Mainly voice of course. If a singer is pretty and has a lot of special effects it won't change anything if her voice is painful to the ear. I believe voice is what makes a singer so yeah.

hmm... altough voice is important.. but i think background music is more important
as... if there's only a singer voice... it will become very monotone...and makes nothing special to the song
however, the background music can make ppl light up... as in fast song or slow song...
imagine one of ai song without background music =\

background music is important...but
a song mainly base on the singer's voice...
if the song just have background music,
i think it can't called a "song"...
it called "instrumental" or "midi" i think...

beside that if some1's voice is pretty,
they can sing well without background music or drummer n guitarist...

of course,a song with background music sure is better than a song without background music...
but wat i want to say is if the singer's voice is bad, it will destroy the whole song, even the greatest background music or drummer/guitarist won't help it...

that all just my opinion ....

well .. actually to me i prefer the the singers voice.
but for the background music too is very important, for example.. for the 2 different versions of the Kuroge Wagyo Tekanyaki . on the 735yen from Love JAM, sounded rather dull due to the background music, and on the other hand of the SIngle version of the 680yen's version. it sounded so much better!! because of the drummer and the guitarist. the song sounded so wonderful!! so its important on every person's part to play in the Band ya see? Laughing

Voice. You know how suffering karaoke can be when the wrong person took the mic. Nod

Music is 2nd important, then comes the appearance. Finally, the drummer and guitarist comes in. Most people don't give a damn about drummer and guitarist, but it also depend on what genre of music are you looking at.

Yoshio is a cool guitarist for Ayu, then you have Yoshiki for X-Japan.

composition of the music. It has to sound they way that would attract the most people. Normally that means it'd sound catchy. So it'd have to have an appealing melody.

i picked the background music.
It was really tough between voice and bg music cos both are really vital.
For me the bg music will get my attention! Sometimes certain singer who can't really sing depends heavily on the their looks and of cos the bg music.
Sometimes pple can't really accept certain singer ways/voice of singing.
Dunno whether I can put down the name of the singer i like but my fren find her voice odd. Confused

i picked the drummer, guitarist for no good reason really, its just that i'm into x-japan right now and their vocalist, drummer and guitarists amazes me. i could have picked vocalist, but guitarist and drummer is better (2 out of 3 things i like about x-japan)

get my drift? Smile

anyway, i think what really makes a song nice is how all the elements of the song go together. meaning how the vocals, the guitars, the bass, the drums, et. al. go together.

i think when the instruments or more specifacally, the band is "tight", then the nicer the song.

well, actually it depends on the song. There are some songs that sound even better with loose arrangements.

music has infinite possibilites, so its really impossible (for me at least) to categorize what makes a song nice with only the voice, the background music, and the guitarists and the drummer (its a shame you didn't put "bassist" as a choice).

i also think that the appearance of the singer is out of the question "what makes a song nice?". Thats probably the shallowest kind of answer Mad

for me, I think the voice is the most important factor to make a song nice, if the person can't sing, who would wanna listen, might as well listen to techno.

I think the background music should be nice because what if the voice is pretty but the song is just super plain and aweful ...
First comes background music then voice and then all the other stuff XD
My parents listen to those aweful (to me) old chinese songs where those singers have really voices that doesn't please my ear but if the song's nice then it's no problem Nod

it all depend from the mix of insturment and the voice of the singer that make a song nice!

i like linkin park! they got great background(BG) and MLTR is great too!!

example a romantic song u dun use a electic guitar u use a piano for the slow tempo and we dun shout when singing slow songs lol!

so first it the voice + the lyrics then the BG then comes mixing thm all together we have to syconize them nicly to make a song nice too bad lotta band use their looks to gain support..

eg.5566,F4 ,ETC ths band onli have a few ppl inside them tat noe how to sing eg,onli 1 snger sing and the rest just at the back doin extra sound effect No it kinda suks ..tats y i dun listen to chinese band songs!

i think the good combination of these do so
ive heard songs with awesome lyrics but the voice and music ruins it
and songs with cool music but blah lyrics
but surely now with that i like more then ever japanese music i have to compromise to judge only from music and the passion in the artists voice..well ai is good at both, a nice surprise seeing her lyrics work afterwards ^_^
