Hmm, this sounds interesting...I'll download this and listen to them and tell you what I think. (I generally like remixes, anyways)
By the way, are those programs you mentioned Freeware?
Ok, I finished downloading it! I'm almost done listening to "tears" and I kinda like it. It's definitely different from the original, that's for sure. I like it personally, but for those who are big fans of the original...
Ok, Planetarium is starting now. Anyways, it seems like you've done good work so far. So yeah, are those programs free? |

FL studio demo is considered freeware because u can make loops and songs with it but you can't save the sequence file. Only the full version allows you to. As for Acid pro, the demo allows up to 10 layers of sound files only i think. But the demos are good enough to create good mixes.

http://www.acidplanet.com/tools/?p=acid&T=1997 Acid Xpress is the freeware version.
Get them down and start making music! heh |

heh! thanks everybody for your compliments. I think it would be good if I had some criticism too. maybe some suggestions too? =D I'm glad to hear that there actually are people who mess around with fruityloops like me. It's really a great program that has given me a great music experience.

1. listen - to different genres of music to gain more ideas and knowledge (don't just listen to genres that you like)
2. experiment - with different sound mixing, music sequencer programs. mess around with the program functions and you'll learn. (help files in programs do help too)
3. imitate - before you can make good mixes, try imitating the styles of other professional DJs, musicians etc. By imitating somebody's music style, you will learn various methods to make a good track. After a while, you'll find your own style and sounding.
4. Read - gather lots of knowledge on music, mixing, genres etc. from websites, magazines etc. eg.wikipedia , computer music mag, eq mag, future music mag.
Ya, basically that's all the tips I can give for now. I'm also a newbie in this.. =D i wish u a pleasant music making experience. let me hear your mixes too, when ur done with it. |

Ah thanks for the advice. I mean I've been making making my own music for quite a long time but never attempted to do remixes, like what's the best way to extract the vocals? it sounds like you rolled off the bass from the songs but I'm not sure heh, do you simply mix your stuff on top of the tracks? If only we could have access to the vocal tracks |

ah i see! Apologies, I've read ur msg wrongly.
Well, i didn't extract the vocals. You're right about the bass thing. I merely filtered out the bass freqs and some higher freqs. Then, i layer it with a heavy track to mask away the original drum grooves and bass. If avex can give me their raw vocal track, I'll be able to do a proper remix with it haha.. That explains why all the remixes still have a trace of the original ones.
There is also a way to extract vocals from a track but it's kinda tedious. You'll need to have a copy of the original song with vocals and one without vocals. Then, just invert the phase of the one without vocals and layer it over the one with vocals. When phase cancellation happens, you will be left with just the vocal track. However, the vocal track should sound really bad because of this process. |

Thanks for the links! I'll probably d/l and work with them when I have more time, since they're trials. I start school tomorrow.
Wow, that vocal thing sounds...tricky...
But yeah, I don't think avex would give you the vocal tracks. So you could either do that, or just stick with what you are doing, and what you are doing sounds just fine.
Good luck to you too, bankai! |
