Hello, it's been a long while since I introduce something new. Anyway, here's a new feature that will hopefully let you know your fellow members a little better (geographically)! Without further ado, let me announce the new community map!
Here's a simple explanation of how it works. All you need to do is click on the "Add" button near the top left corner, put in your country, state, city, postal code and address. You can skip postal code and address if you want more privacy, but putting them in gives a very accurate pinning on the region you live, which makes it interesting for others to explore your living area using the satellite images.
Next, put in your name (please use your member ID in the forum), message (something for other members to read), about this place (some facts about where you live? like it's the capital of your country or 2nd biggest city, maybe?), email, website, gender. I believe only the name field is mandatory so skip any other fields as you wish (the more details you fill in the more people can know about you!). The colour refers to the colour of your marker (for example I'm black - don't steal my colour! ), and the photo field is for your avatar (100x100). I recommend you to upload your avatar using the browse button instead of using a URL for your image. Lastly, the password required for adding yourself is "ai-chin".
Once you added yourself to the map, you can edit your marker by clicking on the link on the top right page. You will need to log in using the password given above once you're on the ZeeMaps page. Click on your own marker, then click on your name to change the details.
I guess that pretty much sum up all you need to know about this new map thingy. If you have any suggestion or problems with it, just post your feedback here and I'll see if I can help you out.
Have fun with the map! |

Ok finished! I zoomed all the way in and...the marker is off a little. I am maybe about a three minute walk away from the marker!
But this is really cool. Now we can all stalk each other and be such wonderful forum buddies! |

I added my school.
The campus is the area with all the trees to the right of the marker...
Can we edit our markers, eyn?
After submitting, I thought to add more info later, but can't find a way to edit (it only seems to allow editing for moderators...).
No big deal, but thought I'd ask.
Plus, I'd want to change mine once I graduate... That won't be for a little while, tho, anyways... *sigh*
Great idea, eyn!
Can't wait to watch as it fills up... |

no satellite pics in my small town in the south of sweden...
and i kinda missed to add a message and a pic, and now i can't change that. ah, whatever. it's really cool anyways.
and yeah, like zyzzyva says... it would be nice to be able to change the marker. but i guess we'll just have to tell eyn so he can delete them and we can make new ones or something like that. i'm going to move pretty soon, so... it'd be appreciated. |

Oh cool! I put my mark there. But I reckon I'm way far away from where you all live. |

Well, if you read my first post a little more carefully, this is what you'll need:
eyn wrote: Once you added yourself to the map, you can edit your marker by clicking on the link on the top right page. You will need to log in using the password given above once you're on the ZeeMaps page. Click on your own marker, then click on your name to change the details.
In case that is not straightforward enough, there's a "Edit your marker" link on the top right corner of the community map page, click that, then click "Login" link at the very top of the ZeeMaps page. It is the 3rd one to the right of the "Find Map" search box. Put in the password you used to add your marker earlier, now click on your own marker, then click on your name, it will now show you the original input window where you put in your original information. Update any of those fields as you wish. |

This is pretty sweet! My marker is pretty much five seconds away from where I'm sitting. It's really neat to see the distribution of the Channel-Ai members. I hope more people put up markers soon! |
