First of all, happy birthday to Channel-Ai, the little website I started exactly a year ago. It's kinda amazing when you look back and see how much it has grown and how much I've learnt during the process of maintaining and expanding the site. I guess it's all good experience and I hope Channel-Ai can grow even more this year. Nod

Here, I'll do a little timeline thingy for Channel-Ai during the past year:

2005.04.12
I purchased a year of hosting via a deal introduced to me by a1strank. Thanks to him or I wouldn't have made this site a year ago. Smile He's also the 2nd member who joined this forum as you can see in the memberlist.

2005.04.13
I installed phpBB and made some changes here and there to prepare for the site opening. This is my first time dealing with phpBB and paid hosting so I'm actually learning while doing all these stuff by myself. It's pretty fun to be honest.

2005.04.15
I made most of the changes I see fit and I posted a promotion topic at AHS forum, my very first promotion to get people to join this site. Rinoa, our current top poster and Channel-Ai blog editor, joined on this day! Her early participation really means a lot to me since this forum was still in its infancy i.e. rather empty.

2005.04.19
As suggested by Rinoa, Channel-Ai gallery was launched only 1 day after her suggestion!

2005.05.14
The VIP system was first introduced together with Channel-Ai episodes download. The VIP system started as posting based but it was later changed to manual inclusion due to spamming by greedy newbies.

2005.05.21
Ai's Translation forum section added to help members to learn Japanese and to understand Ai's lyrics better.

2005.06.10
The very first custom modified forum style, SMILY, was released. The initial response was overall quite good, which gave me the motivation to work on the 2nd forum style, Bidama. The Bidama style was released only 10 days after the release of SMILY. From the poll result, it's not hard to see that most people doesn't enjoy SMILY style that much.

2005.06.28
I was about to leave the forum for 2 weeks to attend my brother's graduation in England. I made Jason, my high school buddy, a co-admin to administer Channel-Ai while I'm away. This is the first time I'm leaving the forum for such a long period of time and I'm glad Jason was there to help me out during this period. Thanks to him, everything was in good order while I'm away for holidays.

2005.07.30
YesAsia associate link added. For every purchase you made at YesAsia using the associate link, 10% of your spending will be donated to Channel-Ai as funding for the hosting and contest prizes. Special thanks to SoS, Aprilis, mrc, zyzzyva and others who constantly uses the associate link. For those of you who are curious about how much commission the associate link is generating, I will post a report on associate link earning later.

2005.08.09
RSS feature was added to Channel-Ai forum. While not many people are using this feature even till this day, I have to say this is a very useful feature especially when you're not using your own computer and wanted to check the latest update on Channel-Ai. This can be easily done using web-based RSS readers such as Bloglines. I'm in the process of writing a tutorial to teach you guys how to make us of RSS feature, expect a complete tutorial be ready during the summer holidays.

2005.08.25
The Channel-Ai Community Blog project was announced and volunteers were seek. It started as an experimental project but so far everything works great and we are gaining popularity among the Japanese music blogosphere. The first few talented bloggers that were recruited are: Jason, Rinoa, spellcheck, broken::dreams, Lainay and spirus. Recently two more writers has joined the McBlog family and they might have their articles published soon. Do remember to check out the blog to find out who they are!

2005.09.21
Channel-Ai's first contest ever, the banner contest, has its voting held on this day. The contest was overall quite successful despite the fact that only 25 members voted. Mokyomi won the contest with her emotion banner, which was later made into a new theme with the same name.

2005.10.07
Channel-Ai last.fm group was made and announced. So far we have 62 members, quite a few of them appear on last.fm's Ai-chin's top fan list. last.fm offers statistics for your listening habits and it's a good site to know what artists are other Channel-Ai members listening to.

2005.12.24
Chat feature was implemented. At first the response are quite positive and a few members actually get addicted to this new feature but eventually, the excitement cool down and nobody goes into the chat room now anymore...

2006.01.12

2006.02.04
The voting process for Channel-Ai Karaoke Contest '06 (aka Channel-Ai-dol '06) started. The response of the poll, to be honest, was very bad and I was very dissapointed with the lack of community spirit of many members. There were about 2500 members by then but only a very tiny fraction of them voted. Something was indeed very wrong and this is not the forum that I wanted to create.

2006.02.12
The forum was closed because some leechers think they deserve everything in the world. I'm very dissapointed with the situation in the forum and decided a reconstruction to remove the pests of this site is necessary. A lot of hate mail start pouring into my email during this period, some demanded Channel-Ai was not entertaining enough, others were even more absurb. It was indeed a harsh week to deal with those people but I've learnt how to ignore them and move on to create a forum I wanted to create - a small and tightly-knitted community, not a hugely popular but soulless leeching hub.

