Thanks for the information, 131172. I don't think Arashi is cool enough to take over the first place spot from Ai-chin, I have confidence on Ai for sure! I doubt anyone could run away with the top weekly single on that week without asking for Ai's permission first.
The Yumekui first press will definitely generate lots of sales due to crazy fans who can't forgive themselves for missing first press goodies *me me* and after the warm up of "LOVE COOK Tour 2006 DVD", nobody can resist the urge to buy even more Ai-chin releases as long as they have the money. |

omg
Arashi always has great first week debuts because they have hoards of fangirls. Their last single, sold 160k in its first week!! And those first week sales account for a staggering 80% of the singles total sales! Also, their last single which had a drama/movie tie-in, WISH for Hana Yori Dango, had total sales of 303k.
Putting things into perspective, Otsuka Ai's highest ever debut for singles was 111k for SMILY/Bidama.
Hence, as much as I'd love to see her get a #1 debut, I know she is not the most likely to, even if there is a movie tie-in, so does Arashi. But what can I say? Let's hope for a miracle. |

Arashi is it? I'm personally not worried.
With the current list as it is I think Ai is going do very well anyway, with the addition of Arashi it may be a bit tougher. But knowing that Ai is becoming a bigger name in the music business, it just shows that she's got a lot of potential. Sure the fangirls are going to go crazy for Arashi, but I think she still has a chance because things are getting better for her every bit of the way IMO. Those statistics HilaryDuffFanboy gave makes the situation scary, but nothing that Ai can't handle right?
I have to admit that Arashi is one of the better Johnny's and I didn't even think about the movie tie-in, but Ai stands out in the crowd well enough to make it to #1. Sounds biased coming from me but anyone can agree that she has the potential.
This just makes the competition interesting. Shinjiteiru kara ano yatsura wo taose, Ai! |

| Arashi and Glay collaboration...She'll get into the top 3 alright, but no. 1 is a slim chance. Otsuka Ai's sales normally depends on the length of time her singles remain on the charts, not on the first week, while Johnny's sales are the opposite. She might not sell as much first week, but she might sell more overall, and that's what matters. |

Arashi I think will be getting #1 almost certainly. #2 I think there's at least a chance for fighting with the GLAY collab. I think she most likely will get #3 that is if she wins WaT (I think their last single debuted with like ~110k) and maybe even Kumi's and Kobukuro's 2nd week sales. Worst case scenario, she'll be #6 but that's at least still in the top 10.
And yeah, someone mentioned that Ai isn't really known for her 1st week sales, but for her overall sales and how long she stays on the chart... |

aifan929, stop scaring me.
I had already decided she would beat Koda's 2nd week sales. And I would think she can beat Kobukuro's 2nd week sales. Kinki Kids will also release a single the week before Otsuka Ai, and I'm quite sure she will beat their 2nd week sales as well.
I have stated before that Arashi is odds on favourite to get #1, and I standby that, although compared to GLAY and supposedly WaT (nothing official has been said), I think she can edge them out, based on the fact that Toyko Friends is one of the most anticipated movies this summer. |

Bleh, so so sorry for double posting, but I really wanted to bump this up.
It is confirmed that WaT is indeed having a new single out on 02/08, it is called Hava Rava.
Not good news, but I am quite confident Otsuka Ai can handle them, simply because Otsuka Ai has Tokyo Friends behind her and WaT have literally been out of the scene since March. |

Thanks for the confirmation HDF. Yup nothing to worry about there.
You're right, WaT doesn't come up too often now do they? And with Tokyo Friends Ai can easily stand up against them. I don't think it will affect the outcome drastically, but we shouldn't turn a blind eye to them completely just for the heck of it.
Once again the competition has gotten more interesting.... |

I think Ai's best bet is probably no. 3, although I see no. 2 a potential. At the very least no. 4.
But I said again, Ai isn't known for her first week sales, even her best selling singles. Her overall sales doesn't really depend much on her first week unlike Johnny artists and Ayu.
Also even if a movie is anticipated, there has been chances that the movie turn out not to be as good as people expected it to be. For example, Shinobi with Heaven as a tie in. A lot of sources thought Heaven was going to be the next my heart will go on or something, but Shinobi didn't do that well as a movie. And from what I've read about Tokyo Friends the movie, it's a movie with nice songs, but when it boils down, it's really no more than a chick flick. So depending on a movie is a risky move.
But the song is good, so I'm sure it will do okay. It should do well. It's a nice song. |
