The Renai Shashin phase is pretty much 'over' for me, but I still love the song!!
It's very safe to assume that Ai will release a new album next, since it's always 3 singles followed by a studio album, and the last single before a studio album is always a ballad. (Amaenbo => Daisuki da yo. => Planetarium)
But the question is, WHEN will she release it?
My mind tells me February of 2007. Why? Check out the new album releases by Avex's big artists.
End of November: Ayumi Hamasaki
Mid-December: Koda Kumi
Mid-January: BoA
Ai couldn't possibly fit in between anywhere in my opinion, and hence February is the best and earliest time she can release an album. It would also be approximately 4 months after the release of Renai Shashin.
For the record, the gap between Planetarium and LOVE COOK was 3 months. |

I've been expecting an album release to announce lately! I think it will happen very soon, unless they spelt the response from Renai Shashin isn't good enough. I voted for February, any time earlier would have been announced already. It's not like avex to have a surprise like in December, although I would like one very much. |

| I was wondering this too. Since we haven't heard ANYTHING at all about this album (unlike all the buzz for Ayu and Kuu's albums), I think it won't be released until more than a few months from now...I say February, but then again they usually need to change things around and make arrangements and stuff for a month, so most likely March? I hope she doesn't keep us waiting too long though. I think she has enough tracks for the album, if she includes her B-sides--I'd love to see "tears" and "Hanikami Jane" on the album. |

I'm going to be the odd one out here and vote for a Best Compilation album before another studio album. I've mentioned my reasoning before in other threads. It just seems likely that after three studio albums she'll release a "LOVE BEST" or something of the sort. Not to mention, a compilation album doesn't require a lot of work, in my opinion, and can be popped out at any convenient moment. Which could be why we haven't heard anything about another album.
You never know, though. Ai seems to have a lot of control over her career, so we may see something totally different.
Though, I would really love to have a video collection... |

| December & Jan seem way too soon, & November is almost over, so I do reckon February.. .plus Valentine's Day is in Feb, a very "love" day & month... it would be perfect to launch a new album. I am hoping that it is a best album too. |

Ah very good point about the Valentine's day thing. That would make sense for someone like Otsuka Ai. |

| i voted april. there's been only three singles since the last album and ai's been sort of quiet at the beginning of this year...so maybe not enough material for an album just yet. so my guess is maybe she will squeeze in one more single before an album is out. |

Your reasoning appears quite sound, HilaryDuffFanboy, so I voted for February.
Lilithia's note of Valentine's Day occurring in February is a good thing to keep in mind, too.
Ai has previously timed release dates for appropriate 'day-tie-in's:
=> Happy Days was released on Tanabata [Celsius005's Translation of Muse Clip Article]
=> Kuroge ... 680円 was released on Feb. 9 (2/9), or "Meat Day" (肉の日)
[This is sort of a non-standard 'holiday' created most likely by the meat industry of Japan to encourage sales/consumption. It's name plays on the fact that the Japanese words for two (ni/に/二) and nine (ku/く/九), when combined, form the word for meat (niku/にく/肉). Of course this then also creates lee-way for the actual date for celebration, with lots of possibilities: the 9th of Feb. only, 29th of each month, or Feb. 29th/Leap Day (so only occurring every four years).] [Ai Fan Fundamentals Thread] [Archived Official Avex Site, Kuroge Theme]
Just thought I might also point out that Valentine's Day is celebrated a bit differently in Japan, despite still maintaining the love-y image. Wiki has a brief explanation of it and its counterpart, White Day.
As it says, Japanese Valentine's gifts are almost always chocolate, as opposed to just any token of one's affection. (The big romantic date day/night for couples in Japan is Christmas Eve...)
Obviously this doesn't prohibit Ai from releasing her fourth most-likely-"LOVE"-titled album on the holiday. In fact, I think it'd fall perfectly in line with her unique pattern.
Going back to the release date, though, I can't help but wonder...
Her three singles this time are Frienger, Yumekui, and Renai Shashin.
Yet, I'm finding it difficult to ignore how tightly tied the last two are to their movies:
• Yumekui's lyrics bear the whole theme/message of Tokyo Friends, plus, as people have said, it has 'been around forever' due to its involvement with the drama.
• Renai Shashin's chorus caused the producers to change the name of the whole film!
By no means am I complaining of the success/use of the songs, it just seems like it'd be strange to just put them on an album like any other single (tho I can definitely see them in a 'BEST' form). It's almost like they can/should stand on their own or be coupled with the soundtracks instead... (Though I suppose the charts/sales tell a slightly different tale... )
Ever since the single version of Yumekui was left out of the Tokyo Friends Music Collection, I was curious to see if it'd also be left out of the fourth album. Perhaps if it had sold better (like Sakuranbo or SMILY)...
Of course, seeing as the songs *are* Ai's, they do belong with the others on an album--I mean, hey, Cherish was included on LOVE COOK... It's just that it is such a different scenario than her other singles have faced...
(Sure, Momo no Hanabira and Planetarium were both used as theme/insert songs for dramas, but they were more tacked on/assigned, not written specifically for the dramas...)
While unlikely, it'd be nice to have another new single before the next album, whether or not one of the above songs is left to stand on its own merit. But the timing doesn't seem to predict it, considering the DVDs for Tokyo Friends and LOVE is BORN will be released in December and January, respectively. Those purchases will keep fans somewhat occupied while the album is being put together/published.
Just musings that've been running in the back of my mind...
I hope it makes some sense outside my head... |

wow, you've really put some thought into this and, reading it, it makes a lot of sense
geez, that's a hard act to follow...but bravo for writing so much!
and you do make a lot of sense i still hope the album will come out soon though!
and, if they come out with another album before another single, that means more new ai songs! |

I wonder what long break Ai has planned for? Maybe perhaps go to Australia! Ok, I was being abit too greedy. I voted that she is doing her Best of Ai compilation I guess. It's weird how they just call it Best. Since I'm a English speaker, I'm gonna say Best of Ai! |

| i think it would be release in Feb. As Avex would try to avoid clashing the release date with other Avex artist. Really anticipate this album coming out as her album is getting better each time. |
