I really liked this pv! this animation is SO much better then Love's. There's a story in there! and a really well done. And another thing that made me like this pv so much is the fact that there are some stuff from her previous pvs [like you guys already pointed...the tree from Neko ni Fuusen, her statue that looks like her in the Planetarium pv, the fireworks and goldfishes from Kingyo Hanabi]. Actually, I think there are more then just these 3 pvs in there...the boy's dream remainded me of Daisuki Dayo pv, in the scene where it shows their pictures and the bug is really similar to the bugs from momo no hanabira...when I saw the flowers on the clouds, the firts thing that to my mind was Momo no Hanabira, in the scene where the petals start to "fly"...the girl wainting in the window is like Ai on Cherish [but clearly a less dark version of it]. Well maybe I'm just Crazy to think that..
About the story..I Liked Yangirl's version! xD
And About the meaning of the song and the pv...I loved Aprilis point of view! |

I've only watched the PV once. Due to the fact that i'm quite busy visiting in china. @__@;;; I hardly have time on the computer.
I like the connections with her other PV~ I haven't noticed that myself, so thanks for bringing it out for me. I think it makes the PV much more interesting.
I like the animated PV but like most I wanted to see Ai-chin. But I think with the ideas and style of the animation, a real life PV expressin the same ideas and style would be hard. I really hope to see an alternative one with Ai-chin though. 3 |

Wow, eyn, I'm both surprised and honored to be included in the original post. And here I thought no one ever read my often-too-long rambling posts...
It's good to know that my obsessive-compulsive tendencies [hyper attention to detail] do some good at times.
I'm warming up to the PV (I certainly like it a lot better than the purple cover... )--it's growing on me. I can't wait for the full-version--I definitely think it will be infinitely better in its entirety. Then we'll probably see how the animated Ai meets the main-character, not just see her first when being pulled up by the vine/tree/beanstalk thingie.
...Which reminds me. I didn't think of the Neko ni Fuusen connection with the tree-thing (funny, huh? I see the tiny goldfish, but miss the giant growing plant as a possible reference... ).
I guess I didn't think of it because I wasn't looking at it as a tree, but more as a vine which is spiraling around a giant growing microphone. If you look, the center part is a kinda metallic blue-purple instead of green, and when they (Ai, the boy, and the beanstalk thingie) break through the clouds at the top, the plant terminates in the microphone (right before you can see the whole thing slimming down and tapering to be the right thickness).
Perhaps when we meet Ai in the missing section she is already singing at a ground-level mic which then bursts out and starts growing upwards for them to catch a ride...
I really like bkah's thoughts about the dragonfly being from Momo no Hanabira-- I completely forgot about those insects! I guess the little peach guys are just too cute! --and the girl at the window as a reference to Cherish--subtle, but a really interesting connection [What a great mind you have, bkah!]... Gives more depth to the character of the girl, so she's not just a blank damsel sitting around for the boy to act upon--she has her own feelings of love and longing.
I wonder if there will be references to all her singles in the full version. Might get a little crowded and take a bit too much away from the PV as a whole. Perhaps it'll just be her ballads...? It'd be great if the kitten from Amaenbo made a cameo!
I have a feeling that the references to her other singles is just a kind of fun bonus 'scavenger hunt' to make the PV more enjoyable for the fans. But I do really like Aprillis.'s interpretation of the additions. Also, the makers had a lot more freedom for content (and little bonus references) because of the use of animation, especially the type of animation chosen--smooth CGI like the older Love-chan PVs would have been much more time-consuming and expensive to render.
In my opinion, it's hard to directly compare this PV with the above mentioned Love-chan PVs because they are so intrinsically different. The older CGI PVs were of a more supplemental nature. Both were released on the DVDs accompanying her first two albums, plus they were further in addition to other, more substantial live-action pieces (LOVE PUNCH: Shabondama PV, LOVE JAM: Kingyo Hanabi Short Film). I always considered them to be more "Bonus Material" than real PVs--especially considering Daisuki dayo. already had a full live action PV to its credit...
This PV for Yumekui is the PV, tho. Of course, I suppose one could consider all of Tokyo Friends, both series and movie, to be the *real* PV and this the Bonus Animation PV... In that respect, an animation PV was really the only way to go for the release of the Yumekui single.
It's already gotten plenty of 'screen time' with the live Ai. |

