Western pop music scene is just worthless in my opinion, the lyrics are either dirty or stupid. I was listening to Avril's "Girlfriend" and all I can say is "what a stupid song". (sorry Avril's fans) Yes, the melody is catchy alright, but the lyrics is just so shallow and stupid and the PV promotes nothing other than "I'm punk, I spit at reporters and I'm awesome, you're geek, you wear specs and have red hair and you're a loser". I don't think this is the right way of thinking for children nowadays, seeing so many teens are listening to her songs. Because of these stupid "idols" those teens that don't have a mind of their own will start to think "I need to act cool, wild and be punk. Being obedient and kind is something losers do". All I can say is shallow idols produce shallow followers, and when these shallow idols are gaining more influence then we need to start worrying about what's happening to the society nowadays.

Hm.. from my interpretation she wasn't attacking geeks. I think she was more of attacking the prep/goodie-two-shoes stereotype. Otherwise known as daddy's girl or princess. The redhead had this prissy attitude and it's probable that the specs were there to symbolise how "good" she is. The Japanese equivalent would be the Cam Cam girls.

These girls typically adopt this angelic/helpless image to latch herself on a guy, while in reality she's just a prude. The idea is to find a rich and handsome guy so he can support her financially and become a priviledged stay-at-home mom. Nonetheless, yeah the idea of taking someone else's boyfriend was quite shallow and dumb. If a guy likes you, why is he with another girl? Her latest album was a bit too shallow while trying to look "different".

@eyn: You're right, I have listened to a few songs that my friends listen to, some are okay, some are abit vulgar. Although I'm the only one who listens to Japanese music in my class, I will not change. Some people say my taste of music is "not cool" and has no swear words and stuff. But they can't change me, I like what I want to like.

I don't look at perverted movies, swear alot, bludge in school, have fights in school or act rude in class to get attention, but that doesn't prove I'm uncool. Wink

Well personally I feel a few expletives thrown here and there are okay - but those rap songs which need complete censuration are too obnoxious to the point that they become boring. American music is not as good as it was before with these tacky oversexed artists who rarely have any musical talent.

I guess you have your own personal style, but nothing wrong with breaking the rules here and there Wink (I'm not speaking about extreme rule-breakings) I've learnt to walk on my own rules and yeah sometimes it's fun Laughing

Well, I dont necessarily "pity" children these days...though I am still a child myself haha Im only 16 (almost 17) but...I do find that the influences in the media, tend to make younger children less "pure" as some would say. I see kids in elementary school ; smoking, wearing trashy clothing, and using a foul tongue. Sometimes I really wish that the media (like music videos and magazines) were less shallow and stereotypical.

I really respect the women in this world whom embrace their curves and looks, take Queen Latifa for example, shes a gorgeous woman, but she isnt a size 2, and that is what makes her so beautiful. Her personality is what shines through.

Some stars these days, I even wonder why they are famous in the first place. Some stars may be pretty, but have absalutely no talent whatsoever and they strut their stuff as if theyre the most important person on the planet cuz they can seem to get by on their looks.

I am one of those people that are sensitive to the fact of weight. All my life I have been the overweight girl...I am 5' tall..and In grade 9 I weighed almost 200 pounds. I didnt like myself...so I had decided to lose some weight the healthy way and try to get to a weight that I was comfortable with. Right now, I am in grade 11, still 5' tall (thats not gunna change cuz of my genes Laughing ) and I weight about 160 pounds. Yes I am still on the curvy side, but I like it. My boyfriend loves me for "me" not how I look. He is the one person on this planet that has not teased of judged me because of how I look. He is also the one person on this planet whom can make me the happiest woman alive. I love him so much.

The reason why I tell u all that story is because, I did not get drowned in the media of today. I grew up in the 90's yes, but by the time all of this stereotypical junk in the media really started to get bad, I was 10 and I could have still been influenced by it but I chose not to and I am glad I didnt. It has made me who I am, and has made me the one that Tristan (my bf) has fallen in love with. He fell in love with my personality, and I fell in love with his...and thats what truly counts in my eyes
