I think he's cool with a really unique voice. There's some pvs on youtube if you want to see. Just type in Ken Hirai. I would recommend his singles,

Life is...
Hitomi wo Tojite
Elegy
and Pop Star.

You'll laugh at the Pop Star pv. It's done very well, and it actually is a catchy tune.

Kira Kira no Pop Star!!! I did laugh at that PV because it was just awesome. And I am pretty sure quite a few people have heard of Ken Hirai because he is quite a big name. (I'm surprised I don't see a thread for him yet) I did like Pop Star but I haven't taken much effort to learn his music beyond that. (I also listened to Elegy, but only because someone made me... Shifty )

I've listened to his songs not so long ago and they are very impressive. His voice is...oooh...smooth and sexy! XD

And there's something about him which seems mysterious (I've searched for his biography in wikipedia). His non-traditional Japanese look and 183-centimetres height (if i'm not mistaken)! And I've read that he announced somewhere that he's 100% Japanese.

I love 'Ookina Furui Dokei' most. It's such a relieved song.

Has anyone here not heard of Ken Hirai? He's on Oricon all the time. Very well known.

Not into that stuff though, personally. I friggin *hate* that song "Pop Star". It got rammed down my ears everywhere I went throughout my year in Japan. All my students loved it too. Yuck.

My thoughts precisely. Giggle

Naturally I've heard of him too and have listened to a quite a bit of his discography. Not too long ago I watched one of his tours on TV, and I've come to the conclusion that I simply cannot get into him. Shifty His music is very charming indeed, but it's his passive voice that irks me somewhat. The soft vocals sound really well in ballads but other than that it's just not to my tastes.
