Not even a year after her third album, LOVE COOK, came out, there are speculations of Ai chans best album.
(ALL RUMORS: Not confirmed at all)
Source: This post on ai-NAVI.
Thanks to eyn for the heads up.
There will be both her best album and a DVD released on the same day. I'm guessing the DVD will have her PV's on them. For more speculation on the DVD, read this post by eyn.
November 8th, 2006:
Best 1 - CD AVCD-23090 ¥2,000 (With tax)
First Press: CD AVCD-23091 ¥2,500 (With tax)
Best 2 - CD AVCD-23092 ¥2,000 (With tax)
First Press: CD AVCD-23093 ¥2,500 (With tax)
CLIP Atsumari ["atsumari" may be wrong.] DVD AVBD-91460 ¥2,800 (With tax)
First press: DVD AVBD-91461 ¥3,500 (With tax)
Best 1:
Momo no Hanabira Studio Live Version
Amaenbo
Kingyo Hanabi
Daisukidayo.
Neko ni Fuusen
Planetarium
Cherish
Yumekui
Ren'ai Shashin
Best 2:
Sakuranbo Studio Live Version
Pretty Voice
Happy Days
Superman
Kuroge Wagyuu Joushio Tanyaki 680 Yen
SMILY
Bidama
U-BOAT
Frienger
These tracks are just the "recording plans", not the full tracklists. ai-NAVI also states that Like a Love? (Ami Suzuki's song, though written by Ai chan) will have a special Self Cover Version by Ai on Best 1.
---
My thoughts: I don't think this is true. She's probably going to have a best album in the near future, but if it really was November 8th, there would be some sign already, if not soon. ai-NAVI notes that this might affect Yumekui and Ren'ai Shashin's sales.
So what does everyone think? |

hmm i think it's a bit too soon for a best release haha i agree with you!
the idea of it does sound rather nice, but don't artists usually release best albums pretty late in their career??
i'm not so sure, but i think 3 years is still blooming time for ai hahaha she's growing fast though
but of course, that's just what i think |

| Personally I think it's too early, especially after only 3 years though I think it's about time to release a clip collection. |

I'm not convinced at all. Otsuka Ai is in no position to release a BEST in the form of 2 CD's, and I'm sure Avex knows that it wouldn't be a wise choice for them to do so.
If anything is to go by, avex is trying to make most releases in the form CD only and CD+DVD, which they have done with Otsuka Ai all along, but I am quite sure they are doing that to their other artists, like Hitomi Shimatani and Namie Amuro etc.
And most of all, November 8th as the release date. avex would never, ever, do such a stupid thing. It's not even a whole month after Renai Shashin's release! Plus avex would make it start charting once the next Oricon year has began anyway.
I see that Best 1 has all the ballads, and Best 2 has all the hyper songs. Looking at Best 2, it is really weak when compared to Best 1. avex would definitely make you buy both, so it makes no sense for them to split it into two releases.
And you're right, there would definitely be some indication by now if there was a Best to be released in November!!
To conclude, these things just don't add up and I am not believing it unless there is an official avex statement. |

this seems really well... impossible
i agree with the "it should be cd and cd+dvd" thing and it doesn't even include the original verison of sakuranbo, her most popular hit! also, all her singles should fit on one cd i think
ooooo wouldn't it be cool if its one cd that is all a-sides and one cd all b-sides (like dai did) |

