I ordered the CD+DVD version of the CHU-LIP single from YesAsia, and I totally love it! I love the way Ai-chan looks on the cover, very cute! I like the fact that the DVD came with a making of the video, it was totally unexpected! I plan to order more of Ai-chan's stuff in the future. I already have most of her singles, albums, and concert DVDs, that's how much I love Ai-chan. |

^ Haha, I thought about ordering CHU-LIP, but in the end, decided not to. Maybe someday I'll get it, we'll see. I like buying studio albums more though. But I did buy Yumekui, CD+DVD version. I think it mighta been first press too...but I'm not sure.
Anyway, what I was meaning to say was, welcome! I noticed you're new, you should introduce yourself in the Newbie Area. Than we can give you a real welcoming, and it gives you a chance to tell a bit about yourself. |

| I don't want to sound too hopeful but lately CHU-LIP has been climbing the charts again. It's at #15 today. |

| Finally CHU-LIP has sold 100,353 copies but is still her lowest selling single (apart from Momo no Hanabira). However if this single keeps selling it will probably surpass Amaenbo and Neko ni Fuusen in the next week or two. |

I'm really glad to hear this.
BTW, my friend has been in Japan recently and he told me he thought that CHU-LIP was such a hit as he heard this song and saw the PV everywhere! Maybe ppl like it, but they just don't want to buy yet. |

Well 100k is pretty much a hit pus she's doing fairly well on online sales. Plus I'm sure avex is promoting it |

well, still on oricon right now...as long as it keeps being in top 20, it should surpass Amanenbo and Neko ni Fuusen soon. thanks for the info Rinoa. |

Yeah, I'm sure it is a big hit there, but that doesn't mean people will buy it, you know? Friends burn CDs for each other...or upload files to tthe internet for each other...you know, things like that. I hope CHU-LIP continues to sell, even so!
It also makes me wonder why Neko ni Fuusen didn't do so well. It's a really good song, and the PV has kitties in it! |

| Well sales have fallen for every artist. Unless the single is really good people won't bother to buy it I guess (thanks to online downloads and online shopping). First press goodies though tend to make the fans want to grab their hands on a the singles. |

| I don't think the first press item is one of the issue. SMILY/Biidama also had sticker as the first press item, and look at how well it did. |

Interesting thing to discuss. I always think that the quality of first press/limted extras encourage fans to buy singles. I mean most of the time the single will be available in the album so most just download it or purchase it online.
Smily sold more for various reasons. It was a double A-side single and they usually attract more attention. Both songs also had a tie-in. Also it was her musical peak, an almost recut single sold pretty well and avex released sakuranbo again. She would also end up getting two 300k+ singles. It was probably her best year. Also imo Smily was more geared towards a mainstream audience (the song was almost pop and the pv was a little mellow compared to the insanity of CHU-LIP)
CHU-LIP had a single tie-in and the tie-in was a dorama with pretty low ratings. Also the style is a bit on the crazy side, which might not appeal to everyone. It was fairly well promoted but maybe if it would have gotten something special as a first press, fans would be more eager to buy. However in the end I have a feeling that this single will have a long chartlife and 100k is a pretty nice figure when some artists struggle to sell 10k with quality music. |

I think I would have bought it if I liked the first press better. Plus, I think I like the SMILY sticker more...and yeah, it was a double A-side, and Biidama is still one of my favorite songs. Yes, the dudes in speedos in the SMILY PV is disturbing, but probably not quite as disturbing as the CHU-LIP PV. Probably only her hardcore fans, i.e. us, will appreciate the CHU-LIP PV. And like Rinoa said, that was a great year for Ai. Her recent singles haven't sold so well, regardless of the fact that they were awesome.
But 100k is pretty good. Maybe not for someone really popular like Ai, but hey, it's still pretty good. Plus, CHU-LIP is still a recent release. Let's not talk about it like it came out a year ago and only sold 100k!
I see CHU-LIP staying on the charts for longer, too. Maybe most people are waiting for a 4th studio album? That's what I'm doing, anyway. Though, my sale wouldn't count anyway, since I'm in the US. Oricon doesn't count YA sales, does it? |
