in this case, I prefer the first one
* its in mandarin, which I can understand easily

So it explains why I preferred the first one better. Tongue

I've seen Meteor garden before Hana Yori Dango too but it's the details that i didn't really like. Plus I like the japanese actors better. I think they're cuter and are a lot better in acting. But like I said I did enjoy watching the soap.

Now I've been hearing some debates about the two soap operas. Did Hana Yori Dango really copy Meteor Garden?! Or does Meteor Garden have no "right" to say that Hana Yori Dango copied them because the original version is from a japanese MANGA?!

you decide.

you can't say Hana Yori Dango (the J drama version) copied the Taiwanese Version. The meteor garden came out a lot eariler than the J drama version. Although the story line from the Jdrama and the Taiwanese version are totally different story. There are some parts that were was cut out from the Jdrama and also the Taiwanese version.

Like in the Jdrama they cut out the scene chapter called Cinderlla Night where Makino suppose to be in a boat dancing with Rui.

In the Tawianese version they cut out the part about the girl who wants revenge on Dominyji - (can't spell his name)

But to tell you the truth I think the Jdrama follow the story line more better than the Taiwanese version.

J-Drama hands down.

The Taiwanese one had some pretty shoddy acting from F4, and it just dragged on and on and on. Overall, I didn't like it that much. But overall the story was not bad... but once again, it just tends to drag on. The performances by both the mothers were great though!

The Japanese version is much more quick paced, which I like. And the actors do a really great job, especially Tsukushi Makino. It focuses more on the love triangle, and the lesser known two F4 members don't get much of their own plot, which I really didn't mind. And then of course, PLANETARIUM was an image song!!!! It made me like it even more! Laughing

I think that the mother of Dao Ming Si (Tsukasa) was a lot stricter especially in the end. The ending was more dramatic than romantic and it didn't really make me cry. No

I did wish that the other two F4 members would get more roles but then the story is not really concentrated on them, even in the manga. (I heard) The Jap version gave the F4 members more importance though. Nod

I liked the JDorama version better--mainly because it has Matsuda Shota in it. And I liked the actors/actresses better. I think in height comparison, the cast of Meteor Garden is way to tall compared to the main actress; and Hana Yori Dango is more believable.

I have heard before that Meteor Garden is also a book and the director based part of it on that and part on Hana Yori Dango, I am not sure though.

But the JDorama definitely did not copy it. It was a manga, anyways, except the Taiwan cast decided on making it first.

That'S exactly what i wanted to say.... the fact that the manga was JAPANESE still makes it a JAPANESE story even if meteor gadne decided doing it first. But the people still say that they did it first and they had the rights to do it so Hana yori dango copied meteor garden. Open your eyes. Even if meteor garden bought the rights it is still a JAPANESE manga and thus a JAPANESE story. Nod

From what I've seen, it's harder to compare. The Japanese version stayed more true to the manga. The Tawainese version changed a lot of things and kinda warped to their own style, and doesn't really feel like Hana yori Dango anymore...I like both of them in their own ways Tongue

But I can understand the taiwanese version better because I speak mandarin, but I enjoy both versions equally. Nod

I thought The Taiwanese version was closer to the manga because it had more details and some parts were erased of the Japanese version. Well I never read the manga so I have to believ in You. Giggle

The manga isn't here in Germany yet and I don't know if it will ever come because the manga is quite "old". Crying

I think That Dao Ming Si's face looks tougher and is really fit for the "Tsukasa Role".But Matsu -Jun did good in acting to make up for his cutie pie face cause he doesnt really look mean at all. Love

So I haven't posted my opinion in this thread eh? Tongue I've watched both Meteor Garden and Hana Yori Dango, and I think I prefer the Japanese version more, simply because the pace is faster in Japanese dorama and the Taiwanese version just keep dragging and dragging, sort of. If you're a hardcore J-Dorama fan, you probably won't enjoy the sluggishness of Taiwanese drama plot.

However, I definitely prefer the Taiwanese F4 when compared to the Japanese ones. I do not base my judge on which of them are more similar compared to the original manga, in this case I believe the Japanese character has a closer resemblance to their manga counterpart, but simply because the Taiwanese F4 looks more special to me, each of them have their distinct appearance. For Tsukushi, Inoue Mao wins hands down. Wink

I think that's my opinion. For those of you who watched Meteor Garden II, doesn't it suck? It's just totally redundant for them to make a sequel and it just ruins everything. No

The taiwanese version was really quite long and there were parts in the taiwanese version which really annoyed me... In some parts it seemed like Shan Cai couldn't decide for herself what she really wants.

In the F4 i only liked the guy who played tsukasa (Jerry Yan)... he really did good. I prefer the Japanese F4 even if the taiwanese F4 looks were closer to the manga.

But I still Think Hana Yori Dango did not Copy Meteor Garden. Love

And Meteor Garden 2 does suck though i wish there is a part 2 for Hana. Love

Well, they can't "copy" off each other because they're both based off the same source. So there's no definition of "copy". The J-version remained more faithful, while the Meteor Garden wandered to a story of its own(and why it's so long), and became another thing altogether. Tsukushi in Meteor Garden was wimpier, cried a lot more.

I actually sort of want to see MGII, just to see how bad it is. My friend told me it was bad, and from everyone's remarks, it doesn't look too good. From what I know it almost strayed completely from the manga...
