Why is it romanized "Iwo jima" in america, when the japanese romanize it "Iou jima" (because thats how you pronounce ) |

| I'm not sure. But during the weekend I went shopping with some of my friends, and we were bored so we just dropped by a movie theatre to see what they had and they had letters of Iwo Jima! But I don't like war movies, and I don't think they do either or do they want to watch a movie all because the guy in their is from a band I like, lol, that they probably don't even know. But yeah... it was exciting for me to see that it's in theatres around here already. (Well, obviously I don't think it'll come to my lame town, and that theatre was like one of those individual ones not like the chain ones, I think, since it wasn't very big) |

Lol, it's more like Shota grew his hair!
I hate the new hair styles for all of them!!
I mean... like Oguri Shun's is OK... but I still liked it before (it's his hair is flatter now)... and Abe Tsuyoshi's is a bit too curly for my taste... and I never liked Jun's... but Shota!! WHYYY. Lol, I know that they made their looks further based on the manga for this season, but I think season one's fit like... the way real people look better... what I mean is, the manga's hairstyles look great for drawings, but season one's hair looks better when for real people... yeah it's confusing, lol...
OK I didn't even talk about Arashi in this post... |

I have a song for all of them:
このごろムカつく女の子
おつむの軽い女の子
こっちへおいてよ ハニー
だってなんだか
ちょっとうざいだもん
お願い お願い でしゃばらないで
私のハートは苛々しちゃうの!
イヤよ イヤよ イヤよ 隠れちゃ イヤー
スカーレットフラッシュ!
懲らすわよ! |

Well just the looks... Sho looks like a player but he isn't of course. He remains loyal to nish just like Ohno does to tsumetai.ame . |

Sorry this is a bit late...
Tatsuka Ito wrote: Why is it romanized "Iwo jima" in america, when the japanese romanize it "Iou jima" (because thats how you pronounce ) Well, in Japanese (as we know) even the lone vowels (i.e. those without an accompanying consonant) constitute a whole syllable.
In order to preserve the integrity of the 'i' and long 'o' ('ou') sounds, people chose to romanize 硫黄(いおう)as 'iwo'.
For many native-English-speakers, applying rules/conventions of English pronunciation, 'iou' would end up sounding more like 'eeyoh' or even 'yoh' (with a *hint* of an 'ee' sound going into the 'y', followed by a longish 'o' ending). The 'i' would be absorbed into the next sound, instead of standing in front.
Granted, a by-product of the change in romanization is people putting a lot of stress on the 'w', but even with that, it sounds closer to the real Japanese than what's outlined above...
Hope this makes sense.
P.S. Letters... just won Best Foreign Language Picture at the Golden Globes... |
