are all the images in the gallery removed? because I can see the gallery page but not the images? or is it because I am not in the "regular" member group...? |

So does this mean that until things are sorted out, we should refrain from using gallery pictures to make new graphics and such?
I mean, it may be a hoax as others said, but I don't want to get the site in trouble for editing the photographs and such
But I have to agree with some of the others here- it seems a little fishy, considering just how many fan sites are out there. It seems like some record companies and such even like having fan sites, because it gets them publicity. I don't know that I've ever heard of a fan forum getting messages like this. But I guess I can't really say anything for sure...I suppose it could still be real. |

No, feel free to use those gallery pictures as usual, that is if you still have access to the gallery.
Regarding if this notice is real or not I couldn't give you an answer. Actions still have to be taken (and I already did what I have to) just so we won't get similar copyright complaints again, which can really put me in trouble if they turn out to be real.
The gallery is now only accessible to certain users, that's all I can say and I'm really sorry for things to turn out this way. Still, it's better than killing the gallery altogether.
And for those who have noticed the change of the default forum style to Yumekui, the reason for this is to prevent copyright claims by Nao Hirano or another random person like Nao. The header in Yumekui is no longer displayed on Ai-chin's official website and if they really want to get nasty about it, I can claim that the header is a fanart done by one of our members, which is legal for us to use. |

yukari wrote: I didn't [know] these images were copyrighted either..... Well, of course they are. They're magazine covers, CD booklet scans, they have to be copyrighted. Or else anyone can just say that it's theirs. Any image of any sort that is intended for public use, will have a copyright. It's just so people don't steal from each other. It's a good thing, but can also be a bad thing. In this case, it's biting us in the backside.

flyingcupcake wrote: So does this mean that until things are sorted out, we should refrain from using gallery pictures to make new graphics and such? Like eyn said, you can still so that. I mean, they can never know what you're doing on your computer by yourself. Unless you publish it, of course. But they shouldn't get mad at you for that.
I think it seems like someone who had too much time on their hands. I mean honestly, wouldn't they have attacked the downloads instead of the images?
Plus, without the gallery, my French project would have looked bare! I used a few of the images...I was telling about what music I like to listen to, so of course I needed an Ai pic!
Anyway,
I think you made a good decision, eyn, making the gallery accessible to "regulars" only. Hopefully, this thing will just dissipate and we can go back to our pleasant forum life. |

Ah I see, so that's what happened to the gallery. I only read the first page and then skimmed through the rest of the thread.
The only serious legal actions I ever seen on the net are C&D letters to fansub groups providing torrents for animes. And I've seen a fansub group, not abide by it and get sued (or so I've been told)
I've been a mod for various anime/anime scans online communities. But those online communities have limited access to gallery or are invite only forums. The only open gallery one was on a server owned by one of the admins.
I've heard of this act before, but from some of the posts in this tread, I'm not sure if the person putting out the charges is legit. But regardless if it's false or real, it's good that you guys are hiding the gallery for now. I mean if it was real, who knows how much more of a headache this would be if you ended up having to deal with a legal battle. Not worth it.
And trust me from experience, when a community grows larger, random un-friendly people will appear, or people whom are bored and want to cause mischief. Spam attacks and whatnot. It's annoying (namely for admins that have to deal with fixing everything). Most of the time they do their thing and eventually just go away with time. |

I don't remember how I got into the Ch-Ai gallery.
I had access to it like 2 weeks[ i think] ago.
Or have I been taken off the list or something...

^ You don't have access to it?
Did you try to go into it? It should ask you to log into it...
I got in there just fine a few days ago.
If you can't figure it out, ask eyn or Aprilis. about it... |

^ Haha, I had a similar problem at first, it's ok.
Glad you got it figured out.
I still can't figure out why they attacked the gallery images rather than all the...other downloads...
Not that I wish they had or anything.
I just find it strange is all. |

^ Remember that that section is hidden and only available for the Regulars.
But I wonder why they didn't attack other forums. |

That's true.
And Channel-Ai is even BEFORE her own official site, with her wikipedia page 1st. |

Well, I dunno.
And Celsius is right, it does come up pretty much right away. But I wouldn't have found it so easily otherwise. So it's good in a way, I suppose. |
