Has anyone ever read or saw the movie Battle Royale? I think it was
a really great movie. I am not reading the book and i am spotting a
couple of differences. There are many side stories of the students!
For those who (probably) have seen/read it what is your opinion on it?

Great movie indeed.
I haven't read the book, but I read the manga and I thought it was pretty cool. Before reading it I had never seen such a big cast of characters so well developed, and it definitely has the best art I've seen in a manga (although a little over the top sometimes). I've been thinking about re-reading it some time, though I have some other stuff in hiatus... Oh well Laughing

I felt bad for Shinji in the movie; he did all that hacking and he ended up
dieing! One of my friends actually randomly seen the movie because her older
brother bought it . We like to talk about it alot now. I liked how every character
had their own story behind the BR act, it was interesting, Especially Kiriyama's.
I never read the manga, but i have seen images of it from Wikipedia.
The only thing i find weird is how old some of the characters look, and they are only
in middle school (even though middle school goes to a few more years farther than
that of america)!

Saw the first 10 minutes of the first movie and gave up. I'm no fan of gore or random violence >.>

I seen the movie and read the novel Nod
For those who are interested in gore and violence, Battle Royale is a definite must.
For me, I watched the movie first and I definitly found it interesting to see how each student had sort of their own background and their weak and strong points and also how they handle situations.
Although it was made quite a couple years ago, it has become one of my favorite movies.

For the novel, I liked how it went into more detail on each of the student's pasts.
Like for Mitsuko, it actually explains very well on the events in her life that shaped her personality and turned her into an emotionless ruthless killer.
The novel is indeed a lot gorier than the movie but it is a really good book to read.

Although I personally loved Battle Royale, I would not recommend Battle Royale 2 to anyone No
That movie, in my opinion, was just a complete flop.

Read the novel, saw the movie, and read the manga. Maybe I'm just morbid and numb to this kind of stuff but the movie really wasn't very gory, especially since the effects looked sort of fake. Blank stare I liked it though. Personally I prefer the novel even though I read the English translated version and the translation was ... well, kinda bad. Laughing

I feel that the manga is the goriest and most disturbing out of the three types of media, but best developed. But all the guts Shocked iyaa.

Ahh and I second Shukumi... the second movie just screams "milking money out of this franchise!!" No

Yea I don't know of anyone who actually liked the second movie or more than the first one anyway. What was different about the second one was that the director for the first Battle Royale passed away so his son took over the project for the second one.

There was one good thing about the second one. The music. I liked that piano piece that the main character (played by Ai Maeda) played in the beginning. If I remember right, it's called "Farewell To the Piano"

Personally, I watched the movie first and then read the book about two-three months later so I enjoyed both of them. The first time I watched the movie, I had just finished a major paper for school and it was like four in the morning when I watched it. It was a bit gory for me especially in the beginning (I couldn't bare to watch how Yoshitoki died. I just couldn't, as soon as I heard the beep I had to turn away). But later on in the movie either I was dead tired or numb for all the deaths that it just didn't matter anymore.

The movie was well done consider the majority of the cast is jr.high school-high school aged students and for a lot of them this was their first time acting. I remember hearing that the director pushed them really hard to do their best. They were forced to do scenes over and over again until the director considered it to be perfect.

I recommend the book more. But if you want to see the movie as well I would watch the movie first then read the book. Because once you've read the book, you may not like the movie as much.

The book is very detailed and I would consider it one of my favorites. It does get a bit graphic with some of the deaths. But it's a good read and makes you think about political issues and how hate breds hate/mistrust which can lead to killings (I'm referring to the actions that occurred at the light house).

And with the book, you really get to understand Mitsuko's character and why she was the way she turned out. You kind of end up sympathizing/pity her in the end.

I myself think that Battle Royale was overrated. Even though I still want to read and watch it. When I finish with my other books, I'll definitely look for this book to try.

i watched the movie. well, but i don't know whether the movie is very gory. i watched the one that has a lot of censor (bad!!). but still, it is a great movie. i love the plot and character development. for me personally, it reminds me that human will show different personality in some situation.

is the novel that good? i wanted to buy the novel, but since i'd had watched the movie, i postponed it.

I read the manga. I must say it was quite.. disturbing but it gave a realistic setting unlike most mangas do. It showed how thin the line is, between being an intelligent human being with ethics and morals and being an animal with basic instincts.

Despite the fact that these were teens, they still were able to murder each other, because they clung to their instinct to survive and remain alive. Few actually managed to trust each other, because other instincts arose such as mistrust, jealousy and greed. Some also managed to adapt rapidly to the point of taking advantage of other students and exploiting them. The weaker minded ones were pressured and turned crazy because they were not used to seeing death at such a realistic level. It was a very interesting study of how human beings nature.

Also the fact that everyone has an intricate plot which shows you how they came to be what they are now.

I prefer the manga to the movies.

It's more detailed and provides more backstory for the characters.

Has anyone heard about the US remake of Battle Royale?

It'll probably suck.

The novel is extremely good. The ..actual novel though, not the manga, I haven't read that. It follows the novel's story exactly though, I think.

If you liked the movie you'l absolutely love the novel. At least I did. Battle Royale was my all time favorite movie. Then I read the book and was totally amazed. The novel is 10 times better than the movie. And that's saying alot cus the movie was really good imo. I would highly suggest picking up a copy of the book and reading it all the way through. Its a must read in my book.
