We at channel ai are all from different countries. And that is what makes this community so special. The bond that we all have although we are all so far apart from each other... most of us have never met each other.
And its not just ourselves that we bring into this community... its our life...
And an important part of our lives is our culture.
Every culture has its own festivals and celebrations!
Christians are gearing up for Christmas. And it is a festival which we all love to celebrate regardless of our religion.
Its about festivities... its about having fun!
So I was hoping... why not find out the festivals that each of us celebrate... with respect to our religions... cultures... ethnicities.. location... beliefs... or whatever...
its about celebrating!
And I personally want to share the festive joys of the festivals celebrated in India
And similarly find out about other festivals around the world...
Long story short - lets talk about various festivals ^_^ |

i am american. i am chinese. i don't really know much about american festivals and stuff.
well let's see...for chinese we have lunar new years, usually during february sometime. i guess i am too white-raised to know much about it. relatives give you money in red envelopes for lunar new years.
sometime during spring, i think april maybe, we visit the graves of our ancestors and bow before them. before it wasn't so big a deal for me because i didn't get to know any of the ones who are buried too well. but three years ago my grandfather was buried too and i was real close with him so every year know it is an important day for me.
i'm not sure but i think there is a moon festival in septemberish. i can only suspect cause well, my knowledge of my culture's festivals isn't so great. i wind up eating mooncake around that time i know. (this year my mom sent me two mooncakes and i didn't eat them for the longest time. the one i don't like, the one with mixed nuts grew fungus all over it. the one i like, lotus and egg, seemed ok so i ate it)
that's all i can think of right know for stuff i do related to my chinese side. |

I'm Chinese too! Chinese festivals are largely concerned with the family, which is something I like very much. I can't remember exactly what festival it is called, but there is this particular one when we make "tang yuan", which is like a ball filled with something nice. i don't really know how to explain it, but it's delicious! And it's supposed to signify unity of the family. My favourite festival is of course Chinese New Year What's there not to love about money? xD
And this is not really a festival, but on the 7th month on the lunar calendar, the gates of hell supposedly open and ghosts are free to roam So we have to be wary and burn hell money and stuff like that. I do get scared sometimes, but I try to remind myself it's all superstition. |
