Inspired by an excellent idea from horizon180, there might as well be a topic for anything about the RPG game Tales of Symphonia ! I love this game !
In case people are wondering here are the three different covers
Gamecube version Japanese Gamecube version
Japanese PS2 version |

i've got the gamecube eu version so the first blue-ish cover.
i love this game. i suppose the only thing i can complain about in this game is that at any one point in time you can only fight with 4 characters and can't "tag" them in and out...ie change them during battle.
otherwise its completely awesome. i spent most of last summer sitting infront of a tv playing this game.

| Me too, I was completely addicted to this game last year. I have the American gamecube version of the game and I was very disappointed when they came out with the Japanese PS2 version later on because they added a lot of new stuff! |

hahaha...yeah Namco added a ton more stuff in it that they didn't have in the any of the gamecube versions . They added like a billion new Hi-Ougi's and regular ones that would have been awesome to have!
Raine gains two new Hi-Ougi's Sacred Shine and Fairy Circle, Zelos and Kratos get Shining Bind, Zelos gets Divine Judgment, Regal gets Garen Zesshuugeki, Presea gets Reppa Enshougeki AND Hien Messhoujin, and all of Sheena's summons get a face cut-in thing.
Here are pictures with the Cut-in sequences

Also they decided to add more costumes too!
Colette wearing Lloyd's clothes
Lloyd and Kratos in Samurai outfits
Sheena and Zelos in biker outfits
Genis and Presea in winter attire
Regal
Casino games in Altamira
New unison attacks

http://www.holystar.ch.vu/ is an RPG media site that has many record-breaking pics and videos. There's a Tales of Symphonia PS2 (JP Version) section with short vids of the Hi-Ougi's and other solo Abyssion challenges and stuff ! |

I'm changing this thread to a topic for any "Tales of..." game. Here's a list of all the games in the series so far. Tempest is not released yet but is expected to in later 2006.
EDIT: I'm adding what console each game is for and when it was made.
-Tales of Phantasia (1995 SNES), (1998 PS1), (2003 GBA)
-Tales of Destiny (1997 PS1)
-Tales of Eternia aka Tales of Destiny II (2000 PS1), (2002 PS2), (2005 PSP), (2005 online)
-Tales of Symphonia (2003 Gamecube) (2004 PS2)
-Tales of Rebirth (2004 PS2)
-Tales of Legendia (2005 PS2)
-Tales of the Abyss (2005 PS2)
-Tales of the Tempest (2006 Nintendo DS)
I didn't include the Narikiri Dungeon or the Fandom games since they pretty much include all of the characters in the games listed above. |

Now that you mention it kazfz, I didn't put what consoles each game was for... I'll edit that in my previous post.
All of the games in the series are RPG's and they use what is called a "real-time battle system" where you fight exactly like a fighting game (running around and using assigned buttons to combo, etc.). That's what I love about the Tales series - it isn't turn-based combat . I have no recommendations because all of them are good and some of the older ones are actually being recreated for the newer systems. |

well, i've only manage to play Tales of Destiny 2, i think the english seiyuu was really bad, why don't just keep the original seiyuu's voice but translate the text, i think that's better |

^^ Well their goal for re-releasing Tales of Destiny 2 on PS2 was to create an overseas version that would have the English translation since I believe they also did that for Tales of Destiny. They probably felt incomplete without translating the sequel of the game. ^_^
UPDATE: Tales of Symphonia anime official release announcement!
They're making an anime adaptation of Tales of Symphonia! I guess since this was Namco's first 3D debut of a Tales game, it became very popular? Well either way this is some interesting news since I really enjoy this game! I'm hoping to see a lot of Zelos in it! ^_^
My idea is that the story will go something along this path (I'll try not to spoil anything):
1. Most affection will be from Colette
2. Flanoir scene will either be Colette or Kratos...probably Colette, but Kratos's is important!!
3. Major events following Kratos's scene will occur, they might change it a bit (....)
4. Ending will be for Kratos's affection.....but will probably be changed depending on *SPOILERS*
They also had an anime adaptation of Tales of Phantasia. Is it just a coincidence that both of these games take place in the same world? |

woah! seriously?!
yey! a tales of symphonia anime, awesome. i'm all excited already.
dammit i need to get a DS before i can buy any games for it... *wanst a ds lite*
but yeah tales of symphonia anime! GO GENUS GO! its says 2007 hmm, but atleast the artwork looks similar to that of the game so i#m happy. OVA series... but a series nonetheless ...
those who haven't played this game, i suggest you all look forward to the anime, the story is awesome! there are more plot twists than you could imagine and betrayal and loyalty phasing into several hazy "can we trust him/her" situations, and not to mention the "hahaha i'm so powerful that even though i'm a side character, i'm actually the only reason the party won that encounter" mage Genus. << sorry Celsius, you know im a big Genus fan!
if the anime style cut scenes from the game were anything to go by, this anime will be awesome!
thanks for the good news buddy