2006.02.18
Channel-Ai was reopened with quite a few changes made, such as the introduction of usergroups and the removal of download forum from guest and non-regular members. A new gallery was also introduced. Channel-Ai's visitors count start to go downhill from this point onward, most likely due to my decision to sever ties with all leechers.

2006.02.25
The first ever Channel-Ai-dol '06 has finally concluded. ch3rrie has won the title with "Planetairum" while Lainay comes in a close 2nd with "Kingyo Hanabi".

2006.04.13
Channel-Ai's first anniversary (aka Channel-Ai-nniversary) is celebrated. "Birthday Song" was autoplayed when you log into the forum. Hopefully everyone has a great day on this special day! For those of you who are having your exam period, good luck on all the exams!

Phew, I'm finally done! This is actually my 2nd attempt to summarize the whole year, since my first attempt was "lost" because of Firefox crashing, which almost drive my crazy. So now, I'll conclude this posting with some pretty graphs for those of you who think this posting has been really boring up to this point.

Here's a Channel-Ai traffic graph for the forum only, starting from April 17th, ends today:

The first peak (051119 - 12,742 pageview) is when someone posted a torrent for Kimi iro Omoi at jpopsuki tracker with a link to the forum, the 2nd peak (060211 - 12,499 pageview) is when I sent out the forum wide email warning about the closure of the site if nobody votes in the Karaoke contest thread.

So far, the forum has 1,755,714 pageviews and 216,517 unique visitors, on average it's about 4,645 pageloads and 573 unique visitors per day.

And here's some graph generated by Google Analytics:

Channel-Ai currently ranks 49,793 on the world wide website popularity chart generated by alexa.

I still remember, before eyn start channel-ai, he was asking me about whether should do this or not, I told him otsukai ai was not that famous, so it may not have members join us. I am glad he didn't listen to me as he wanted to give it a try, and now we have over 2 thousands members, although not all of them are active in channel-ai, but it still prove channel-ai rocks the world.

Thanks to eyn's contribution to this forum, time flash really fast and now we have our first aniversarry. Just hope I able to help you whatever I can, channel-ai forever!

Wow..this forum has gone through many things in the year, huh? I really liked the pink media player that popped up when I came here..it surprised me! I usually never stay in forums for too long, because I'm mostly busy with other things..so this is the first forum I ever stayed in and really participated in... And looking back at everything that has happened here..it makes me proud to be part of Channel-Ai! Giggle
Thanks, eyn for all your hard work and dedication to this site..and all the other members who make it fun to be here all the time...It's also very interesting, because there are so many people here who are from different places in the world... Anyway, I hope to stay with this forum until the very end. Thanks again, eyn and everyone for keeping this place alive!

HAPPY 1ST CHANNEL-AI-NNIVERSARY! Boogie

I've only been here about a month but I'll definitely stick around.

It's always good to see a website that's looked after and cared for. There's too many websites and forums that people make and then just leave because they can't be bothered to put in the time and effort.

So happy birthday to Channel-Ai! May it live long and prosper! (sorry Tongue )

oh and I loved how Happy Birthday played when I loaded up the site. It put a big smile on my face.

Aww, I'm so happy I'm a member of Channel-Ai. Love

I've only been here since the middle of the summer, but I've loved every moment of it. I remember the time right after I joined, when I'd wake up in the morning, turn on my computer, and go straight to Channel-Ai and read new posts. Good times!

It's interesting to see how the forum has grown; no, the site as a whole has grown. When you think of the state of Channel-Ai all together at the moment, it is what it is, but after eyn laid it out clearly for us, it's so awesome to see how all the little parts, even the ones that are often overlooked, came together to form it as one big community. Things like the Gallery, the McBlog, all the little forum styles that eyn has slacked off when he should have been studying to create, the new sections that have been added, even the chat room. Even though the chat room is normally empty, it's still really fun when we can get a few people in there. Sometimes it's just a little hard during the week because there aren't a lot of people online at once, and with only one or two people in the chat it's not very fun, haha.[/ramble]

Well, in short, Channel-Ai is the best forum ever! *Undying love for Chai*

Maybe I'll invite Akamori over later this weekend and we'll bake a cake and decorate it! If we do, I'll certainly take pictures and post them here for everyone! Boogie

OMG YAY! I got online! YAAAAAAAY!!!

