Well I'm trying to get over the crappy idea of Ai am BEST by thinking releases beyond that.

But that in itself is quite interesting. Some would assume Ai would release a new album since she already has four outstanding singles which aren't on an album. But ask yourselves, wouldn't releasing a best of album and then following it up with a full length studio album be a really wierd release pattern? I certainly think so.

The other option would be to release one or two more singles. But that itself presents a problem. Wouldn't five preceding singles be too much to fit on a studio album? The most Ai has ever had before a studio album is three singles, and now she already has four (Frienger, Yumekui, Renai Shashin, CHU-LIP) (for argument's sake, Yumekui is debatable, possibly). (But I guess, LOVE COOK already had five previously released songs, with 7 brand new tracks)

Ai's albums usually have 11 - 12 tracks, and if she is to release another single at least, then that means almost half of the album is old material, unless Ai decides to put in more album tracks.

Right now, I am thinking Ai will release ONE single after Ai am BEST (hopefully Pocket!), and then release a studio album that has at least 7 brand new unreleased tracks.

as far as the poll goes, i have absolutely no idea. i dont know enough about the jpop music scene to know what is most likely.

but as you say, she has already released more singles now than before without a studio album, with the possibility of even more before the next studio, so what about a double album of new material? does anyone in jpop do this? Confused

yeahh, i think all avex artists have to realese a Best of album every three years.

Example:

Ayumi Hamasaki - A BEST - 6 years ago
Ayumi Hamasaki - A BALLADS - 3 years ago
Ayumi Hamasaki -A BEST 2 - Now

You pose a very good point, HilaryDuffFanboy. Nod
Because of all the rumors surrounding the 4th album, only to have the Best confirmed, I guess I always assumed the 4th would be next in line.

I don't really see an issue with the release pattern, at least for me, since a Best of her initial singles would set up a desire for the 'missing' singles and new work (like a To Be Continued.../Part 2 sort of feeling). Yet in the avex world, two albums (of anykind) in a row does seem off... Shifty

Also, I have always maintained the possibility that Ai may leave either Yumekui or Renai Shashin (or both, even) off of her next studio album. They are each inextricably tied to their respective movies, despite being most definitely hers. They seem like they'd be better to stand alone as singles with their movies.
Plus, if the 4th album is released without one (or both), I'd say avex would see a slight rise is sales of the missing single(s) due to the people who held back from purchasing the single in favor of finding it on the next whole album... Perhaps one will be put on as sort of the same deal as Cherish.

I guess I can see another single released between the Best and the 4th albums, possibly another, depending on what they choose to do with the film songs.

Pocket is a good guess, since it sounds like a ballad and she has said that song is *very* special to her. I think they would want the most 'bang' for the last single to go into the 4th album (like Planetarium leading into LOVE COOK). CHU-LIP's sales might do this for them, but then there is a waiting period while the Best album drops...
Confused

I would say ai would release another single before releasing her 4th album. since I think axev wouldn't release two albums together....usually have something in between. releasing two singles would be too much "old" songs for the 4th album...having 4 "old" songs for the 4th album would be reasonable (just like LOOK COOK).

Who knows what AVEX has in their heads as a marketing strategy at this point.

I went ahead and voted for one single and then a 4th studio album. I very seriously doubt that she'll release more than that. It just seems to make sense to have a single to tie-in with the album and I don't think they really want the two albums and her latest single to compete with each other at the same time.

It just occurred to me...

Regarding a new single, other than the elusive Pocket, what about the Tokyo Friends: The Movie mystery song? :

[Though I suppose it could be a b-side or album/bonus track just the same...]

You raise an interesting and valid point HillaryDuffFanboy. I was sitting on the fence between one single and two singles but I eventually voted for one single simply because it's the one that I'm hoping comes true. I think all of the choices that you posted are valid but ideally I'd like her to release the album right away so there will be a lot of new material, but I find that a bit unlikely, just a gut feeling really.

I voted for one more single before the 4th studio album. I don't think it makes sense to release the 4th album right after the BEST album, and again I don't think she should wait for 2 more singles before releasing her 4th album, it will just take too long (more than 1.5 years since her last album) and I don't think she should postpone her 4th album any longer.

So yeah, one more single seems to be the best choice before releasing her 4th album. btw, the BEST album seems so out of place and IMO messed up Ai-chin's releasing schedule. I have no idea if avex is concocting some secret marketing plan or they are just being totally random. No

I've read alot of people's suggestions, but I'm definitely with the one single then a 4th studio album. I definitely want to hear more from Ai this year. Nod

hmm, a slump, eh?
well, we used to think maybe she'd release her next album after renai shashin. but then chu-lip popped out. and now this best album thing. i really want another album, like a studio album, i mean.
and now there's this "i can chu" song on the horizon, i mean, where'd that come from?! and where's it going? i have no idea what they're gonna do. avex should be legally considered insane at this point.
or at least that's where they're driving me Sneeze

I think creative people cannot always produce some art work when demand by audience...I think this is hard work, yes? and sometimes they need rest, just perform and relax, vacation, then maybe more creative will flood them inside! Perhaps Otsuka pay attention to graphic arts like calendar and notes, this is good way to relax true creative in her, music-self. Anyway we must not push, yes? we must relax and have confidence in Otsuka.