Thanks to both Lainay and eyn.
I can imagine something like this happening at some point, but I feel that 2006.11.08 is much too early to be releasing a 'best album' (or anything else for that matter). Despite the fact Yumekui CD's aren't selling extremely well, I must agree that its sales will be affected upon the release of this album. Renai Shashin would have been released roughly one month before it, therefore it's hard to believe that they're going to risk (that is, if it's a risk at all) hindering its sales just to bring this out. If they play their cards right, this 'best album' will be more effective in the long run upon a later release date. [perhaps sometime in 2007]
Another thing we must consider is that the tracklists themselves are speculative. I agree with HilaryDuffFanboy--the unofficial / predetermined tracklist in Best 2 isn't too appealing, even without comparison to Best 1. Indeed, we can only confirm this rumor to be credible once Avex makes some sort of announcement.
Even if they were to exclude Yumekui and Renai Shashin from this album, it still lacks credibility because then it wouldn't be worth buying as much unless they include some *spectacular* first press bonus (which would be a poor excuse to have it sell). I would say that the most controversial factor is the release date. Based on it own merits to an extent, I believe that this is a possibility in the future. [however 2006.11.08 is far too early] |

thanks Lainay and eyn
^^haha, this rumor is great disscussion topic for us but I don't think it's great to realese Best Albums at that time. If this is for real I think it affect its sale rather than Yumekui and Renai Shashin since as for me, I'll grab Renai Shashin first day on sale^^
And we all know ai-chin's very serious on her work, her releases not just for # of sales, I don't think ai-chin will release any collections this soon^^otherwise, she has something to surprise us like Yumekui Animated PV again??? I go with HilaryDuffFanboy on this one^^ wait for the official announcement^^ |

Sounds exciting! Ai could definitely make a great BEST album. I'd like to see a lot of her singles on there. Though I agree with the point that it may be too soon. Ai only debuted about three years ago, so maybe she should wait another year or two to release a BEST album. Her music just gets better and better with every single release, and if she has more albums by then (which is most likely), the BEST album will just be better. Though, I'd buy it anyway if it were released soon. |

It is not totally impossible for this rumour to turn out to be true, or ai-NAVI wouldn't have posted this since tomo is quite a reliable source for Ai-chin's information. The BEST album is a little more doubtful, but for the PV collection, it seems to be highly possible. Take a look at this source, the BBS where we've gotten early information about the release date of "Frienger", "Yumekui", and "Renai Shashin" before. They did mention that Ai's PV collection will be released on 11/08.
Back to the BEST album rumour, the tracklist seems a little random at the moment, especially having all strong tracks on BEST 1 and having some album tracks on BEST 2, such as U-BOAT, pretty voice etc. I'm not sure if it's a smart idea to include album tracks in a BEST album or not, but that's definitely not the usual way they do it. Having the BEST album so close to Renai Shashin single isn't very smart too. IMO, the BEST album rumour seems more likely to be fake.
Lastly, the self cover version of "Like a Love?" got me excited, I wonder if she's going to use Ami's lyrics or write her own (if this did turn out to be true, that is). |

Thank you for the info, Lainay and eyn.
I have to agree to what other had said, not only do I think it's too early for a best album, but the tracklist doesn't look appealing. If avex want both ablum to do well, they should shuffle the current list around.
I like Evil_tomba's b-side album idea. To me a best album shouldn't be limited to just single, it should have all of the artist's best work. And time after time, Ai had shown us some great songs on the albums and b-side songs like 'tears', 'Always Together', etc. More over, songs like these ones doesn't get enough credit. If a person isn't a fan, I doubt they'll spend the extra effort to get to know her album and b-side songs. So by showing some of Ai's best work beside her singles, it's a great way to show off Ai's talent. |

Like almost everyone that posted in this thread I don't really think it is true. It's a little too early for a Best. Ai-chin needs to have more songs (not album songs; single songs) and gain more fans for a Best to be released.
About the release date being close to Renai Shashin, avex did something similar to Koda Kumi. They released her first Best two weeks after her Promise/Star single |

| Thanks eyn and Lainay for the info~ well, i think it is possible that she would release her best ablum but at the same time i agree with HilaryDuffFanboy that the Best 2 is weak comparing to the Best 1~ I certainly would like to see Ai Ai being on the top and beating other artists but mayeb it's a bit too fast to release~ More Singles are needed~ |