A DS for Tales of the Tempest. Then again there are probably a lot of other cool games to get for DS, I don't have one so I don't have much of an opinion on any of its games.
Well yeah Genis has the coolest battle lines! Just to name a few:
"I'll show you your powerlessness! Indignation Judgment!" = everything dies
"Man, that was pathetic!"
"Engulf this pathetic soul! Ground Dasher!"
"Infinite powers, grant me thy strength! Meteor Storm!" = everything dies again
I use Sheena most of the time when I fight though, heh. I switch a lot.
Anyway, I might as well update.
New game!! Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology for PSP!!
Namco has so far dominated like every major gaming system with the Tales series!! Except Xbox of course.
It's going to even include Legendia and Abyss characters!
horizon180, check out these screenshots: Radiant Mythology screenshots Pretty cool, huh? But the last two pictures feature Lloyd and Raine!! In 3D again!! Something cool... The game uses something called a "Flex-range Linear Motion Battle System." You know what that means... We can run around with Lloyd and co. in full-range 3D and not just back and forth!! Genis would be running around everywhere with his kendama casting off spells everywhere!
Tales of the Abyss was like this too.
Namco's official Tales site: Tales Channel
Index features Tales of Eternia Online!
Also does anyone think that they are going to include the Devil Arms sidequest in the Tales of Symphonia anime? *is hopeful* |

Sorry for the double-post, but I need to bump this thread to make an announcement.
My my, Namco sure is busy. It has been officially announced that they are releasing *another* remake of the game Tales of Phantasia. This new edition will be available for the PSP, and it is called Tales of Phantasia: Full-Voice Edition.
That's right, it is the same, classic Tales of Phantasia that we all love, but with the addition of complete voices for the cutscenes and, I assume, the over-world skits.
Some of you may know this, but Tales of Phantasia was the first game in the "Tales of..." series, available for SNES/SFC, and has been popular ever since. A Tales of Phantasia anime was released in the past, just as they are doing for Tales of Symphonia now. If this keeps on going, they may end up remaking this game for the next-generation systems, so it would be completely 3D.
I'm not sure how I missed this, but I just remembered that the artwork/character designer, Fujishima Kosuke, worked with both Symphonia and Phantasia. This must be the reason behind the anime adaptations.
At least his character designs aren't as gaudy as Nomura Tetsuya's.
UPDATE:
Tales of Legendia Drama CD
Just like the Tales of Symphonia Drama CD's for Sheena and Regal, they are releasing CD's for all of the main characters (including some key) that will explain more of their backgrounds. They're worth buying if you're a big fan of the Tales series.
They have a segment for Mimi as well. |

lemme start by saying ToS is quite possibly the best game i've ever played.
i got it after my friend was always talking about it. she's beat it 8 times!
i was like "woah..." she's so cool
anyway, so i got the game in like...march or so of last year. my school had a late start because of icy roads, and do you know where i was? with my butt glewed to a chair in front of the little tv in my room, controller in hand, eyes stuck to the screen.
i remember that morning because that's when i cleared my first dungeon!
the fire one...that stupid boss wouldn't die! but then i figured out how to tell that dink genis to stop using fireball on it. (genis is cute, but he's so dumb, or at least his A.I. is... )
yeah, i heard about the ToS anime....any idea when it will be an american region dvd?
*sigh* i don't have a region free dvd player, unfortunately. so i have to wait.
and i have a ds, and i plan on selling my old one to a friend, and buying a lite.
a good ds game is animal crossing:wild world
it had me playing everyday for almost a year!
but i had so many flowers, i got tired of watering, so i stopped playing. but you don't have to have a bajillion flowers
ok, i'm getting off topic.
sorry about rambling!
---
even more off topic, but yay me for my 100th post! |
