Hi all.
I was thinking about this recently and thought I'd see what other members on ch-ai thought. As the topic of this thread suggests, I was wondering what was the definitive Otsuka Ai moment for everyone here; allow me to explain.
1. Your definitve "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment.
This would be the moment when you perhaps after first hearing her, or hearing her for the second, third or twenty seventh time, suddenly noticed that you actually like her music. A perticular song perhaps, or a perticular performance, or a CM, or a drama OST insert.
2. Your definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
This would be the moment when for the first time you said to yourself: "Wow! I really love this artist !!"
So why don't you guys think back to when you had those moments and post them here. I think that they might be interesting to read about. And if possible perhaps post YouTube links (if they were performances or pvs). Here are mine:
----------
1. My definitive "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment:
Around Aug/Sep 2004, Otsuka Ai was on the TV Asahi variety tv-show Music Station performing Kingyou Hanabi. On the show, she played the piano and sang the song. It was beautiful. That was the first time that I took notice of her. "Wow, she's pretty, can sing, great song, plus she plays the piano!" I at once made a note of her and decided I'll keep an eye out for her. Soon I was downloading her music off the net and intently watching her perform on MS and other shows.
2. My definitve "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
Later that year, when "Daisuki da yo" came out, I downloaded it along with her "Love PUNCH" and LOVE JAM albums. Listening to those albums all the time over the next few weeks, I knew that she was now my new favourite Japanese artist, especially because of songs like Amaenbo, Shabondama and Friends. But I think it was the PV for Amaenbo which I saw for the first time around early 2005, especially the part where she smiles, and then runs and jumps into that arms of the guy... instantly, I was like: Oh crap, I'm in love with her I'm always jealous of that guy in the PV
The second of those "I love Otsuka Ai" moments, which I would categorize as a special "I REALLY love Otsuka Ai" moments, came when I first saw her JAM PUNCH Tour DVD back when it first came out, and in perticular her performance on the piano. I was so moved. Even now, when that bit comes on, I get all choked up listening to those two songs - she sings them (as she does all her songs) with so much emotion. I really do love Otsuka AI.
I'd really like to hear what were your moments too... please take some time and tell me
^_^
PS. here are two very nice live performances of kingyo hanabi that i personally like. the one that i was talking about from music station and one from another variety show called music fair and her Amaenbo PV ^_^
PPS. just to confirm that i don't just leech her music, i have since bought nearly everything she has released |

haha wow this is a great idea! i really like this thread hahaha most of my friends can't understand my feelings for Ai haha cause it seems so different for me... but here goes!!
1. My definitive "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment:
When the LOVE for NANA OST first came out, I was able to get a copy. I was really looking to hearing the tracks on it because there were a lot of artists that I had not heard before and I especially wanted to get it for TETSU69's REVERSE. I put the CD into my car and listened to it a lot because the car had only 1 CD slot. I never really knew who many of the artists were when I listened to the tracks haha but I really liked a lot of the songs on it!! Cherish was one of my favourite tracks on it, but at that time I had no idea who Ai was... and I didn't really have an interest in finding out who the aritsts were. A while later I a magazine scan of Ai and I thought she was really pretty. When I found out she sang the song CHERISH on the LOVE for NANA OST I went on youtube immediately to find her stuff. I watched the CHERISH PV and then went out to buy LOVE JAM!!! I'm really glad I came across her and was able to buy LOVE JAM!! My parents gave me the weirdest look when Pon Pon came on haha cause it sounded so different from what I usually listened to. Eventually, though, they came to like listening to her too!
2. My definitve "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
Sorry for being so longwinded haha... I'll make this one shorter. My definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment hit when I was watching her sing Shabondama on Bokura no Ongaku a few months ago. She was so expressive on both the piano and vocals and she had so much control!! I was so moved and I thought, "wow, she's really amazing"!! I always loved how she could express herself so well and so freely... I find that I often have trouble being expressive in my music.... or just being expressive in general. Ai makes me understand what emotions are really about and how someone can bring life to their music! I love Otsuka Ai!!!
Can't wait to hear all your stories yall!! This is really an exciting thread!! |

