I don't know if this counts as 'news' but anyhow, a while ago Leslie Kee started a project where he photographed a lot of popular Asian artists. Leslie Kee is a very prominent photographer who photographed a lot of Ayu's albums and Koda Kumi's photobook 'Maroc'.
'Super Stars' was a project to show Asia as one. Around 300 artists were photographed. Amongst them there was Ayu, Kumi, Ziyi Zhang, Ami Suzuki, Namie Amuro, Jolin, Yumi Matsutoya and many others. Ai too was photographed in this photobook. A few days ago this photobook was being promoted in many countries.
Seems this photo was taken a while ago, when Ai had longer hair. I really do like the way it portrays a lot of emotion.

Thank you for this exciting news, Rinoa!
That photograph of Ai is stunning. We so rarely get to see her shot in such a glamourous, mature way... It'd be great if Leslie Kee would shoot her next photobook too.
On the Official Site, the artist says that this book is in response to the 2004 Tsunami Disaster of Asia. He wanted to give back good energy and celebrate the countries/cultures affected by the tragedy through photographing the stars, pinnacles and representatives, he had come to know through his work.
While some may be surprised by his deviation from the common 'grassroots-focus' (i.e. National Geographic-style photographing the affected everyday people), I think he and the 300 stars who signed on for the project were pledging in their collective sphere. Each contributes how they best are able with their unique talents. Celebrities are icons and their photographers are there to bring out their strengths so they can reach us.
I recognized most of the participating names. Though I was hoping to see more names from South and South-East Asia (since those areas were the most affected), it is an impressive list of support nonetheless.
Hopefully I'll get my hands on a copy at some point. If the photo of Ai is any indication, the rest of the book should be phenomenal! |

Thanks for the news Rinoa, I changed the topic title a little to make it clearer how this is related to Ai-chin.
I love the photograph, somehow it reminds me of the "LOVE COOK" cover a little, maybe it's just the gesture. One minor complaint is the overexposed area due to the camera flash light.
Honestly, I don't get how is this project related to the tsunami thing even though zyzzyva gave a pretty good explanation. It will really make sense if part of the profit from this photobook is donated to those organization working on the tsunami aftermath IMO. |

as said before, this is a kind of charity project. there's an exhibition on tokyo promoting this photo book, but the promoting already started in first 2006.

Thanks for the news Rinoa. Ai looks so mature and beautiful in the pic. I think it's a good pic of Ai but I prefer her cute and innocent look.
I don't know who Leslie Kee is. But the thing he's doing seems to make contributions to the 2004 Tsunami's victims so bless him. However, I haven't heard anything about the project even though I live in Thailand, one of the countries that affected by Tsunami. |

such an interesting news, how could I not to know such a big event like this ^^. Thanks for letting us know it, Rinoa, you're great.
Ai-chan look really strage, I almost can't recognize her, maybe cause we rarely see Ai-chan being mature like this. I think she also looks a little sexy ^^, yeah all photos in this project are sexy (off topic, does Koda Kumi participate in this project? She's very suitable ^^).
I really want to have this photobook if possible since there're a lot of my favorite artists and they're all so gorgeous. Leslie Kee is so wonderful. |
