I should probably be in bed as it is currently 1.03 am and there's lots to do tomorrow..but the topic of mobile phones has been on my mind for a while. I've currently got a Motorla T720..<- i don' have that much money to purchase new ones very often and considering that i'm here in the land of Aus, they don't seem to be very cheap. And so i was thinking of rewarding myself at the end of the year with a new one
So..lately..been off to ebay to check out some prices..I've wanted a Panasonic VS2 since last year..but i have now come across the Panasonic VS6 (ebay price) -> around $200 was the cheapest i saw. Then over to the flash end of the scale where i really like the Sony Ericsson W900i with it being around $600 - $700..I just really want a phone which a good camera and zoom..that's why i was opting for the Panasonic..it's also cheaper..Whereas with the Sony...i like Sony..so if it's really that good..why not..and i love thw white swivel...
So..*i hope*..that this thread will be succeful and open my mind and possibly others to new possibilities...
Question --->>> Which phone do you use and is it any good...
And for all those who are from Hong Kong // Taiwan // Japan...are the phones over there really that much cheaper? |

I use a Samsung A670. Its a big thing, but it does its purpose. No bluetooth or data connection so that kind of sucks, but hey. It was free with my plan . |

These sites may help you make a decision
Here and here
I'm a big fan of SE phones so I'm a bit biased, I have the W800i which I think is the nuts. I also like SE because it's so easy to find or make themes for them, I like being able to customise my phone
My brother-in-law has the Panasonic VS6 you mention, it's got a really nice big screen and does most things you'd want. The only problem he finds is that the camera isn't all that good in low light situations.
The W900i is a big old lump, it is nice but I wouldn't fancy having it in my pocket all day. My friend has the S700i which is similar in size, it's a hefty lump of phone.
Have you considered the W810i ?
Have you seen the W950i?.... mmmmmmm probably going to be a tad pricey though |

Omg you said almost exactly what I was gonna say haha. We share the same interest in cellphones~ I have a w800 too~ Isn't it a gorgeous baby. ^.^
SE phones have awsome cameras. 3 Their 2mp camera is better than a lot of other brand phones with 2mp cameras. The zoom, macro, modes, are really nice~ But like mrc said, the w900 is rather big and thick and wouldn't really be a joy to carry it with you all the time. The w800 is at a good price right now since it was released last summer. It has basically all the cool features you might want~ Newer ones from SE looks awsome but might be very expensive or not released yet. |

SE W800i looks like a really good contender now..and it'll prob be cheaper at the end of the year too..hehe..yeh..my cousins got the S700 swivel and it is a big lump..so the W900i doesn't look fit for me...so then what would you say was better..the W800i or the W810i?..i like the 800 becuase it's white..but i don't know much about the diff with the 810...
NextDesign: Thanks for your input! However..i'm not much of a samsung fan..unless you REALLY persuade me that is better than SE... |

The difference between the w810 and w800 are:
Modes/Bands:
w810: GSM 850 / GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 (GUAD-band)
w800: GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 (TRI-band)
Battery Life:
w810: Talk: 8.00 hour / Standby: 350 hours / (14.6 days)
w800: Talk: 9.00 hours / Standby: 400 hours / (16.7 days)
Built-in Memory:
w810: 20mb
w800: 38mb
Phone Book Capacity:
w810: 1000 entries
w800: 510 entries
Packet Data Transfer:
w810: EDGE (EGPRS) <-- faster transfer because it has EDGE
w800: GPRS
Small differences.... If you don't care much about EDGE, I think you should get a w800. It's a lot cheaper right now plus it has a better battery life, which is more important than you think when you need to listen to mp3s or take pictures. |

I'd be tempted by the 810 if there was little difference in price but otherwise, do as Miss caf' says - you won't regret it
It's a nice phone, nice and orange... |

I'm using a Japan phone currently. The model is Toshiba V803T by Vodafone KK Japan . It is an ipod phone. Actually all along I'm using Japan made phones such as NEC, Sharp, etc. http://www.vodafone.jp/english/products/model_3G/v803t/index.html
Phones in Japan is indeed very much cheaper as compared to phones outside Japan. The most advanced phone in Japan would cost about 30000Yen to 50000yen only. You can imagine how advance Japan phones can be..
Putting Japan-only-phones aside, I shall talk about the mobile world outside Japan.
In my opinion, I feel like SE and samsung are very advanced in phone technology as compared to Motorola or Nokia nowadays. Nokia seems to be losing out soon...
For SONY and samsung, they have so many different types of products, therefore, they can always combine these technology into their phones. For example, SONY has the cybershot technology and they use it on their phones. Samsung is good in Lcds and they can always combine it with their phones. But what do Nokia have? Only mobilephone technology... It would be really a difficult fight in terms of technology...
If you will to say that Nokia interface is the easiest to use, it will only be correct for older models.. Nowadays, high tech Nokia phones no longer have easy to use interface... So this means that most of the mobilephones (all brands) have one thing in common; complicated interface (e.g. many sub folders in sub sub folders..). thus, there is only one area left to compete----technology (e.g. cam quality, music quality, etc)...
I don't like or dislike Nokia/Motorola, but just feel that they have to do something about it.. If not, they will start to lose market share... |

Very good point you have there ne~ This is why Ericsson was smart and merged with SONY to be Sony Ericsson~ Ericsson had the mobile technology while SONY had the multimedia technology, such as CyberShot, Walkman, etc. Together they make awsome phones ne? |

@short+simple
haha! Wait til you see these phones with your own eyes in Japan!! You will love them!! I prefer docomo phones but too bad it can't be use outside Japan. As for AU phones, i have played with some of the phones including the one using frienger as theme song. This 4GB HDD is kinda heavy but cool!! The features are just simply amazing
Anyway, here are two pics of my Japanese phones.
From left to right : NEC N630i, Toshiba 803T, Sharp 902SH
The NEC phone has been stolen while I was eating at a restaurant last time Now only left the box and accessories...
