i dont think avex over-photoshopped ai-chin's face. it's very possible she slimmed down too...looking at the chu-lip pv. she don't look bad in the pic, so i have no problem whatsoever with it.
there are alot of ayumi's advertisements in my country's train stations. they are the same as what pon pon posted in the first post, only that she is looking in front. honestly, if her eyes isnt photoshopped to look bigger, i think she looks very scary. everytime i pass by one of her advertisements i get a little freaked out cos she stares at u with her "abnormally" big eyes. my friend said she look like an alien |

I'm not too fond of the look either but probably avex's marketing strategy was to focus on her eyes. Personally I wish they just would've brought Leslie Kee and he'd have made some stunning covers like Secret/Rainbow/I Am... However lately avex is winning the award of the most terrible BEST covers (I think Ai's cover is beyond terrible if it is the red signature thing). Koda's third best wasn't impressive either. In any way the alien joke is getting kinda old... I don't see the big deal about the large eyes but then I'm not Asian. Many western people have huge eyes. |

Yes, sometimes I highly despise avex trax for their over-zealous Photoshopping. Sony Music (Mika Nakashima's label) doesn't Photoshop as much...I like how they like to showcase the artist's talents first, and looks second. I love Ayu but Sweet Jesus! I would hate to wake up at 3AM, roll over and look right at one of her A BEST 2 posters. Her eyes are already ginormous, so I don't see the need to Photoshop them to make them almost half the size of her face. It only fuels the flames that are the nasty "Ayu = Plastic!" rumours.
As for Ai...I was a little taken aback at the CHU-LIP covers. I like the blonde hair but I first I thought she got punched due to her pouty-her lips look. She's wearing a lot of gloss, I realize, but I think someone got a little happy with the Dodge tool and ran it all along her lips. It still looks like her but she just seemed very unnatural on that cover whereas in something like "Renai Shashin" she looks cute and um...human. |

haha!
that is quite interesting!!
she is a bit skinny the photo in chu-lip compare with the one in Ai am Best.
actually all the photo in poster or in magazine had been 'photoshopped'. if you really want to see her 'real' face, watch the live show. she is a bit different from those two photo. i dun know where is the different, but there is......^^"
anyway, she looks pretty in both photo..^^.. |

Everything in the public eye seems to be Photoshopped these days.
A lot of the time they look better for it but there's really no point. If you like an artist less because they don't look as good Photoshopped then where is the devition??? It reminds me of how they used to always Photoshop Yossi's "beauty spots" They don't seem to do it as much now she's generally hotter anyway. |

I, like you guys, don't see much wrong with Photoshopping.
..THough I still have doubt that Ai's CHU-LIP photo was photoshopped. What can I say? Ai just have a monotone face. Most of the time, her face expression is like that....So who knows if it's photoshopped or not.. |

I'm pretty sure their aim is to make the artist look better but I also believe they do it to change the image of the artist to fit the theme of a release more. The photoshoots provided are the representation of a single or album and should reflect that theme as much as possible to induce people to buy it. It's a piece of art in itself. These guys are professionals and are providing a pretty good job imo. Every artist's photshoots get tweaked a little here and there unless the artist is on a low budget. I'd rather see photoshop than plastic surgery, but that's just me.
Personally for me as long as they keep the identity of the artist I'm pretty fine with it. Ai-chin performing CHU-LIP on tv is still recognisable from the cover art. I mean, sure natural Ai on Renai' Shashin (though still photoshopped) was gorgeous but if we had all the singers with the same kind of covers people would get fed up fast enough and start complain how avex is being cheap. |

Wow all I can say is that was a pretty creative idea to match them up, pon pon!
Even though I don't wanna side with Ai, I heard that for pop male artists, sometimes they even photoshop them muscles. |

| I don't think that Ai's photoshoots have been heavily photoshop. Make-up, hair colorings, camera angles and lightning effects can do wonders to a photo. Same thing goes to Ayu. |

I agree, usually lightning effects play a big role in photoshooting~ |

interesting! I see a difference in that GIF file .... I hate the CHU-LIP pictures .... they make poor Ai look like a hooker She looks SO SO cute without all that make-up slapped all over her face The AyuEyes discussion is REALLY interesting .... Ayumi has big eyes - fact. But the A BEST 2 covers just look abnormal But, as you explained, I could see how the flase eyelashed created this effect. |

| You should know that in the entertainment industry, it is a faux pas NOT to photoshop the pictures. What's the big deal? *shrugs* |

the big deal is the extreme way it seems to be done in japan.
i think it is safe to say the picture of every female model on the front cover of every magazine today is touched up in some way.
but when there is a 15-20% variation in the size and shape of the face, based on an alignment of facial features, this goes way beyond any notion of "enhancement". then you have a different face. the irony is for all their efforts, avex are not making any improvements with what they are doing. so you have to wonder what the point is. but perhaps others disagree with me here. does anyone think the CHU-LIP or the latest promo picture is an improvement on how Ai looks naturally? |
