yeah both of the movies are japanese.
I've seen the old zatoichi ~blind swordsman~ but I haven't seen the new movie that came out. I thought the old ones were the best. |

He's a blinds swordsman. Well atleast in the series. When they created the character it was in the time where they had a bunch of disabled samurais. Like you might have heard of the one armed swordsman, or the armless kung-fu master. Iunno why, but i guess they were into disabled people during that time But for some reason blindswordsmans kept going. It's pretty good acctually. |

CETMA if u liked the old series u defineatly should see the new movie. It has something new but still classic too. The story is different except the character of Zatoichi the blind swordsman. Another positive side is the music. Amazing |

oh ive seen it. Its the only Zatoichi movie that ive watched (so far).
Its pretty good.
the blood in the movie sucks though, its computer generated. And the way the movie incorporates the sound of what the people in the movie are doing to the background music (e.g. the sound of the farmers plowing is synchronized to the beat of the background music), i found it quite irritating at first.
oh and the dancing in the end just didnt do it for me. Especially the part where the "sisters" are turned to their young self in the middle of the dance. I know its only symbolic and i know what it means (i think), but it looks so corny.
anyway those are the things that i didn't really like about the movie. Overall its a great movie, i don't want to spoil the good parts for those who haven't seen it yet. Just watch it. |

| I've seen it! It's pretty good. But sometimes just a bit too gruesome!! (Is that how you spell it?) Anyways, you guys should watch this video. It's interesting. And yeah, the sword fighting and such is pretty good! |

| Takeshi Kitano is one of my favorite actors/directors. And I just have to say that the movie was fantastic. I agree with the user who said that the blood didn't look good (WAY to obviously CG), but I thought the music thing was really interesting. Overall, fantastic film. |

there are some parts of the movies i thought it was really unnecessary...like the one where where he walks along the field past a group of people in the early part of the movie. i thought there was going to be action, but obviously there wasnt. for 1 minute or so, the scene was showing zatoichi walking and the farmers plowing the fields in the foreground~~lame but overall it's still a good movie with really exciting action. |

I grew up watching the original movies and I really loved what Kitano did with the remake. He retained much of the orig feel, while modernizing the take enough to engage newer younger audiences.
The fake quality of the CG blood was intentional. First, as an homage to the early rudimentary special effects, and second, to allow people to disconnect from the gore happening onscreen and be able to see past it and look at the fights in a more formal [as in, form, not the opposite of casual ] way--as dances, if you will. Or looking at the trajectories of the "blood" itself... This is not the best way of saying it--I'm sure you can find an explaination in the director's own words somewhere online...
The dancing at the end was also a nod to the older movies (not the Zatoichis, but other old Japanese films--kinda the equivalent to American 30s/40s/50s grand musicals...) where everyone breaks out in song at the end--like a goodbye, encore ending for the audience... Kitano had the ending choreographed to include traditional Japanese dance forms and Kabuki elements as well as references to modern tap (like the recent show, Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk).
I really liked all that he did with the new movie, especially the addition of humor throught, but I can see how if the viewer is unfamiliar with his jumping-off points, they really seem to come out of no-where...
Hope this helps some... |
