I'm actually very excited for this album! It will be my first Ai CD/DVD ever if I buy it! Boogie Plus, it would be great for the people who have missed out a single or two. Despite that not all the singles are there (especially my fav ones), I'm still very excited! In fact, this is one of her BEST work right? Nod

I'll buy it and I think it's worth it just because of the first press alone (I bet the first press will run out VERY fast), and I want to support Ai-chin too. Love Just so you know, the first press is NOT just the special package (e.g. digipak), or just the special item (e.g. a photobook), it's BOTH! Angry grin

(First press will run out fast so preorder early, and hopefully through YesAsia using the associate link since you're donating to Channel-Ai in a sense, which you normally wouldn't due to the fact that you're most likely a student without much money, like me)

If the cover art is very nice with pretty photos of Ai-chin (no drawing please, that will suck), and if they somehow decided to add in one or two special tracks such as "Pocket" at the very last minute (remember how "Haneari Tamago (live ver.)" is added last minute to "Renai Shashin"?), it will make this BEST album worth even more. Remember, they put it up in RED bold saying the tracklist is just tentative, so we can definitely hope for something more as the release date is getting closer.

The price tag of ¥3,990 isn't all that bad considering her regular studio album with DVD cost ¥3,800. The discography DVD is a good collection and I'm sure a lot of fans will be intrigued by that, I mean who can deny all of Ai-chin's early PVs conveniently packed in one DVD at such a price! Forget those PV rip you downloaded from the internet, nothing beats the quality of the real DVD! Boogie

As a person who doesn't have a disposable income and the ability to collect and buy all of her singles and albums, I like the idea of this release. It gives me a chance to have this huge collection of videos and her single tracks all together.

Yeah, she could have added all kinds of special stuff, yeah it's not as amazing as say, what Ayu has released in the past, but I still think that it's worth it.

And we still have to keep in mind that we don't have any idea what the first press items will be like. Not to mention that the tracklist was posted on her website as being subject to change. For all we know they could make changes.

I would also like a remix album, though. I love remixes.

Edit: And all that stuff that eyn said, too! Giggle

first press is a very big motivator for me too. reading what everyone else says, when i catch up to ai's discography i am going to be disappointed with this release. so i had to waltz on down to yesasia yesterday and order it now two months in advance for fear of missing the first press when i usually tend to like to wait till release day approaches in case i change my mind. anyway yeah, what eyn said...order fast and use associate link!

adding tracks last minute? well for all of us who order it before that we can just think of it as a nice bonus! Boogie but i won't get my expectations up. i'll be happy with it the way it is.

hmm, after reading everyone's comments, i might consider getting this now Confused
i have ai's 3 studio albums, and the cd+dvd of yumekui, so this would be good to have. Nod
does YA have the conversion of the yen into USD?
or does anyone happen to know the price equivalent in USD?

i will only buy this if i get first press. so i think i might preorder it. along with CHU-LIP. i dunno, though. will i still get free shipping if they're released at different times, therefore shipped at different times? Confused

i hope more tracks are added! i'm not surprised her singles that aren't yet on a studio album didn't make it on here, though. i mean, you guys should know that, right? if they haven't been on a studio album yet...then they're not gonna put 'em on a best of album yet.

and, haha, like eyn said, well i have some of ai's downloaded pv's, but all on one dvd disc does sound mighty nice Giggle except poor little yumekui is still stuck on its own disc, but oh well! Tongue

kerushii: by default YA lists their prices in USD and also all sales are settled in USD. and if you want first press you should hurry.

as for shipping, ai am best alone is expensive enough to qualify for free shipping. you may add chu-lip to the order if you like, and it will still be free shipping. (that should be enough for then to give you a 5 dollar coupon too) anyway they will give you the option to split your shipment since they release on different days, in which case you will pay a little bit. or you can decline and they will send both when ai am best is released, and you will have free shipping then. anyway i would like to say again please hurry if you want first press. and dont forget associate link.

I pre-order it, but I don't think it's worth it. Not only is it because there's no "new" material on this album, but also the fact that avex is trying to make some fast cash. I've lost respect to this kind of releases ever since the countless "best" collection that were release long after DAI had disband. Avex just threw all their existing material and put it in a new package No

Don't get me wrong, I still love and respect Ai. It's avex and their money making scams that I dislike. Sure Ai might had some say to all this but in the end, avex made the call.