I'm still not sure whether I liked the PV :\ I like it a little more now that I know of the connections it has to the other PVs (Wow zyzzyva!!). All the browns made it feel a little gloomy to me, so after watching it I feel kind of down actually ^^; The baku is very cute and cuddly looking though~
I like that it's unique, but I really prefer her non-animated PVs... |

| thanks zyzzyva ! but I think I just went a little crazy about this little details too! and I think there'll be a scavenger hunt of pieces of her other pvs [and I believe it's ballads only..cause this kind of music is more compatible with Yumekui] |

I vote for ''They're okay, but I really want to see her in the PV!'', but actually if i have to give this PV a score, i will only give 30%. Because i don't think this PV is good enough, it is hard to understand,(maybe i am stupid, i don't know~), and i read translate lyrics for many times, i really can't find out the relationship between this PV and the lyrics....(maybe,maybe i an really stupid..)
But, the song is nice(for sure), and no mather what PV is this, it is also Ai's PV, i will try to accept it too(love blind?) Hahaha. |

| Well, I was dissapointed that Ai wasn't in it. Though her being in the movie should not contribute her not being in her PV. I know many other artist who are also starring in a movie and still have time to be in their PV. Animation is nice, although I wish Ai would have made at least some appearance in the PV. |

Hmm....this isn't the first time I've seen complaints of Ai not being in the PV.
I don't think it was a time issue or whether she was too busy to star in her new PV, that she didn't make an actual appearance. Consider this:
It was a definitely a step out of the norm for her PV to be completely animated, but it creatively expressed the theme of Yumekui, which is abstract in itself. Dreams are abstract, and I honestly believe that the theme would be difficult to carry out without this animation.
Also the song Yumekui is in the *complete* perspective of males.
Therefore Ai wouldn't have made much of an appearance in the PV anyway because it would need a starring male role. That's why the boy was the main character of the PV.
It isn't fair to judge the PV and trace its problems back to Otsuka Ai. Sure opinions are perfectly fine, but that doesn't justify any reason for anyone to compare her to other artists and say that she didn't do what they could. She obviously wanted it this way, or at least she didn't mind, so let's not degrade her for this. As far as her ballads go, I think Tears is a step out of the norm as well. It just shows development and change, exactly like the new PV. |

[but better stated... this is what I meant in my post above about having more freedom in this medium...]
It would be sad to miss the adorable baku, as they'd be pretty hard put to include him in a live-action PV. Plus, without animation, we wouldn't have had all the fun inside jokes/references to previous singles for the fans.

Though I admit, despite the masculine perspective/pronouns used throughout, it was a bit disconcerting at the beginning when the little boy opened his mouth and Ai's voice streamed out. |

*Sorry to double-post, but I wanted to bump the thread a bit [plus my previous note was pretty off-topic]*
Yumekui drops next week, but as edwx reported in the News section, Ai's Official Avex Site has been updated with a Yumekui theme, complete with animated menus, a new profile photo, and even a little Baku that chases your cursor!
Also featured is a little streaming video screen of the CM, which includes a couple glimpses at the missing PV footage. Just thought I'd add the newly revealed references to this thread:
zyzzyva wrote: The small video showing the Yumekui CM is pretty exciting (despite the blurryness)!
*More References!*
The first new thing I saw was obviously the Frienger-style scooters riding around.
I also saw (right after the Baku slurps up a 'dream-box') what looked like the animated Ai floating in a hot air balloon using a little megaphone like the one she used in the Happy Days PV... [So much for the ballads-only references theory... ] What do you all think?
Can't wait to see the PV in its entirety!
It's less than a week away, but still seems so long! |
