Kyaaaaa! REAL OLD GAME! But I didn't see a thread for this so I will make one now while I'm real bored.
well i'm sure someone here has played this game and many more have heard of it. Real-time strategy game about a war between three races set in the future. The humans are the "Terrans", the bugs are the "Zerg", and the technologically advanced aliens are the "Protoss". Probably one of the most successful games in all video game history and to this day I still play it very much. (Not...12 hours a day like all the pros who have to practice constantly)
Starcraft is very popular in Korea where it has given rise to a huge pro-gaming scene including televised matches and the best players getting paid hundreds of thousands in USD a year. (Boxer, reported earnings of three hundred thousand USD one year I think)
Basic game goes you gather resources (Minerals and Vespene Gas) and build up your army and attack your enemy's base and win. Or you build up your army and meet your enemy's far superior army and then retreat back to your base where you get slaughtered and lose. Playing with humans usually involves attempts to cut the enemy's economy...which means busting the enemy's resource gathering operation.
I play using random, so the computer will pick which race I control. I think my personal favorite is to be terran, because usually a single assault force of armor can usually roll into an enemy base with minimal losses, plus they've some great defense. Whereas zerg and protoss I usually expect to spend far more money building up an attack. Well protoss I really like their special abilities and in some ways I think they can be stronger in defense than terrans because of certain abilities. Zerg are my least favorite because they rely heavily on numbers which get costly and they're kind of slow in the early game.
oh yeah and i want to add i sort of dislike newb tactic of...be protoss, sit in your base behind a wall of cannons, build carriers and run a map with carriers. sometimes i can bust this tactic sometimes i can't depending on the circumstances, but in any case i have more respect for players who vary their tactics from game to game instead of going for the single easiest tactic every game. |

I gave up playing starcraft few months ago.. Took way too much time (and spend most of the time chatting instead of playing)
I kept to the fmp (fastest map possible) scene which was filled with elitism, smurfing and well e-drama >< (like most games anyway..)
I must say starcraft is probably one of the best games I have ever played but like many games it takes way too much time to get good and it seemed like a waste to me to play every day for 6-8 hours..
Majority in the fmp scene play protoss as it has the advantage early game in terms of strength but the cheesy base storming every 5 or so minutes got tiresome, same as turtling and hacking (gotta love it when your whole team gets drop hacked...)
But i guess if you want to avoid all that crap just play ladders like SCD, PGT or WGT..
