Update 7/5:
Ami's official site has been updated with "Like a Love" new layout.
Here's the cover and tracklist of "Like a Love" CD+DVD and CD only version:
- Like a Love?
- スコールにぬれて (Sukoru ni Nurete)
- Like a Love? (Instrumental)
- スコールにぬれて (Instrumental)
First press bonus is a 32 pages photobook and is available only for the CD version, NOT the CD+DVD version.
---
Ami Suzuki's new single "Like a Love?" (July 27th on sale) is a summer love song composed and arranged by our dearest Ai-chin, according to Sports Hochi. The lyrics, however, are written by Ami Suzuki herself.
This is the first time Ai-chin give away a song she composed to other artists. Ami and Ai-chin has become good friends since the a-nation festival last year, which is Ami's first major outdoor event since she made her comeback under avex. Due to the fact that they are very close in age (both of them born in 1982), Ami and Ai found many common interests and has become "mail" (mobile mail or email) friends.
"Like a Love?" can be considered as a sequel of Ami's "Alright!", which was released in May this year. "Like a Love?" gives a fresh impression of the start of love and the summer feel, while "Alright!" gives a presentiment of love.
The reason why this collaboration is possible is mainly because of the overlapping of Ami and Ai's view about the world. Ai-chin expressed, "The most important thing when composing this song is Ami's own impression, the finished composition gives you an urge to spend your vacation in southern countries".
So far all of Ami's songs were composed by male composer such as Tetsuya Komuro, which make this her very first time singing a song by a female composer. Ami said, "After listening to the tune the lyrics just came very naturally to me, this collaboration with Ai-chan connects tightly with the impression of daily conversation and I believe this song will definitely capture the heart of everyone!".
---
Well, that's the rough translation of the article using some translation tools and my limited Japanese knowledge. Maybe some of you who know Japanese by heart can give us some help here to make things clearer.
It's quite an exciting news for me since this is the first time Ai-chin giving someone else her own songs and I'm really looking forward to see how this turns out. I've already started listening to Ami's music a while ago so this won't be a reason for me to start listening to her, but for you newcomers who doesn't know much about Ami yet, you might find this article written by Rinoa useful, if not VERY useful: Ami Suzuki - A Fallen Idol Rising Again.
Take note that Ami's "Like a Love?" single will be released 1 day after the "LOVE COOK Tour 2006 DVD" so it's a really smart marketing tactic from avex, once again.

........ Now we know who one of Otsuka Ai's friends are!! I always wondered who were her friends in the same business.
This is seriously awesome, I can only hope this is only the start of something, it'd be great for her to compose songs for other artists. (Like Ayu? )
I'll get this single for sure, even though the past single, Alright!, was the only single I haven't enjoyed since her comeback at Avex.
Thanks for the news, eyn. |

lol, i doubt that if ai-chin composed/wrote for ayu, the song won't do well... trust me, with 2 of the biggest names in the industry behind one single... it's bound to make waves and sell like hotcakes, i know i'd buy it, even though i don't buy ayu's music.... similarily, a lot of people would buy it too. so imo ai-chin + ayu would theoretically make a great combo...
however!
i don't want them to. ayu has worked hard to get where she's gotten and avex has worked harder to get her there. full credit where it's due. buy ai-chin is rising in popularity everyday, and recently i was listening to a program on the radio and they did a quick poll among the studio guests to see which movie was the most anticipated of this summer, and ai's 'tokyo friends' movie was right up there along with hollywood blockbuster 'superman returns'.... so yey for ai-chin
i would like ai to keep doing her thing and one day soon surpass ayu....
she's written a lot of songs for avex, it's nice to see that she's now composing for other main stream artists too... i like suzuki ami, she's very sweet.... awwww

Ohh this is great, I love both artists~ Hah I really can't wait to hear the song, especially when it's a collaboration, they are always interesting. x3
I would love it too if Ai-chin composed a song for Ayu. But that just seem too far off to be possible. o__O; For some reason I feel those two will never work together hah. ^^; I love both of them though. |

Well that's Ai for you! Always working hard! ^_^
I doubt she'll get to composing songs for anyone else though, I mean she does have her own career to work on. It was a great thing for her to do and this tells me something more about her: she truly enjoys her job. |

Wow that's quite interesting! I've never thought of Ai composing for other artists...I think if I listen to "Like a Love", I might try to imagine how it will sound like if Ai was singing it lol.. |

That's totally AMAZING. As I love both artists, I'm really looking forward to it. I hope it's not the last time she's composing for another artist. |

Wow, I mean wow. This is some news. Usually when I think of Ai, I think of singer, artist. Now I definitly have to add composer to that categlory. I mean even though I know Ai compose all her own song, the 'composer' part never really sank in until now. Now what I mean?
And wouldn't it be neat if Ai appears in the PV?!

I feel the same way. Unless they become good friends like Ami and Ai, I don't think it'll happen. Plus, Ami was Ayu's rivary. So if you put one and one together... that's just me though. |

it's really not that surprising that she's composing for other artists, and i won't be surprised if she did so again in the future, she has said on multiple occasions that if askd to choose between making music and singing, she prefers making music. that's the sign of a true creative artist there, and considering she's releasing songs she wrote from back when before she debuted, only she (and possibly avex) knows how many songs she's written till now.
i think that if she continues to write and/or compose songs for other artists, she establishes herself more as a complete artist, joining in the leagues of big names like mr.children, dreams come true, porno graffiti and sukimaswitch, who also write and produce songs for other artists.
ai-chin saikou!

Ami's official website has been updated with a new layout, and it looks pretty good! Well, it's kinda weird to talk about all these in Ai-chin news forum but still, they have some connections!
Here's the cover and tracklist of "Like a Love" CD+DVD and CD only version:
- Like a Love?
- スコールにぬれて (Sukoru* ni Nurete)
- Like a Love? (Instrumental)
- スコールにぬれて (Instrumental)
* Sukoru = Squall
* The meaning of the B-side title is "Getting wet in the squall"
Ami also posted some nice photo in her online diary:
The last picture above is taken during the PV shooting of "Like a Love", which she revealed was shoot in Okinawa.
I think I prefer the cover of the CD+DVD version over the CD only version, as the composition is better and the colour is more vibrant, however, do take note that there will be NO first press for the CD+DVD version, only the CD only version comes with a 32 pages photobook first press bonus.
So, how many of you are actually going to order this single? I think I might order the CD only version (well, there's first press!) together with my "LOVE COOK Tour 2006" DVD, which will be released only one day before this single.
If this single is a success, I think it will give Ai-chin and avex more confident to continue doing such collaboration, which is another great way for us fans to get Ai's music without her working too hard on the promotions, TV performances etc. |

I like the covers. I prefer the CD+DVD cover, but the CD only cover isn't that bad. I bought the CD only ver. a week ago and I hope I get the first press bonus *prays*
Ami looks weird in the second picture o.o The third one is cute ^^ That girl holding the shoes is funny The website looks so pretty! I love when the top is loading and an "a" and a "s" appear together looking like a butterfly |
