I made an international forum for J-Pop, so it has things for Ai. I don't know if it's right to post it here, cause it's not only for Ai. Forums name is planetarium, named by Ai's single. Everybody in here are welcomed to join it. Beware: the forum does not have any download links, cause that forum doesn't support illegal downloads. I'm the admin of it. Site's address is:

Wow. People actually don't like my forum? I was just thinking cause there are only 11 members (and it's been running for a month almost) and in past days (almost two weeks?) no-one except me (well Sazu-Kun two times) have posted anything. This really makes me think that does my forum actually suck so hard?
What do you think? We would want new members, please everyone that's interested join. Hopefully eyn will not kill me for commericialing my forum. I have an drawing contest in the process now. No entrys... Maybe because of the stinking prize?
Maybe it's because I can't make an layout? It's true, I have NO-IDEA of how to make an layout. Boy, I'm really jelous to eyn. Please! Someone help me if you have a clue. Cause I have two proper ideas of layouts in my head, I just can't make them come true.
Like you see, I'm desperate for some help. I can't make anything myself, I'm such a loser. I couldn't even make my LiveJournal thing work (thanks eyn for helping me anyway)... So I'm begging, if anyone can make an layout (not asking eyn, his too busy for these things, and no one in here wants nothing bad to our nice Admin  ) please help me!! |

Umm it takes A LOT to run a successful forum, and of course also a lot to promote a new forum. Knowing how to make attractive layouts would be a great help... There are so many forums on the web these days, it's hard to tell people to come to yours. I think Channel-Ai is a success not only because Eyn knows many many things and is hardworking, but also Ai is a relatively new artist and channel-ai is one of the biggest/earliest/prettiest that focuses on her.
There is A LOT that needs to be done to your forum, really. You need to first come up with something that would make your forum unique... IF it's just a jpop forum, who's gonna go? Will you go to a tiny forum that's just starting out instead of a big forum where you can find everything you need when you look for jpop? Probably not. So you need to come up with something that will attract members.
Secondly, I think your forum name is way to long. People would not remeber it and it gives a bad impression almost. When I look at Channel-Ai.Com, I immediately feel that it's a big and devoted forum because it stands on its own domain. If you really want to start a forum, maybe you should get a domain first.
Knowing graphics and coding/php is also a very nice thing because usually the admin does everything... Until the forum is all big and there are a lot of moderators and members willing to help. But you need to know your internet/web stuff in order to run a community on the internet. Because if members come up with a suggestion, or an error pops up, you're likely the one to fix it.
Good content also helps.. You should try to get News or downloads that will interest people. So far you only posts about single/album releases... I don't think anyone needs to join any forum to keep up with those news. I also think your forum topic is too big for you to handle if you're just starting out. There are usually TONS going on in the jpop world, look at any big jpop forum and you'll see. A huge topic like jpop takes A LOT to maintain... I don't think most people would join a forum that would never have any downloads either. Sad thing to say but it's almost a crucial part of a music forum. People will of course choose the forums with downloads over yours.
I think you should really think about those things and make changes~ A nice layout is super important too. It is a lot of work, a jpop forum would be even more work than an Otsuka Ai forum, so you should be prepared to be VERY devoted if that's what you want to create. I hope those helped. |

Thanks. I'm working on the layout right now... Also I'm thinking of buying an forum hosting. Cause they are much better than thes free forums.
My forum is an free forum (it didn't cost anything to me) so ofcourse I can't make any nice changes.. I finaly got the thing how to make layouts, now the only problem is that how in the name of heaven am I going to get it there?! I look from phpBB but it is NO help. If anyone knows, please tell me.
The thing about buying an forum hosting, was that then I would do an forum for some other artist than Ai or Ayu (they already have great forums). Somebody like BoA? Cause I haven't seen a forum for her.
And about the thing of news and downloads. There will never be downloads (if their illegal) on my forum, cause I don't support it! Then news.... I don't find any other news then Singles and Albums. My computer doesn't even show japanese characters... Theres an contest on my forum but not a good one apparently. I'm really doing all that I can to make it a better place, but I'm really busy now. I got a lot of exams...

| Hehe don't worry. I don't think illegal downloads are bad. They promote the artist very well actually. I would never buy a cd that I haven't already listen to or love.. Even if i can't find the download for it. I only buy cds because i downloaded the songs and I love the artist and the songs, i want to keep a nice and cute, legal, copy. |

You shouldn't focus on one artist (example, BoA) just because there doesn't seem to be a forum for them. Focus on an artist because you like them, and want to let other know about this artist.
If you really feel so strong about download, you should remove that section. Don't put it up just to get more members. Like caffeinated said, you should do something that will make you forum standout. For example, you can create mini gallery for various J-pop artists that feature high quality or rare pictures of that artist.
If you want more members, you should do more pomotion in big forums (like AHS) or on the artist's page on wiki. Give people a reason to join and return to the forum by providing information about the artists and interesting forum topics.
About reading Japanese character on your computer, you can always download the require software to read those characters. If you use windows, you can easily get it from the windows update site. |

Thanks again for good advices. I have already promoted my forum in Wikipedia (Finnish and English J-Pop sections). I should promote it on AHS. Big time XD

I do like BoA. That's why she was the first one to come to my mind. I have almost made 4 BoA-layouts, with a great help from Kia. They have my forums name on them... If I just could find an free forum hosting site that does have the FTP thing, so that I could download my layouts there.
Still that I don't like illegal downloads, I agree with caffeinated. It's good to preview the album first, so that you don't buy it for nothing. So the download-forums can stay.
Does anyone recommend some forum hosting-thingy? |
