In 2009, every British citizen will be issued with an ID card containing all of their personal information right down to their blood type and fingerprints.

The UK is already the most-watched country in the world but they feel the need for more control.

There is 1 CCTV camera for every 14 people in this country.

Criminals are electronically tagged so that their movements can be traced 24 hours a day.

Oh, and we now have CCTV vehicles.

They can go anywhere and have complete surveillance over anything they choose.

It's all for our own safety of course.

Terrorists are everywhere.

Just like those communists a few years back... (¬_¬)

I was just wondering what you guys thought about all of this.

Is it Nineteen-Eighty-Four already?

Oh it's definitely Nineteen-Eighty-Four already. >_>
Most people are probably unaware of how much their personal information is put out there for many others/government to see. There are cameras everywhere, ID cards, tracking devices, x-rays, etc. UK is just one tiny step ahead of other places I guess.

hm....electronic ID cards are unnecessary. i think it'd be more of a financial burden to the government than something that would make you guys safer. and i know dave really really doesn't like to be constrained by such things.

I sorta agree with it. not that I really care about terrorists, but criminals make me pissed off.

As the new queen of the world, my first change is that all rapists/pedophiles etc. be castrated!

I'm not a criminal...

But I too will be under constant surveillance.

And that castration idea of yours will backfire when you start castrating people who later turn out to be innocent.

You realise that people have been wrongly convicted thousands of times before, right?

By the way, everyone will be issued with ID cards.

Not just foreigners.

And anyway...

I'm not a foreigner, and so it's not like the gaijin card thing in Japan at all.

This really is an invasion of privacy in my opinion.

They can stop us at anytime and ask us to present our ID cards.

I'll totally go all V for Vendetta on their bourgeois asses if this goes any further.

Ouch...Shocked

Edit

OMG!!!

They're now giving us the option to opt out of the ID scheme but if we do, then our passports will be cancelled and we won't be allowed to leave the country under any cirumstances!!!

And to think I was considering giving up on politics altogether...

I will do what I can to fight this... not that it'll make much of a difference.

I'm only 18 and I want to finish university before I leave the country...

I'm majoring in Japanese, so yes I do know the difficulties involved in emigrating there.

It'll be another 4 years before I can leave this place permanently.

And besides... I love Scotland.

I don't want to abandon it...

I mean, sure I want to live in other countries and stuff.

But it would be nice to have the option to come home whenever I feel like it.

Anyway, what you said about leaving the country isn't exactly a solution to the problem.

Are you suggesting that everyone should leave the country because of the Big Brother government?

I'll take revolution over cowardice any day.

That sounds like a terrible deal. Did they stop to consider that many of the criminals would use this to opt out of the system? Many criminals and terrorists probably don't have much of a need for leaving the country so in all fairness...giving this option is a bad idea. Of course regardless, I think they'd find a way around the system to it doesn't matter much.
And for dave I think this is a choice between giving up two freedoms and I am pretty sure you will just accept the stupid ID system. (If you move out of Scotland permanently...it doesn't affect you anyway!)

When reading this, partly i feel disappointed with the privacy invasion, but another big part is that they are still working on the smaller picture. I mean, so what if u can supervise ppl with technology, i still think (although i so wish i am wrong) there's always a way people can find the hole from the system. There's nothing perfect, and to rely on technology is even further so. The more advanced the technology will also bring more advanced virus and bugs. Rather than trying to find the terrorist by violating the innocents, why don't they just try to find a way to make peace?

To me it's just like i feel sleepy everyday, so i try to sleep at every tiny bit of time i have from work or school. If i continue doing this, i will just always keep feeling sleepy and fall asleep during daytime. But if i know the root of the problem is because i didn't plan my timetable nicely and sleep irregularly, i can just redo my time management and have more night time to sleep regularly. Temporary solution is not the best solution. Or that's what i think.

Alas, the current world situation is beyond simple words and action can be solved. But still, i believe if everyone try to do every little thing that they can, we can make a difference. So dave, don't say that it won't make any difference, it will. As long as there's a will, there's a result. It's just that human being are such weakling they think one can do nothing and therefore nothing is done. But ppl forget inspiration doesn't come in a big group of ppl.

(PS: Cowardice is not always a bad thing, and revolution can be silly if without planning. The best is perhaps when ppl know when to retract and when to attack. I will go for revolution nonetheless, with proper planning of course, i don't fight hopeless war, lol!)