1. My definitive "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment:
Sometime when Sakuranbo was released, I remember I was sitting & watching Hey x3 on TV. It was only a short moment, but I remember watching this girl sing a cute song & playing the guitar. She was wearing this one outfit that caught my eye, and I really thought her music was cool. Not understanding any Japanese, I wasn't able to catch the name of the artist. Somehow, I tried looking up the song & I think I found it! Once I downloaded, I became hooked! Though, I still wonder if it was actually Ai-chan i saw on Hey x3 .
2. My definitve "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
While watching the JAM PUNCH tour on my computer, I instantly fell in love (ha, that's a weird sentence) when I saw her play piano. Specifically Himawari. It was a beautiful piece. I really don't know how to describe it, but it made me think, "Whoaa, she's awesome."
That, and also watching her on Utaban when they had the magic show. |

1. Your definitve "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment.
I recently got into Japanese music through L'Arc~en~Ciel, so while browsing torrents on J-PopSuki, I couldn't help but notice that there were lots of Otsuka Ai torrents floating around. I ignored them at first because there really was nothing compelling me to download her stuff. And then, one day, put of curiosity, I downloaded the PLANETARIUM single, and I thought, hey, this is pretty good. That was when I "noticed" her.
2. Your definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
Shortly after hearing PLANETARIUM and a few others like Sakuranbo, I went into my local VCD/DVD Chinese movie shop, and I was very suprised to see the VCD of JAM PUNCH Tour there. So I rented that, and even though I usually only like concerts with lots of choreography, i.e. Ayumi, Namie, I really really loved this concert because every song was so nice. Probably what got me though was when she did the MC right before Daisuki da yo and revealed that the song meant so much to her, and that was when I knew "I Love Otsuka Ai". And then when I learnt she composed all her songs, and how Daisuki da yo landed her a record contract, "I really loved Otsuka Ai" and felt compelled to buy her stuff.
I have never looked back since then. |

I heard "momo NO hana BIRA" and I really really liked it! It was just so nice. That's when I noticed her. Too bad I hated "sakurambo" XD
2. Your definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
When I heard "amaembo" I was in LOVE with her music! Her voice was so nice and sweet and I was like "man, this girl is pretty cool!". And then LOVE PUNCH came out, but then "Happy Days" came out and it was a kinda "eh" for me. But then "daisuki da yo." came out and I fell in love with her again! <3 |

1. Your definitive "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment.
It is about one and a half years ago, my friend played Final Fantasy X, he introduced me FFX theme song - Suteki da ne, and i found that it is very very nice song, and i started listen to japanese music that time. Some times later, i had internet in my PC, and i download japanese songs everyday, most of them were anime theme song or games theme song. 1 day i asked my friend to recommend me some japanese song, and he told me Kingyo Hanabi was nice, so i downloaded it. After that i burned it into my Japanese Collection CD, i played it in my car. But for many months, i am just simply listening to it (Kingyo Hanabi) and i don't feel that it is special. But 1 day, suddenly i feel that it is very nice, i also don't know why, and once i arrive home, i online immediately and check for her profile, and that is the 1st day i noticed her. Before that i am just listening to Kingyo Hanabi, i don't even know here name, i know it after i check in the internet.
2. Your definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
I think is when i own Love Punch, i went to the CD shop, and guess where i found it? i found it under Ayumi and Utada's album , and i think it is the only 1 Ai's CD in the shop, because i never see another Ai's CD after that. I listen to the CD once i go home, and from that time, i know that i will LOVE Ai forever, her songs touched me and make me happy, and since that day, i listen to her song everyday, until now... |

1. Your definitve "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment.
Hmm... actually i started to notice her when I was in Japan in 2004. I was shopping for CDs at Tsutaya in Shibuya, and I happened to saw an album(with a cute face) displayed at the listening booth. That was Ai's(at that time, i didn't know who is she) debut album "Love Punch". I was thinking to myself " This girl is very cute!! " However, I didn't listened to any of her songs until she released the single "Kingyo Hanabi". From that moment onwards, I always looking forward to her releases.
2. Your definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
All along for so many years, I have been supporting one and only Amigo( my support for her will never end ). I didn't want to support another artist at that time. However, I really started to like her when I saw her PV of Neko ni Fuusen!
It was so cute and special!! I told myself, she will be the next artist I'll support! Til now, I love all her releases and she has never failed to deliver!!! |

