Well it's never a true winter unless you have some of the talented ladies at avex trax releasing their ballads for this season. Last year we had HEAVEN, Planetarium and White Light, which is all I can remember, there may have been more.
This year, there are four singles which are all very good. BoA's Winter Love is being dubbed as the new Merikuri, a song that has found popularity especially with the older audience. Fresh hot off an upbeat 4-A side single, Koda Kumi returns with a double A-side single, Yume no Uta/Futari De... which uses the same compostion, but different arrangement and and different lyrics to show two parallels of love. Ayumi Hamasaki's JEWEL was meant to be on a single along with 1LOVE, however due to unforeseen circumstances, Ayumi has decided to release a mini-album instead, and there are strong suggestions she is using JEWEL to promote it as she performed JEWEL at Music Station. And of course, there is Renai Shashin. The only self-composition out of the four songs, and a soothing ballad which complemented the film, Tada Kimi wo Aishiteru so much that it compelled the director to change the film's title.
Anyhow, here are download links to the song if you haven't heard them yet!
BoA - Winter Love
Koda Kumi - Yume no Uta
Ayumi Hamasaki - JEWEL
Otsuka Ai - Renai Shashin Thanks to Rinoa for the Renai Shashin link.
So which ballad do you guys think is better? |

| whoo! I'm the first to vote, I'm gonna have to go with BoA's Winter Love. Really like the song after listening it the first time. Especially with the PV, it matches well with the cold winter. And I think BoA's voice is really powerful with ballads and "Winter Love" is one of them. |

Are you kidding me? Of course I'm going to vote for Renai Shashin!
The history behind this song is so tragic yet poetic. I must sympathize with Ai..
You'll understand why once I get this translation posted, but I must say that this is the ultimate wintery love song because of one thing: It's genuine, purely heart-felt. |

| JEWEL. I'm probably a little baised because Ayu's like, my favourite singer, but it's amazing how something so simple can be so touching. Plus it reminds me of Teddy Bear, a personal favourite Oldie of Ayu's, and the lyrics is like an answer to her Free&Easy Lyrics, which is my favourite lyrics of all time because it makes me thing. |

3 on JEWEL, 2 on Renai Shashin and 1 on Winter love.
While I do admit liking Winter Love when I first heard it, I must also mention that Renai Shashin had a much stronger impact on me, at least. The song was very powerful to me and I love it to bits. It'll also be the first Otsuka Ai single that I buy since I only started listening to her lately. Very rarely a singer can convince me to buy their singles within less than a month. Otsuka is one of the rare examples. |

I voted for Renai Shashin I think she did a wonderful job singing it, I can hear all her emotions in those simple lines. I'm waiting to see what Celsius means by "genuine, purely heart-felt"! |

With absolutely zero bias, I can say that Renai Shashin is my favorite. It's the most soothing, and not to mention it just has heart. You can feel the emotions. |

not an easy decision...I voted for renai shashin, because it's just the most beautiful ballad out of these four
but it's not really such a typical "winter ballad"...though it matches best to winter, it could also match spring or autumn I think...
so, the most typical "winter ballad" would probably be Boa's winter love...this song really fits for the winter time
another good winter ballad would be koda's "yume no uta"...especially when watching the PV... (I don't know "winter love" PV... ^^")
I don't really like JEWEL...ayu's live performance just seems so artificial and fake....don't know, but somehow her songs get worse the last months...
so...however my vote goes to Ai for the most beautiful ballad, that also matches the winter time very good |

easy.
this time i voted for renai shashin.
even though ayu's jewel is not bad. it's actually a pretty song. it's probably just that i listen to renai shashin more...idk. jewel hasnt really grown on me...yet.
yume no uta...hmm...i'm never really fond of kuu's ballads.
BoA's winter love? never intend to listen to it. since BoA is like my least favorite singer. cant stand her voice. |

I voted for BoA's winter love coz I really like that song
it's a ballad but it's powerful... and the pv is sweert... even if it's sad...
Obviously I love Aichin's Renai Shashin...
About Ku's pv... it's strange to see her die but I dont think it's a really sad pv ^ . ^"
I don't like JEWEL so much usually I love Ayu but I have to say that this song is not as good as I expected it to be.... |

@ yuko:
did you see kuu's PV for "futari de..."? it's somehow the same as yume no uta, just other instruments and stuff...and the PV from a different perspective...in "futari de.." she doesn't die ^^
so the PV for both songs are interesting
I'd like to see BoA's PV...reading your posts, it seems to be pretty |

@ yuko:
no, you didn't mistake it I think...sorry if I confused you
in "yume no uta", she dies and in "futari de..." she doesn't die ^^
I don't like kuu's voice that much...but sometimes she makes good songs ^^
does one of you know, where I can watch or download BoA's PV? |
