Yes, I wrote both titles for clarification.
At the time, I posted the breaking news in the body of the thread.
This release is not the same as her previous DVD releases (unlimited Standard 1-disc & Special 2-disc). The Official Site calls the two versions "初回受注限定生産盤(DVD2枚組・豪華デジパック仕様)" and "通常盤(DVD1枚)" which translates to 'First-Time-Ordered Limited Edition Pressing (2 DVD Set - Gorgeous Digipak Format)' and 'Normal/Standard Pressing (1 DVD),' respectively.

So is there not gonna be any regular special ed. in this release? Laughing

What 'more' were you expecting of the release, vaah? Confused

Well, Being much more expensive than regular ed., I expect bonus from limited press aside from these features:
• Disc 1: Live Concert (as above)
• Disc 2: "Special Movie Disc" featuring 'MC Collection,' backstage video, etc.
• Photobook (40 pages)
• Digipak Case

I never bought her previous first limited press releases, were they always this expensive?

It doesn't seem likely, no.

Well, *obviously* if you were expecting "more," it'd be "more" than what is being released. Blank stare
I was asking because, as far as releases go, there already seems to be a lot going on.
Also, I was wondering whether you had any particular bonus in mind. Like a poster? Or a T-shirt?

As far as the price, yes, it is pretty ridiculous. No Laughing
Just goes to show how much power avex has over us little fans. Shifty

As always, price goes up as an artist becomes more popular, well-established, well-known, etc.
'Special' or 'Deluxe' versions are always more expensive, while any kind of 'Limited Edition' will be *even more* expensive.
In the first case, you're getting more, so you must pay more. In the case of limited time/supply, you are paying more for exclusivity.
Double Whammy. Laughing

For Comparison:
    JAM PUNCH Tour DVD:
    Standard: ¥2,500
    Special: ¥3,500

    LOVE COOK Tour DVD:
    ¥3,500
    [Only one version released.]

    愛 am BEST!! Tour DVD:
    Standard: ¥2,990
    Special: ¥3,990

    LOVE PiECE Tour DVD:
    Standard: ¥3,990
    Special & Limited: ¥5,990
Shocked

Basically, her DVD prices have been steadily climbing.
The price difference between versions is generally ¥1,000. So I guess avex figures that for the new DVD, you're paying a baseline of ¥3,990, then ¥1,000 more for 'Special' (2nd DVD), and another ¥1,000 more for 'Limited' (Digipak & Photobook).
Also, later, this 'Standard' will become the 'Only' version, so, like LOVE COOK Tour, it is selling at the higher end price.
We've never before had to pay extra for a First Press bonus photobook or Digipak. I think by lumping it all under the title of 'Limited Edition' they feel obligated/entitled to charge more. No Mad

Whew!
Does that make sense?
It sucks and I agree with others in that avex is a dirty, money-grubbing machine. But, alas, I still love Ai and will sadly will continue to fall victim to their evil traps. No Crying

yeah all you said does make sense & I agree. Thanks for the long explanation, it must be tiring to deal with me Giggle.

yep, I sorta expected some bonuses like poster, T-shirt, etc ( what you mentioned) for limited press version. Then again special and special~first limited press should be different. I mean like what you mention when we buy special ver.(not the first press special) we get photo book and 2nd disc. That said, naturally first press limited should have something more to offer. Smile Otherwise imo it doesn't justify the price tag.

what's so special about digipak? I feel it's plain and perhaps a way to cut the production cost. I prefer jewel case.
Why did you exlude love is born in the comparison? Smile

Yes! Whining is our only outlet at this point. Laughing

I actually like Digipaks, but I know they're not everyone's favorite...
I love any kind of special packaging, like the First Press cases for the LOVE PiECE album.
Yet nothing, in my opinion, has been better than the First Press sparkly night-sky CD case for Planetarium. Love

I didn't include the two LOVE is BORN concert DVDs as I felt it was clearer to limit the comparison to her Tour DVDs. It also gets muddier since the 4th Anniv. was released in 3 DVD formats, bringing in the HD pricing issues... No
Here you go, since you asked:
LOVE is BORN ~3rd Anniv. DVD:
    ¥2,990
    [Only one version released.]

LOVE is BORN ~4th Anniv. DVD:
    DVD: ¥2,990
    Blu-ray Disc:¥6,090
    HD DVD:¥6,090

---

On another subject... Tongue Giggle
While I was poking about for past & current info I came across a bit of unfortunate news (or rather, an unfortunate correction...).
Checking back at the DVD's mu-mo shop page, I saw this:
mu-mo wrote:
※当商品にメガネは同梱されません。また、3D映像は2Dでの収録となります。

It says (opposite of what Google's Translation gave pon pon) that 3-D glasses will *not* be included and the 3-D parts will be shown in 2-D.

Shocked Crying Mad

I don't know if they changed their minds or something. I never looked at the original mu-mo page, but I just tried another Google translation and it still gives the wrong reading. No
It appears they are all sold out of the Special/Limited Edition, but I doubt the existence/absence of 3-D would differ between versions, especially with no other positive mention anywhere.

*sigh*

Don't you think digipak is easier to get dirty? Hence it's much more high maintenance, if you wanna keep your collection in its best condition.

I wonder if Blu-ray version and DVD version would make any difference in picture quality wise. I suppose I'll buy the blu-ray version when it's become mainstream i.e. cheaper. Laughing

I'm pretty meticulous when it comes to my collections, so it's never been an issue for me. I have more concerns with standard jewel cases getting cracks and smashed corners... No
I like the extra/extended artwork on the Digipaks and the way they fold out.
Though I wish they'd use a built-in pocket for liner notes etc. instead of the open ended sleeve...
Regular DVD cases are so boring I welcome the change.

Truly, I don't blame all of it on the companies that sell the product to us...
Think of this as a world economic issue...it costs more to produce plastics because of rising oil prices, in order to have a increased / stable profit (so they can make their stockholders happy), the company has no choice but to raise the prices on the product...so it's literally quite fair...in that standpoint...

HMV tells me mine has been Despatched and is now in transit as well. Boogie i was preparing myself for a wait of at least 14-28 days because i bundled my purchase with this, which they said is sourced from South America. so they must have had some in stock already.

i am a bit surprised HMV didnt slug me for more postage, because my shipment contains (at least) 5 actual discs, a photobook and a digipak case.

I went to Shibuya HMV tonight, worried her DVD might sell as fast as her concert tickets, but lucky they had a few copies in stock..

This is an amazing DVD from Ai Otsuka. Ai-chin is so cute in her many costumes which seem to match the style of the music. However I think she has really matured with the presentation of her tracks, very original and fresh production. I love it, and you will too. Boogie