oh nice topic
I will have to think about this one.
# My Definitive "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment.
Well, initially I was oblivious to Japanese music and knew nothing of what was in store for me. My brother, however, had gotten into this new genre of music, probably through friends. Well we all love to try out new things. Anyway, so since we both have the same taste in music, my brother introduced japanese music to me a well around mid-2004. How could he not I mean. Among the few songs that he initially gave me was Kingyo Hanabi. I really just fell in love with the song. Kingyo Hanabi in my opinion really trylu conveys the message and essence of the artist's emotion through its music and lyrics very gently but powerfully. And this was when I was felt, that this artist might just be one of those "up-there" on the top artists. Of course after listening to her other songs, the maguc of her music just spread on.
# My Definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
After having noticed, Otsuka Ai as a powerful yet soft singer, I went on to listen to more of her songs. Of course by this time, I had acquired music videos to her songs as well. My brother was, oh so, generous enough to give me as many as he had. And it was at this time when I came across the videos of "Daisuki yo", "Momo no Hanabira" and "680 yen". After watching the videos, I was moved. Espeically with Daisuki yo, which I had actually seen/heard for the first time all alone at home, with the computer attached to my music system and a considerable high volume during the echoing silence of the hot summer afternoon of Delhi. That song just hit me. The lyrics and the heart-thomping music flooded me with emotions of saddness that defined that song. And it was then when I realised that I love Otsuka Ai's music. This artist is among my best of the best!
So that is it. That is my story of how I have come to love music in one of its fun yet beautiful forms. Yay Ai-chan for giving us her music! ^_^ |

1. Your definitve "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment.
That would have been about 4 or 5 months ago when me and a friend were watching Jpopsuki TV on Winamp. We'd been watching it for a few months and I'd seen Sakuranbo and SMILY before but I wasn't very keen on her voice. Then one day when I was watching Jpopsuki SMILY came on and I have no idea why but I completely changed my mind and fell in love with it. Then I found some more of her PVs on youtube and then downloaded everything I could find.
2. Your definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
That was after I'd listened to her three albums non-stop all the way through. That's something I haven't done with any artists in a long time. |

1. My definitive "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment.
I was on the internet, doing a research paper for school, when I came across the song, "Kingyo Hanabi." I thought that it was a pretty interesting title, and decided to read what other people commented on the song. They all said it was a beautiful piece, so I downloaded it. I really liked the song, and thought that Ai's voice sounded unique and pretty. Then I noticed that I didn't go a day without listening to that song, so I decided to keep her name in the back of my head in case I found any other songs by her.
2. My definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
My friend had downloaded "Happy Days", and was obsessed with the song. So she showed me the site where I could download it. It had two songs by Otsuka Ai, and that's when I remembered her name and her "Kingyo Hanabi" song. The two songs were "Happy Days" and "Daisuki da yo." I downloaded both of them, and was a little taken back by the hyperness of "Happy Days", but I still loved it. And I loved "Daisuki da yo" even more. So I came across another one of her songs, "Planetarium", and that was when I knew I was in love with her music. |

1. My definitive "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment:
I first notice her presence when people are discussing about who will replace ayu when she step down from the spotlight over at AHS forum. I was a die-hard ayu fan back then and I'm eager to know who Ai Otsuka was since I have never heard of her before and she's already one of the candidate for ayu's replacement. That's how I noticed her. Later on when I'm trying to find some songs by her, a1strank sent me Kingyo Hanabi and said it's pretty good. Indeed I was sort of hooked to that song after listening.
2. My definitve "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
I can't really remember what makes me get "that" interested in her. I guess making this site is part of the reason, since I started Channel-Ai while I still have very little knowledge about Ai-chin. Back then when I tried searching for her materials such as album, TV performances etc. I have a really hard time finding them as there are many dead torrents, and only a few active ones. I also find like 2 forums dedicated to her prior to making this one and I find them not very satisfying. So yeah, I decided to do my own forum just for the heck of it and as I learn more about Ai-chin as I go along, I admired her even more. Finding her making her own music, lyrics, and able to play piano, draw cartoons etc. really surprises me to no end. She's probably the first "talented" singer I've ever seen, in charging of every little detail of her songs, which include composing, lyrics, arrangement etc. She's such an amazing cute girl isn't she? |