I've thought a lot about this and have gone through several opinions through out.

Firstly, I dislike the concept of these types of 'Best' albums/collections. Something called 'Best' should be just that -- the best work from an artist's *whole* career.

Secondly, they should've just waited until after the 4th album was out for a while so they could then include the last four singles (Frienger, Yumekui, Renai Shashin, and CHU-LIP) without competing for initial sales of the 4th album.

Lastly, I wish they had included the bonus PVs (Shabondama and Kataomoi Dial & Daisuki dayo. CGI LOVE-chan ver.s) and Kingyo Hanabi Short Film. However, as I've stated in other threads, then there would be no reason for new fans to buy the CD/DVD versions of the albums which include these...

However, I think I have finally come up with a way to look at/rationalize this release.
Considering the price is pretty close to one of Ai's DVD releases, I am now approaching Ai Am Best!! as if it was...

Love "Otsuka Ai Single PV Collection DVD, Vol. 1" Love
with *Special Bonus CD*, which collects the corresponding singles into one disc.

As outlined above, the previous bonus PVs are just that: bonus material for those respective releases. So the videos here are limited to the singles (Friends and Cherish might as well have been singles...).
The inclusion of 'Vol. 1' implies future releases of a similar ilk, most likely when another set of 13 singles/special-songs are completed (so the above-mentioned most recent singles would be the beginning of 'Vol. 2'...).

Honestly, if the release was advertised as such, would this change your/others' reaction?

Personally, I like to put the focus on the DVD, since I have the CD-only versions of everything. But even for those who have the CD/DVDs, won't it be convenient to have all these PVs together on *one* DVD? Nod
In previous 'Best' discussions (before the announcement of this album), people expressed their wishes for a PV Collection DVD. Just think of this as the first installment. Smile

So, thinking in this way, I have decided for myself that this release is worth it. I pre-ordered it already (from CD Japan --sorry eyn!-- to alleviate the shipping charge of a different item that YesAsia doesn't carry...) and am looking forward to popping the DVD into the player and letting it run! Love

[I don't think I have to reiterate others' excitement over whatever the first press bonus will be...] Shifty Boogie

I will buy it and I think its worth it. the best album displayed ai-chan's improvement over the years and its a great "history" collection for her. and its also easier for me to bring one CD out to the car without having to switch to different CDs to listen to her music~ Giggle

well, beacause it contains her 13 singles, i don't think i'll buy it. i have bought all of her albums, so i already have the songs.
maybe if there were new tracks or speacials, i would think about it.

I'll probably still buy it even though its just a compilation of her existing singles. I dont know why, maybe im just a sucker for these things and buy whatever she releases.

But i agree with what a lot of people above me have said, its really good if you dont have a lot of her singles or for those who started becoming a fan of her.

Sadly I don't think I'll buy it...
Since I already have her 3 previous albums.
And I would reather spend my money on other albums... (but not that isn't worth it.. it's a good album for those who haven't got all her albums)

Thirteen tracks, in my opinion, is not enough to cover a best, unless those thirteen tracks are connected somehow like Best~second session~. It's great that there's the PVs and everything, and since I don't own all her singles or it'll be a good idea to get a collection of her songs. But I don't see the harm of avex adding in her 2006 singles, because by the time her fourth studio album comes out the singles are gonna be pretty old, and it is a significant amount of singles that they are not putting out - 1/4 the number.

I don't really care for the first press, to be honest, since it's really going to be just sitting on my shelf and collecting dust because it's the PV collection I'm really after, which is why I'm somewhat disappointed that Shabon Dama is not going to on, because that's one of my favorite PVs and songs.

Basically, depending on my economic situation at that time, I might get it; but I might just use the money to get something else.

I'm buying it, and for me - as a new fan - it's worth it because I don't have her previous albums, and I'd love to have the PVs for my favorite singles. For diehard fans who already have everything, though, I don't see what this album has to offer.

Maybe avex is trying to attract new fans, so there will be more people buying the fourth studio album when it's released later.
