I've discovered this group by accident thanks to eyn and ended up downloading most of their videography and discography because I was really impressed at how good they were. Surprisingly I noticed that in the west their fanbase is quite small, which is a pity since their style is so funky and quite fun.
mihimaru GT is made up of Miyake [composer, lyricist, rapper] and Hiroko [vocalist, rapper, lyricist]. Their music is usually a blend of Hip-Hop and J-Pop, bordering J-Urban music but their style is more lighthearted. They also release classical ballads and tend to use familiar melodies mixed within their music which is quite interesting. I was pleasantly surprised to see the vocalist, Hiroko has such a soothing and melodious voice as I expected her to be more squeaky. Oddly enough they seem to be signed to Universal Music Japan and managed by Tearbridge Productions, a subsidiary of Stardust Promotion and Avex and so they're sort of under avex too, in a way. In fact they're often at a-nation.
Anyhow - they've recently gotten into the spotlight, especially with their single Kibun Joujou in 2006 which has led them to attend Kohaku for the first time and they were also featured in many special shows and award events like Music Station Super Live,CDTV Special, MTV Cool Christmas and Japan Record Taisho.
Upcoming Releases
Their upcoming single shall be a tie-in for the new Doraemon movie, "Shin Nobita no Makai Daiboken - 7nin no Mahotsukai." which will probably secure them a good ranking on Oricon. Also to be released is mihimaLIVE, their first ever concert recorded in December 2006.
To introduce you to them I highly suggest you watch the following pvs on youtube since in my opinion they are their best or even better head over to eyn's mihimaclip thread which has their early videography ripped in dvd quality.

Thanks for making this thread Rinoa, I don't know how many fans we have here but I'm definitely one of them! Somehow mihimaru GT isn't very popular as you mentioned, not even in Japan actually, which can be easily observed just by comparing their sales with other mainstream artists.
For those of you who haven't checked them out, you can download some of their music at my box account. You can listen to the preview of their upcoming single in the trailer found in the link Rinoa posted above. I kinda like what I heard so far, it's very soothing and touching when blend with the movie.
Some extra info about their band name. The "mi" in "mihi" refers to Miyake while "hi" refers to Hiroko. I'm not too sure what "maru" refers to (literally it means circle, or circular object), but GT is the acronym of Gran Turismo.
They have released 4 album so far, the last one "mihimania" is actually a collection of b-side that hasn't been included in their previous albums. The special thing about their album is that b-sides of previous singles are actually included, even though not all of them, which explain why "mihimania" was released.
The 4 albums they have released so far are:
- mihimarhythm
- mihimalife
- mihimagic
- mihimania
Similar to Ai-chin's LOVE theme, mihimaru GT has their own mihima- theme too! I'll probably upload these to the off-topic section or just update this post with the links when I have the time to upload them.
And here's some web articles that covered their releases:
So yeah, check out their music and hopefully mihimaru GT will bring something special to your life.
One interesting thing to note is that they debuted around the same time (less than 2 months earlier) as Ai-chin. Ai-chin's first a-nation also happens to be mihimaru GT's first (they are not included in the DVD though, but can be seen in channel-a backstage special), that's the first time I heard about them. fyi they sang "Kaerouka". While Ai-chin quickly rise as one of J-Pop new princess, there are also other artist like mihimaru GT that is struggling to emerge as popular artist. Props to them! |

They definitely caught my eye in these end of year music programs. MS-SL, Kouhaku, etc...
I heard that they were pretty good and...I was impressed. Their songs won't be my favourites because it just isnt my style. However, it will be some good soothing music when I feel like it. I really like Hiroko's voice |

Mihimaru Gt thread in channel-ai
I been their fan since day who knows?
yeah they are pretty darn awesome!
I have a big heart for j-hip-hop but they can be categorized to so many
different genres, but that's one of the reasons why they are so darn good i guess?
They should fo a collabo with Verbal & Rhymester that would be awesome....i mean they all kinda share the similarities |

Thanks for the news Rinoa! The cover looks great, Hiroko looks amazing as usual and Miyake has this new white glasses lol, cool stuff! The Doraemon cover is also pretty nice, I wonder if we are going to get both cover for the single or they are for different versions e.g. Doraemon cover for first press only.
Then there's the DVD live cover! It's very nice, I like how they used the manga/comic drawing style again (after "mihimagic"). I'm getting "mihimaLIVE" for sure, I haven't seen them performing live much and watching this DVD will definitely be very interesting! |

There are two limited edition versions for this single: one with the doraemon cover and the other with a DVD. However the regular and limited edition have the same cover. I also found a promo photo.
Also mihimaru GT have a tour in 2007 starting from June till July. |

Thanks for the heads up Rinoa, here's the link to download the PV for those who are interested:
Download (87.3mb .avi)
The PV quality isn't very good, but I guess I shouldn't complain about that. Hiroko looks amazingly kawaii, she's just like a little princess sitting in her room, and Miyake also looks quite different from his usual style, most likely due to the change of his spectacles' colour and style.
The song itself is great and I like how the chorus change back to the slow and soothing intro melody before it ends. From the PV I guess this song is about connecting people and friends. fyi, this song is used as the theme song for the upcoming Doraemon movie.
I guess mihimaru GT is really on their way to the bigger scene and I guess this single might very well be their best selling single once it's released, seeing they might have gained a lot of new fans through their participation in various awards as well as Kouhaku last year. |

| The pv was a typical style of their ballads imo though it had more vintage/fantasy feel, but it had nothing special or new. Anyhow I really enjoyed her soothing vocals and I'm hoping it'll chart in a high position when they release this single. |