ehehhe, I love this topic ^__^ I talked abt this in my forum, so let me share it out 1 more time here
1. My definitive "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment:
My frist notice for ai-chan is when I heard Kingyo Hanabi. I don't remember why I hear it or why I downloaded the single ^_^ I fell in love with the song. And at that time I only heard very well- known artists like Ayumi, Namie, Utada, Mai-K. I wanted to try someone new ^__^ I went online and search information abt ai-chan 'cause when I downloaded the single, it has the singer's name. I was able to found very little info about ai-chan. But I kept on and day by day I got to know more about ai-chan
2. My definitve "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment:
When I love ai-chan I don't know ^_^ Since I took my time to get know ai-chan and her music I didn't notice when and how I love her so much now Honestly, when I like an singer, it's not verything about their voices, many other singers have great voices (whom I don't want to mention) but I just hear for fun, not really get interest in them like I do for ai-chan. To me, ai-chan's talented, cute, and .... awsome ^_^ I like her voice, her music and how her acting, it's just so much cute. Somehow I want to be like that but I can't I don't have that cuteness (I love you ai-chan ). And when I knew ai-chan writes for her own music, plays piano and draws such cute little LOVE ... I totally fall for ai-chan. ai-chan can do everything I want to do; (I like to play music, my uncle's a musician, I lived next to him, my cousin know how to play keyboard but I hadn't have the chance to learn it +_+ until now I still don't know why my parent didn't let me, from my cousin I'm able to play some notes and keep learning by myself+_+ ... I love drawing but can't draw verywell, some people said I've the talent, but I just can't see it, I don't like my drawings, quited drawing when I came to Canada ^_^ started to draw again though <-- that a little abt myself that make me love ai-chan even more, I admire ai-chan a lot) ai-chan beat everyone and be My # 1 idol , yeah and won't be defeated (at least at the present, hehe) |

How fun! I wanna do this too.
1. Your definitve "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment.
Same as the person who started the topic, really. Saw a performance of Kingyo Hanabi, liked her voice, her look, her piano playing, the song in general. So, I went on a obssessive search for more of her stuff.
2. Your definitive "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment.
It was a bunch of moments. Hearing the rest of her music to that point, and finding out how versatile she is, and then reading more about her. Reading that not only does she write her own music, but she didn't get her job through an audition like it seems every other Japanese pop singer has. She sent in a demo tape, and her musical talent obviously shone through in the tape. I thought that was cool. Also, she hates vegetables, like I do. Gotta love that. |

This topic is just great!^^
1. My definitive "I've Noticed Otsuka Ai" moment:
Hmm... I actually can't really remember that moment anymore... I guess it all started with the skuranbo song. Donno where I got the song from. After listening I wanted to hear more songs "of this artist". After some time I got some more songs and so I decided to be fan cause I liked her music. I wanted to get more information and so I searched the Internet. Finally I discovered channel-ai.
2. My definitve "I Love Otsuka Ai" moment:
After hearing Amaenbo I really thought "Oh my goddess, she's damn good...".
I wanted to see the PV so much... heh, Channel-Ai made it possible
When I saw Amaenbo I really was moved.
horizon180 wrote: I think it was the PV for Amaenbo which I saw for the first time around early 2005
Haha, funny! I was so jealous of the guy, too! (...to say the truth, I'm still... )
Nice to meet someone who made the same experience!
Well, ok, after the Amaenbo PV I already was a big fan but... then I watched the Daisukidayo PV... and it really smashed me... I still think it's one of her best PVs. I like these little shot's of moments wich are showen at the beginning of the PV. It moved me even more than Amaenbo.
Talking about "REAL LOVE" in this case is a little difficult I guess. I don't know Ai personally, never met her. Well, of cause I like the way she expresses herself in her songs but I don't think that's enough to know her REALLY. To know someone REALLY you have to be part of this person's life.
To say the truth there actually have been some moments in wich I felt as if I had a LITTLE cush on her... For example while watching PVs or especially while watching Tokyo Friends... but of cause I came back to reality very soon. It's just some kind of "romantic dream"...´
This times I just hope that someday I'll meet a cute girl with similar character type:
Happy and a little goofy but still emotional in the right moments. And of course this special kind of beeing quite hot in her own way (to explain: well, did you guys watch Ai in SMAP Bistro? She weared cute clothes there. But when she went away from the table and then downstairs to taste the other things, I just thought, "maaaan... she looks not only cute but also quite hot! Well, that's what I mean...)
Haha, I guess I shouldn't talk that much about myself |
