Nintendo announced the new name for the Nintendo REVOLUTION today...
Nintendo Wii
http://revolution.nintendo.com (click me)
Quote: "Introducing … Wii.
As in “we.”
While the code-name “Revolution” expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.
Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.
Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?
Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes this console is for everyone.
Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.
And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.
So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.
Because, it’s really not about you or me.
It’s about Wii.
And together, Wii will change everything."

And wii don't need any of those "OMG Wee-wee! How stupid are Nintendo?" comments. |

| Haha, I just found out about this yesterday. I still don't know exactly how I feel about the name, but I'm really excited for the console! My friends and I have all agreed to stand in line somewhere so we can be part of the first wave of Wii buyers. I'm really excited to see how the new Super Smash is going to develope because even now my friends and I play it religiously. |

Just remember how exciting names like PlayStation 3, PlayStaion Portable and XBOX 360 are...
The most important is the console itself... only some days away now. MAY 9TH! |

It looks good as a logo, but when you say it, it sounds pud.
Nintendo have often suffixed their game titles depending according to to the console, Mario 64, Animal Crossing DS etc. Are we going to get Resident Evil Wii? Sounds a bit arse to me.
I suppose though, it's the product that counts the most... but a strong brand identity is important for marketing.
Wii
I hope the controller's called Pu |

You're a tad wrong there... On the NDS it's called Animal Crossing: Wild World. Also how many GameCube has the CUBE prefix? (uhm... Super Mario Cube or Super Smash Bros. Cube... ). On the DS they try to include the DS prefix in the title (Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Resident Evil: Deadly Silence). Sure there are some DS games that have the prefix but they are multiplatformgames (Ridge Racer DS. Rayman DS, Monster Trucks DS, SD Gundam G Generation DS etc).
I think it will just be called Wii not Nintendo Wii and that is something very different for Nintendo to do. I've heard that the marketing on Wii will be really different compared to the GameCube. Nintendo wants the non-gamers...
The controller doesn't have a name yet but it has been called the revmote... but now people on the net is starting to call it wiimote XD |

I did say 'often' not 'always'!!.. wipeout64/Advance Wars/Ridge Racer DS, I think they do it more than most!, albeit not with the 'cube.
You're right about ACWW though.... alright I'm a donut!
I'd never noticed the sneaky use of the DS initials before, I've learnt something today, and for that I thank you |

*laughs out loud and cries a little* Genius. Utter genius.
It's given that the name is a bit weird but, come on, what about those controllers and the attachment for it? Can you imagine playing the next generation of Super Smash with those things. There are going to be a lot of black eyes and bruises in this house during those first few adjustment weeks. There were some really cool ideas in the first video that I saw with the controllers though. Check it out for yourself. |

| After seeing a few videos of the Wii in action, I guess I would be getting one over a PS3 first cause of the much lower price. Yes the name sound a bit corny when u say it but I will not just call it the Wii, it sound better when u call it Nintendo Wii just like Nintendo 64. One of my more anticipated game for the Wii is the yet to reveal Resident Evil game. |