I don't wanna get emotional and sappy. I really don't, on a count of I don't have a kleenex next to me. Oh forget that... I've got paper towels.

*blows nose really hard*

Y'all... ROCK. V_V Do you know that? *sniff* I've been around here for almost a year, and I can't say how much Channel-Ai has changed my life. I really really can't.

Let's start with eyn. Everything is because of him, our very own geekmaster, isn't it? Yes it is. If not for his uber awesomeness *worships him*, we would not have this place. I want to take this moment *sniff* to tell eyn how much everybody appreciates his hard work, effort, and for just being such an awesome d00d. Giggle

I've met so many wonderful people here. First of all, I want to mention the McBlog team. We've had many wonderfully entertaining MSN conversations that I will never ever forget. Unfortunately, our online times don't work that well anymore, but it's still so great to know that I have such great friends that I can rely on always being there to here me complain about high school.Smile

Of course, there's life outside my McBlogging realm. The other forum goers ROCK. I can't name people (waaaaaaaaay too many to list), but y'all are great friends too! ^_________________^! Everyone is so kind, which makes for awesome forum discussions. Sure, Channel-Ai has awesome forum layouts and whatnot, but it really comes down to all the awesome members.

In conclusion, HAPPY AI-NNIVERSARY, CH-AI! I love you. And I always will.

*sniffles*

Answer to the poll:
Because Ai-chin rocks! No doubt about that! Beside, this is a place where Ai fans gather to admire Ai's work.
Because the people here rocks! One of the best community, ever. And it's thanks to all the members here!
Because the forum style rocks! What other forum comes out with a new style every few months? And the themes has a large range of style.
Because I'm bored! I love coming here when I take a break from studying. It's so colourful and full of life (well, sort of) unlike my dull text book that's just full of black ink words Blank stare
And to conclude, I can't really answer the poll. The 'above all' option is missing!

spellcheck is right, it's interesting to see how the forum grown on it's own and as a community. I wasn't here from the start, but still. Reading the timeline, it was like the highschool graduation I never had. Reading each event, I'm learning about things I didn't know before (events piror to when I joined). And reading the events that I did experienced, it brings back memories of the detials and how it all happened.

I like the size of our "small" community. When I see a new topic or post, I know it's worth reading. I know the topic wasn't created because someone was demanding attention and spamming just to get post number. Of course, occasionally these things do happen. But when it does, our great admin eyn takes care of it asap.

And this leads to eyn. How can I ever thank you enough for creating this community and spending so much time keeping it in order? In your busy school life, you still managed to check up on channel-ai. Your dedication to the forum it's just amazing. So thank you. Thank you for everything you have done to keep the channel-ai community together for the past year.

A community wouldn't be a community without members, ne? To all the members, especially the regular members that keep this community alive: Thank you, you people are awesome. The blog, downloads, comments, thoughts, the debates, none of it could have been possible without you all. Thank you.

And finally, a happy happy Channel-Ai-nniversary! Looking forward to the many other Channel-Ai-nniversaries to come!

Wow that's such a well-done and detailed summary! Boogie I wasn't here in the begining so I just learned a lot about Channel-Ai~ I'm sure the next year will be even more awsome, with leecher problem controlled and such~ It's so nice to see despite its size Channel-Ai is so closely moderated. Manycelebrity forums are just for downloads/leechers and immature members posting useless threads and spam-ish posts. Channel-Ai/Eyn is doing such a good job at creating an Ai community instead of a download swamp. Nod

And of course we need to shower Eyn with thanks for making this possible for all of us. Love Love Love

First, I want to say that I use RSS all the time (although you already know that =P) BUT this topic isn't shown on my RSS and I was looking to see if you posted this and I thought you didn't. Then I saw from spellcheck's post down and got confused. Grr.

Well, anyways, I'm happy you did this. It was all worth the re-write, wasn't it? Tongue What an awesome timeline. Very interesting to read the history of Chai. Crying But how do you remember the dates? Shocked

eyn rocks, Chai rocks, the McBlog team rocks, and everyone who visits here rocks. This is such a happy moment. Crying I made really awesome friends on Chai...I love you all. *tear, sniff* And to think, it all started when a geek decided to spread the love for Ai. Laughing

I think I'll make a Chai-nniversary set when I have time so the title of n00b will be stricken from me. =P

What amazed me the most was the map of the locations of members here... This is one of the most international fanbases and forums I've ever seen! European and American fans are almost equal. Cool! Giggle

Happy Birthday, Channel-Ai, and many more! I easily decided I wanted to join this forum the first time I saw it. The people here seem very willing to discuss. Smile
